Sunny McDonald and her vampire boyfriend, Magnus, are on the run-accused of treason and wanted alive...or undead. And her twin is the slayer sent to track them down. Rayne would do anything to save her twin sister, Sunny, from the Vampire Consortium dictator who wants her dead. Instead, she's been commissioned by Slayer Inc. to find Sunny and Magnus and deliver them to the Consortium...which Rayne knows means certain death. She also knows that if she and her boyfriend, Jareth, disobey orders, they are signing not only their own death warrants, but also those of every vampire in the Blood Coven.

As a rival slayer with a personal vendetta moves in, Rayne and Jareth must do something to stop her. So they embark on their most dangerous journey yet, deep beneath the streets of New York City and through the Gates of the Underworld. But when a greedy god demands the ultimate sacrifice, will Rayne be forced to choose between her sister...and the vampire she loves?

Soul Bound by Mari Mancusi
Blood Coven Vampire series #7. YA paranormal vampire romance. Closed door. Series alternates POV between the twin sisters. This is Rayne’s book.
Rayne McDonald is both vampire and vampire slayer and she’s been tasked with tracking down her sister and her boyfriend and presenting them to the Consortium for judgement. Rayne, with the help of Jareth agree to find them, but only to prevent them from being killed by some other slayer. A trip to the Underworld through the New York subway system is the last thing Rayne wants to do, but she’ll do anything to save her sister.

From the unused and hidden New York subway system to the Underworld, Rayne is desperate to save her sister. She innovated in getting across the river, because who has exact change! Seeing her dad is a bonus but she’s there to get Sunny.
I’ve got to admit, while the girls each has their own agenda and lives, they do protect each other. And will do whatever they need to, including sacrifice.
This story was unexpectedly deeper than they have been for that reason. Still rather campy, of course. And the ending of this one was unexpected due to some tricky gods. Pretty much a cliffhanger. One more in the series and I’ll be reading it soon.

"Soul Bound" is the seventh book in "The Blood Coven Vampire" series by Mari Mancusi. This is definitely my favorite book in the series. There were so many things happening, both bad and good, but the story was so well written. Mari has done such a fabulous job with this series, and I just can't get enough of it. Rayne is tasked with a horrible job, but the way she executed the job was definitely Rayne style. My favorite scene was when Rayne told Jareth she was taking him somewhere to eat. Mari definitely knows how to get my emotions going. The ending has me wanting to start the next book soon.

Hell yeah, mythology! I love this book more than the previous stories in the series. Rayne's stupidity had made this possible, and I thank her for that because otherwise, we won't be able to meet Charon, Hades, Persephone and even Hercules! The next book, which is the last one on the series is about travelling back in time, and I can't wait to read yet another favourite genre of mine, Time Travel!

If one just cursorily glanced at one of Mari’s Blood Coven books they would probably think it another insipid human/vampire love story containing characters with horrible names, filled to the brim with clichés and has ultimately run on far longer than what it should have. They would probably think the plots absolutely ridiculous, the characters overtly emo and the books trying far too hard for their own good.

Those people, I’d say, couldn’t read their way out of a paper bag.

No, Mari’s Blood Coven series isn’t something more than what’s already out there. It isn’t better than all of its like-minded brethren. It’s a SATIRE. This series is ripping into the over-bloated anus of its vampire siblings that, unlike it, take themselves far too seriously. Mari has taken every popular element in YA vampire fiction (and beyond) and blown it so far out of control that it is incredibly ridiculous. You know it, she knows it, the characters know it. And that’s why it’s so incredibly phenomenal. It rips on itself from the names of the characters (Sunny and Rayne, really?) to the overtly emo, safe and PC vampires to the polar opposite siblings and so much more. It’s all there, exaggerated to the extreme and it makes this series all the better.

SOUL BOUND, book number seven in the Blood Coven vampires series, takes Sunny and Rayne on another cross-country trip because Sunny and her vampire boyfriend Magnus had to flee. Unfortunately for Rayne, she’s been contracted by Slayer, Inc. to lock down her sister and boyfriend-in-law and bring them in for a Big Bad hell-bent on world domination. Throw in massive amounts of emo-angsting from Depeche Mode wannabe, Jareth, and Rayne’s ultimate battle between side one and side two of the same cassette and you’re bound to get rocketed from one side of the book to the other.

Mari’s writing, from her too-cool-for-school enormously far-reaching lingo to her expertly placed references to old school pop culture meant to play into minds older than today’s teens (which further confirms my belief that these books are meant for an older, more nostalgic crowd that harkens to a love of all things Buffy and REAL vampires like The Lost Boys who grew up in times further past than the last ten years) had me squealing with delight as I read, hitching onto those subtle mentions or contrived lingo that knew it was over the top and totally played into it.

