Very impressive. Engelhardt displays a razor sharp analytic mind here. Many scholars tackling the subject of visual languages have a tendency to look away from the messiness of the visuals that are their objects of study. Engelhardt instead painstakingly untangles the cobwebs of elements that make up the images he analyzes. There’s great clarity to both his thought and his writing, making for a quick, informative and highly pleasurable read.
