It's an informal and practical approach to conversational Spanish for English speakers who have no knowledge of Spanish but need to learn some basics for work in social services. Family counselors, members of the clergy, welfare and public benefits workers of all kinds, and just ordinary neighbors who start learning Spanish with help from this book will pick up frequently used phrases and enough of the language to ask questions, offer advice, and understand the replies from their Spanish-speaking clients and friends.

I was looking for a book or audio series that would help me to prepare for and minimize the language barrier in traveling to a spanish-speaking country. In the process of studying Spanish, I am finding that this book has been oh-so helpful in communicating with neighbors and friends through work and our neighborhood. This book is particularly designed for educators, counselors, health care providers, folks in ministry, social workers, or public servants who interact frequently with spanish-speakers.