You have to read these books for what they are: silly nonsense. It’s not trying to be an epic love story filled with action and adventure that has everyone but it laughing. It knows its place and its built itself a nice home in the Silly Suburbs. And I love it.

Rayne, of course, is still my favorite walking contradiction, being both a slayer and a vampire. Her demeanor has softened over the course of the books thanks to emo Jareth but on the adverse side Sunny’s toughened out. She’s not the giggly little girl she used to be and, loathe as I am to say it, she’s absolutely grown on me. I’ve read this series heinously out of order and even skipped a few books (mainly the ones in Sunny’s POV) and I may now need to go back and fill in the gaps. I’m more tolerable of Sunny now and I’d like to see how she got here. Really I’ve only been reading the Blood Coven series from Rayne’s eyes except for BOYS THAT BITE and now, all this time later, I do feel like I’ve missed something; Sunny’s growth out being an insipid little pop tart. I think it’s high time I saw that.

SOUL BOUND is yet another awesome addition to a fantastic series that’s as silly as can get but still sates an appetite for fast-paced adventure and maybe a little romance thrown in. I think even if you’re a fan of the books Blood Coven is satirizing you’ll still like this series. Just go into it knowing it’s supposed to be exactly what you’re reading and you’ll be okay. I just don’t get people that read something like this and actually think it’s meant to be serious. Humorless people, I swear.

I’ve always been a fan of the Blood Coven Vampires series but somehow, Blood Ties did not get to me at all. The book was written from Sunny’s perspective and, my god, is that girl annoying. Not only is she shallow but she’s a mess. She’s flaky, she doesn’t know what she wants and she somehow expects the world to revolve around her. There were so many times in that book where I was so frustrated at her, I could barely contain myself from throwing the book across the room. Or somehow reach into the book and strangle her myself. I mean, yes, she is now a fairy so she’s not as delicate as a regular human but still. There is only so much stuff she can do. I suppose, I should at least give her a point or two for having the courage to dive into danger but at the same time, the fact that she kept complaining about how Marcus, her supposed boyfriend, didn’t want to do things her way and then her dilly-dallying with Jayden. Oh goodness, there were just so many things wrong about Sunny. I really much prefer books from Rayne’s point of view – it’s just so much better.

Plus, the guys in this book were so lame. Marcus was MIA most of the time and when he wasn’t, he was just blah. And Jayden was extremely annoying – he got bitten because he wanted to be closer to Sunny – what kind of lame reason is that?! Not only that, but he becomes a half-vampire only because he didn’t complete the transition so it’s like what were you even thinking? And now he was stuck and needed Sunny’s help aka, really, Marcus’ help. Honestly, this whole book was all over the place and it would’ve been better if I just skipped it, period. I noticed a lot of reviewers on Goodreads also skipped the books written from Sunny’s POV, which now made a lot of sense because she sucks. (Sucks, get it? LOL)

Now the other book, Soul Bound, was a little better mainly because it was from Rayne’s point of view and even though she completely confuses me with her vampire/vampire-slayer/fairy princess/I don’t even know anymore, at least she’s pretty cool. I like her attitude with her don’t mess with me or you die vibe going on. The only downside actually, same with Blood Ties, was that I absolutely hated the pop culture references. I’m pretty positive that Mari mentioned Justin Bieber at least 50 times in each book and honestly, no one likes him so every time when he was mentioned, I was like omg, no. I’m pretty sure only tweens like him and both Rayne and Sunny are not tweens.

The plot for the Soul Bound was pretty decent but omg, the ending totally blows. It was possibly the worst ending ever and I really do not want to give it away but it was just horrible. Honestly, I feel like Mari ran out of things to write but she somehow wants to continue this series when it is now completely dead. I doubt I will continue to read the series by this point just because it’ll be ridiculous and a time-waster, for me at least. Even though it started out pretty good, it was just a fast spiral downwards. Maybe I outgrew the book and the series but at this point, everything from Rayne’s or God forbid, Sunny’s mouth, just seems incredibly juvenile and outrageous. Granted, it’s funny and relatively fast-paced but sometimes, being fast-paced, is not a good thing. And in this case, it’s not.

Overall, Soul Bound was better than Blood Ties but both were incredibly lacking. Sunny was a terrible POV and the ending for Soul Bound was just horrifying.

This book is terrible. The only thing that could possibly redeem it would be if someone did a Mystery Science Theater 3000 thing for bad books instead of bad movies and gave it the redicule and derision it richly deserves. And yeah, I'm also amazed that since I worked at a library in high school and discovered the first two books in this series tucked away two shelves beneath Buffy the Vampire Slayer and a shelf to the left of Charmed in the YA section, this author has managed to churn out 5 more progressively worse titles.

