A massive interstellar war is raging, led by a vicious alien race known as the Maedrom. Humanity has become allied with many other alien races, all of which are trying to survive in the middle of this battle. Gabriel Nagra is a human engineer, assigned to develop a defense for the Maedrom's deadliest weapon. Assisting him is Jhuun, a male Eunnoian to whom Gabriel grows close…perhaps even a little too close.
The war has already led to heartbreak and the tragic loss of a lover for Gabriel. In addition, he worries about embracing physical intimacy with an alien. In the middle of destruction and uncertainty, will Gabriel let go of his doubts and fears for a chance at happiness with Jhuun, or will he risk facing the future alone yet again?
Lazuli Jones is an LGBTQIA+ romance and women's erotica author as well as a massive geek. They enjoy bad puns, 80's pop culture references, and science-fiction. Their latest novel, BETTER LATE, is now available from Clarian Press.
Their first novel, ABYSSAL ZONE (eXtasy Books) is all about the exploration of human/alien sexuality, with some spaceships and lasers to serve as a backdrop.
If you enjoy blending sexiness with geek culture, they recommend you check out STARSTRUCK, which can be found in BEST WOMEN'S EROTICA OF THE YEAR, VOLUME I (Cleis Press).
Their short stories have appeared in numerous collections including TOY BOX, THEY DO, MYTHOLOGICALLY TORQUED, NASTY: FETISH FIGHTS BACK, and THE BIG BOOK OF SUBMISSION, VOLUME II.
No stranger to the stage, Lazuli is also a locally-produced playwright, blending the glitter of live theatre with erotica. They once wrote a play parodying classic Harlequin romance novels, which was really just an excuse to say the words "milky bosoms" and "turgid rubies" over and over.
For the hell of it i gave 5stars. This is one of those books you wish it was longer but felt just right with its length. sooo love the idea room comment, big smile with that one. Jhuun was interesting to picture, I keep thinking of the aquatic blue dude in hell boy movie with groin area like a merman. I love the book because it has what i like; space, mixed species loving and men
For five years, an interstellar war led by the unstoppable Maedrom has devastated the allied races. Human engineer, Gabriel Nagra lost his lover to a Maedrom attach. To cope Gabriel has thrown himself into his work deconstructing and finding a defense from the weapon Maedrom has been using to dominate the war. When Gabriel’s station is attached, he barely makes the evacuation along with one of the captured Maedrom weapon. It is here that he meets fellow engineer Eunnoian, Jhuun. Over the weeks Gabriel finds himself pulled towards Jhuun. He knows that he cannot get attached to another or risk losing them to Maedrom again. Regardless, he still thinks about Jhuun. He had never heard of relationships between Humans and Eunnoians. Maybe it just wasn’t. In the end, will Gabriel allow his inner demons to dictate his actions? Will he walk away from the possibility of great love?
This was so well written. Gabriel with his battered heart, guilt and determination to find an answer to the Maedrom weapon. His fear of falling in love with Jhuun. The choices he made twisted my heart. I loved Jhuun and his gentleness and patience. But I have to say I had to laugh when Gabriel rented Eunnoian porn to see if there was possible compatibility. When he was watching, head tilted to the side wondering if there was anything “that he could work with” made me crack up. Alien Porn. *cackling* I would have never thought.
This is the first book by this author that I have read. I look forward to more.
The story was sweet and good. The plot developed slowly and circled around Gabriel and Jhuun and their new found attraction. I liked this couple. Gabriel emotions were understandable. It was a good story.
I liked this book more for the science fiction aspect than the romance. There was a good storyline going on around the warring alien races and a massive weapon that couldn't be stopped. It had a little bit of a Star Wars Death Star feel to it, just not on a planetary scale.
The romance in the book wasn't a main theme in my opinion. It was there, but the battle and trying to stop the attacking aliens was the main theme. I didn't mind this at all. I don't need super romantic books all the time. I chose this book for its science fiction and enjoyed it for that. The only thing I wish now is that it was part of a series and had more to read. I was having fun hearing about different alien species.
