Adoption: The Continuing Debate

Rate this book
When the author's previous book Adoption and the Care of Children was published it ignited a fierce debate on the desirability of adoption and the reasons for its decline. The response from politicians, child care professionals and the media was so great that it was decided to invite contributions to a sequel. This volume is the result. It begins with a summary of the original book, which is followed by commentaries from professionals writing from differing perspectives.

One of the things I marvel about is the ability of some authors to essentially write the same thing over and over in different forms depending on the subject.

This author is one such. She seems to have a particular viewpoint that of an evangelical Christian right winger with a mission to restore a sort of state of nature as described in her particular version of the bible.

Adoption has changed radically over the years and Social changes have been reflected in changes in the policy..
The have been tectonic changes in society too and since 1980 in particular lower income individuals and their families have seen decreases in their non work time as parents have been forced to work longer to make ends meet.

The economic changes have not bee voted on by individuals and it is disingenuous to blame family issues on individual choices yet the author seems to take gleeful pleasure in the punishment of parents for all intent and purposes.