So what are the many things wrong with this? The narrator must be hyperactive, since this book is riddled with so many stale pop culture references that aren't even current when it's published that I can barely find the plot. And when I do, there are so many WTF moments it's like the author got her plot points from a roulette wheel of ideas or (stale reference alert) hired Family Guy's manatees to toss out idea balls. Don't believe me? The main character's described as a vampire vampire slayer slash fairy princess slash I've lost track at this point. There's character development, and then there's this string of random things that happen to her that's character overload or something.

This one involves her going to the underworld to meet Hades (cue obligatory Percy Jackson and hell for ebook pirates jokes) and ends Actually, the real reason is to save her sister, whos death I found so tritely untragic I don't know why she even bothered, where she's reunited with various dead people, which has the emotional thud equivalent to getting a whole bunch of bad birthday presents on your birthday instead of . The only thing that kept me from flinging my Kindle across the room was that I didn't want to shell out a hundred bucks for a replacement.

Update 4.1.12 wow! This book has taken a crazy turn. She's been getting kinda cheesey in her books lately, but if you enjoyed the others this one will not disappoint. don't read the spoiler of you don't want major ones!

Update 3/29/12
Totally in shock right now! I'm on page 109 now and a few pages back, I'm thinking "wow no ones been hurt yet..." Mari has uped the suspense and drama for sure! Oh and there are some negative reviews, but this is just as good as the others. Lots of emotions. Plus too, it's Rayne's POV. She talks a little more like a ditz anyway, funny and crude as always.

Just read what the books going to be about! Wonder what the big sacrifice she's going to have to make is, and who is this "greedy god" they speak of?

So Mitch made me guilty over this book. >:( Why did I gave it a 4 star? Honestly, I don't remember. :P So I'm bumping it by two stars when I REMEMBER THAT IN THE END, they'll be back from the start as if nothing happened just so Sunny wouldn't die and so and so. WTF is that, I don't know. But yes, I'll still read the next book. Just because I already started the series and I'm bound to finish it. >:(

This series just seems to get better with each book. I loved reading Soul Bound and having it told by Rayne. She is my favorite twin in this series.

Sunny and Magnus are on the run because they have been accused of treason. Rayne doesn't even know where they are at the moment but she wants to find them and fast. Rayne soon finds out that her next assignment with Slayer Inc. is to find Sunny and Magnus. Things are not what they seem though and Rayne needs to find them before Bertha or the Vampire Consortium does first. When Rayne gets a lead on where they are hiding her and Jareth head there to try and warn them before it is too late.

As I have stated previously my favorite twin in this series is Rayne. I really like her personality. She doesn't back down from anyone, is a wild card, you never know what she is going to do next. Her and Jareth's relationship is tested in this installment. There are a lot of things that happen and that change the twins lives forever. I loved how the author had the underworld with Hades set up. I enjoyed reading the entire book but the time that they were in the underworld was great. I like Race, the rock star too. He is so funny at times and is a bit of a wild card like Rayne.

The ending we are left with quite the cliffhanger, I mean it is a real game changer. I am looking forward to see how this is all going to play out. This series is so much fun to read and I recommend reading it if you haven't started it yet!

After Rayne is told she has to kill her Twin sister sunny (or pretend to be looking for her), who is hiding with her vampire boyfriend, Rayne encourages Jareth the blood coven leader who happens to be her boyfriend to help find and save sunny and magnus. When sunny is killed in the raid of their hiding place, Rayne is determined to spring her out of Hades.( the underworld for mythical creatures, sunny is a fairy princess). In Hades, Jareth (is still not talking) gets to see his sister again (the one he was convinced he got killed), Rayne gets to see her dad ( who was killed saving her life, when they were rescuing sunny from fairyland), and Hades himself granted Rayne and Sunny a do over, meaning they leave everything behind including Jareth and Magnus.

I started on Soul Bound back in 2013 or maybe 2014 (November or October) I can't remember, but It took me awhile to finish this book and today midnight I almost finish it close to 1:00 am lol. I can say this book was good as the other six books once I took the time to get into the book and read it because the first time I read it, I kept getting distracted and couldn't quite get into it. And man I can't wait to read part eight (with Sunny and Rayne) point of view, I know it's going to be good.

