OUR STORY
A beat-up old car, a few dollars in the pocket and a sense of adventure. In 1972 that’s all Tony and Maureen Wheeler needed for the trip of a lifetime – across Europe and Asia overland to Australia. It took several months, and at the end – broke but inspired – they sat at their kitchen table writing and stapling together their first travel guide, Across Asia on the Cheap. Within a week they’d sold 1500 copies and Lonely Planet was born. One hundred million guidebooks later, Lonely Planet is the world’s leading travel guide publisher with content to almost every destination on the planet.

Great information - love the fact that there's hot links to various websites as well as Google map locations. I love DK Eye Witness guides for the detailed infographics and this is not that, but still has solid up to date restaurant and activity listings.

Spent a couple of extra nights in Barcelona since it was the starting location for the Mediterranean cruise I went on. Used Rick Steves's Mediterranean Ports book to plan most of my vacation. But since we were gonna have more sightseeing time in Barcelona, a friend lent me this book. It was a great supplement since it went into more detail about Barcelona since that was the book's main focus. There were lots of pictures which made it attractive to read. I also really liked the way everything was ordered by neighborhoods since that's how I like to plan my days so I'm not running back and forth. Unfortunately I wound up basically having only one real full day of sightseeing so I didn't take as much advantage of this book as I would've liked. (The first night we got arrived in the evening and were tired from the plane ride, and after the second night we had to prep for checking out of the hotel and getting to the cruise ship.) I really enjoyed being in Barcelona though, and wouldn't mind going back again. I'd recommend this book to future travelers too, it's very well organized and covers a lot.
