Silent Hope is about living a rewarding spiritual life in an endless desert -- and the hope that makes it possible. It is for those who choose spiritual risk rather than security, when we surrender to a hunger for God that demands of us nothing less than raw faith and persistent hope, in the midst of God's silence. It is a journey that the author invites us to take in the company of great Christian, Jewish and Islamic mystics including Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Abraham Heschel, Augustine, Julian of Norwich, and Kwaja Abdullah Ansari. In fifty meditations and prayers, rooted in the wisdom of these great mystics, contemporary spiritual seekers are given an opportunity to better and more deeply understand our own struggle with the silence of God.
This book of daily meditations was a gift from Charley years ago. This is the first time I read / prayed it through to the end. My favorite chapters and prayers were the ones based upon the writings of Julian of Norwich [14th c.] and St. Augustine [4th c.]
This another in the series of books about the spiritual journey by John Kirvan. Over the years, I've read it many times. This book highlights the lives of: Julian of Norwich, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Augustine of Hippo, Dorothy Day, and Meister Eckhart to name a few. These "great ones" struggled with the silence of God, but they were never out of Hope. We, too, are accepted by God just as we are in His/Her Silence.