[SPOILER ALERT ]

Plus with Sunny getting a do-over to get her soul back, I couldn't blame Rayne, that's her twin sister, who wouldn't miss that opportunity to get their family soul back and have them on EARTH again. I also, like how the author Mari Mancusi added Hades (god of the underworld), his wife Persephone (Goddess of the underworld, the daughter of Zeus) and Hercules (Hero, and the son of Zeus). And how she wrote them in the book, by their looks the way they dress, and how Persephone and Hercules were dating behind Hade's back lol like whhhhhat? Lol, plus when people die they went to the 'Underworld" it's kind of unique, like heaven and hell mixed in one, it was interesting. After seeing all of that, I wonder if "RACE" the rockstar going to change his ways as he says lol. But in the end, I hope they get Sunny from being dead and get Magnus from Pyrus claws; I am also glad that Jareth got to meet and see his family again since he blamed himself for his sister death. But I do wish his brother (wish he got to see his brother again and hopefully, prayerfully, I probably already know, both Sunny, and Rayne will be reunited with their vampire boyfriends Magnus and Jareth.

Soul Bound: (A Blood Coven Vampire Novel Book 7 )

Soul Bound: (A Blood Coven Vampire Novel Book 7 ) OMG this book was great.. This book had many shocking twists that made me not want to put this book down. Rayne's got a very important decision to make, a decision that could change things drastically. And then...BAM! It ends with a cliffhanger so crazy that I was in utter shock! It's seriously got me worried, and I can't say that I like it...but I just hope everything works out. Can't wait to start book 8. I listened to the audible book and read when I could, finished Definitely recommend this book / series

Rayne has been tasked by Slayer, Inc to find Sunny and Magnus so they can be tried by the Consortium. Rayne takes the case but only to be able to slow it down and warn her sister. Bertha, the original slayer, is back and says she has been assigned to the case as well. Rayne learns from her that the Consortium know where Sunny and Magnus are and it is just a matter of time. Rayne and Jareth make a beeline to them to warn them – unwittingly leading the enemy right to them. Tragedy happens and Rayne visits with Hades who gives her a devastating choice. I loved the plot twist from Hades.

The storyline and plot were very good, some people may not like this book, but I thought it was interesting and it kept you wanting more, as I got into the book it actually pulled me in and I couldn't stop reading because I wanted to know what will happen next. I hope that part 8 "Blood Forever" will be as good as books 1-8 if you haven't read the blood coven series you should great vampire stories. I am a huge fan of vampires and zombie books lol.

Content Warning: eating disorder, death, grief and too many HP references
I'm so happy this is the second to last one. I'm so tired of this series. This one was okay I guess. Exploring hell and reuniting families sounds fun and those parts were great. Bertha the vampire slayer faking a eating disorder is horrible and unnecessary to the story. I am excited for the next one with Sunny having the POV again but truly didn't like this at all.

This book was really amazing!
Rayne and Jareth have to find Magnus and Sunny first?
Rayne has to save Sunny, its here twin sister.
Will she go to Hades to do it?
Will she save her, will jareth still love her?
To finish the last book in this series is almost heartbreaking,
I will so miss Sunny and Rayne now for the last book in this series.

Soul Bound is the seventh Blood Coven Vampire’s satirical series. Like the previous books, this one maintains it’s rather juvenile character development and plot. Don’t get me wrong Sunny is way less whiny and Rayne is way less angry whiny than earlier books, but the overblown way Mari does it is hysterical. This book mainly focuses on Rayne as she tries to find a way out of being sent to hunt down her sister and Magnus while Slayer, Inc. investigates Pyrus and tries to overthrow him. Chaos ensues the moment she and Jareth go looking to warn them that Pyrus is on their tail. What she doesn’t know is that Bertha, the made-over slayer, is lying when she says that they already had an idea of where Sunny is. Actually the Consortium uses Jareth’s secretary to low jack him and track him to them. The end result is that Sunny dies and Magnus is captured. So Rayne journeys to the underworld to save her sister Orpheus and Eurydice style. And there’s freaking wifi…in the Greek Underworld, and Hellbook, like Facebook but for the dead. You can check people’s living status (but not communicate with those still alive) and find people who left this life before you. That’s right, you thought death meant getting away from social media. Oh and most Chinese sweatshops have outsourced to the freaking Fields of Asphodel. You heard me. Sweatshops in the afterlife. The thing that annoyed me most is their use of “Hell” throughout the book when the Greek Underworld was more than just Tartarus. The Elysian Fields are shown but still stormed by demon patrol? It was an odd take for sure. THEN the ending is that they hit reset and we’re back at the beginning of the series to do things right this time? I am not sure how to handle that. I enjoyed the story and the portrayal of Hades as a gamer who is willing to let souls go for good gaming tips. If you enjoy an easy quick satirical read about semi-superficial teenagers with a crap ton of celebrity look-a-likes, you’ll enjoy this series.
