About the author

Andrew Hughes is the author of SWEETHEARTS OF THE GREAT MIGRATION (BookThug, 2008), RURAL RADIO (w/ Whit Griffin, Scantily Clad, 2009.) His work has appeared in Octopus, Cannibal, Spell, Can We Have Our Ball Back, Forklift, Ohio, among others. A new chapbook is forthcoming from BookThug. He is the editor of TIGHT. His work with the composer Florian Maier made its Tanglewood Music Center debut in the summer of 2002. Since then their collaborations have appeared at numerous music festivals throughout Europe.

بخشی از جذابیت کتاب، به خاظر شخصیت و زندگی پر شور و شیدایی ون گوگ بود. نویسندگان نیز توانسته بودند تصویری روشن از شرایط اجتماعی و هنرمندان مؤثر بر کار ون گوگ ارائه کنند.

این که ون گوگ بارها برای کشیش شدن تلاش کرده و رد شده بود، یا این که در جنبش های کارگری نقش آفرینی می کرده است، از دید من بسیار جالب بود. از سوی دیگر، برخی ابهام هایم درباره رابطه او با گوگن بر طرف شد. گمان می کردم گوگن با بی مهری او را تنها گذاشته، اما این کتاب نشان داد که گوگن تلاش خود را کرد تا به دوستش کمک کند و تأثیری فوق العاده بر هنر ون گوگ داشته است.
