Nicholas Briggs is a British actor and writer, predominantly associated with the BBC science fiction television series Doctor Who and its various spin-offs. Some of Briggs' earliest Doctor Who-related work was as host of The Myth Makers, a series of made-for-video documentaries produced in the 1980s and 1990s by Reeltime Pictures in which Briggs interviews many of the actors and writers involved in the series. When Reeltime expanded into producing original dramas, Briggs wrote some stories and acted in others, beginning with War Time, the first unofficial Doctor Who spin-off, and Myth Runner, a parody of Blade Runner showcasing bloopers from the Myth Makers series built around a loose storyline featuring Briggs as a down on his luck private detective in the near future.

He wrote and appeared in several made-for-video dramas by BBV, including the third of the Stranger stories, In Memory Alone opposite former Doctor Who stars Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant. He also wrote and appeared in a non-Stranger BBV production called The Airzone Solution (1993) and directed a documentary film, Stranger than Fiction (1994).

Briggs has directed many of the Big Finish Productions audio plays, and has provided Dalek, Cybermen, and other alien voices in several of those as well. He has also written and directed the Dalek Empire and Cyberman audio plays for Big Finish. In 2006, Briggs took over from Gary Russell as executive producer of the Big Finish Doctor Who audio range.

Briggs co-wrote a Doctor Who book called The Dalek Survival Guide.

Since Doctor Who returned to television in 2005, Briggs has provided the voices for several monsters, most notably the Daleks and the Cybermen. Briggs also voiced the Nestene Consciousness in the 2005 episode "Rose", and recorded a voice for the Jagrafess in the 2005 episode "The Long Game"; however, this was not used in the final episode because it was too similar to the voice of the Nestene Consciousness. He also provided the voices for the Judoon in both the 2007 and 2008 series. On 9 July 2009, Briggs made his first appearance in the Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood in the serial Children of Earth, playing Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary Rick Yates.

While travelling with Alex, the Doctor's great grandson, Lucie ends up in Thailand when a plague hits earth. The Daleks are back with a large bang. Lucie is seriously ill and tries to contact the Doctor through a gizmo he left her. However the Doctor is not responding being stuck in a Sun will do that.
But as always the Doctor is an unstoppable Storm and bound to arrive. And then there is the matter of this other timetraveller and former companion Tamzin.
Lucie Miller met the Doctor while confronting the Daleks, it seems her tale has come full circle.
Lucie Miller starts telling the story from her perspective before the Doctor actually arrives.
A spectacular first part of the finale of the fourth series of the Doctor with Miss Miller.

This was a really decent first part of a Dalek finale two parter. It's mainly from Lucie's point of view as she details the Earth being decimated by a plague caused by the Daleks.

I thought it was quite interesting because the Doctor was barely in this and really, Susan takes his place as the knowledgeable Time Lord. I really like Susan, and I thought she was really good in this audio.

I think this audio was really good at bringing together all these disparate parts of the season that, at the time, had seemed either pointless or a little boring.

I'm not really disposed to like Dalek stories, because I feel as though the ol' tin cans have been well overused and are just irritating. This story, however, managed to grab my attention because it starts out as a narrative of *everything* going wrong, with Lucie going through absolute hell, while Susan practically goes into PTSD as the Daleks descend on the Earth in an oversized version of their 23rd Century Invasion. The story cuts back and forth between Lucie's despairing narration and battles with the Daleks...and the presence of the Monk, playing Quisling to the Dalek invaders but also carrying out a plan of his own. Something seems out of whack...but what? It's a cracking opening segment of a season closer, and Nick Briggs' Dalek performances here are scarily effective.

It's been a while since I heard Lucie Miller...to the death, and still to this day, these two are some of the finest works Nick Briggs has written.

Absolutely loved it. Loved how real it all felt, and how Lucie was narrating her journey and experiences to survive. She's one tough lucky girl. And I love how desperate everything seemed to be, even how Susan still experiences PTSD and trauma from the last time the Daleks invaded Earth. And love how Alex is becoming more of his own hero.

And loved the bit right at the end with the Meddling Monk and Tamsin. Superb stuff.

Now onto the heart breaking episode...

“LUCIE MILLER”
Scritto da NICHOLAS BRIGGS.
Con PAUL McGANN, SHERIDAN SMITH, CAROLE ANN FORD, JAKE MCGANN, NIKY WARDLEY, GRAEME GARDEN as the Monk e NICHOLAS BRIGGS as the Daleks.
"Ciao! Dottore, sono io. Lucie. Lucie Miller..."

Basically, "Lucie Miller" is two things. First, it is the beginning of the end for Lucie Miller. Briggs takes her apart piece by piece - her legs, her eyes, her faith in The Doctor, all are getting torn apart. Second, "Lucie Miller" is in essence a re-write of "The Dalek Invasion of Earth," and Briggs brings it out in the open repeatedly, so no one can complain. It is not very much of a re-write in the broad scheme. Briggs is also tying up some loose ends of the whole "Lucie Miller" sequence by bringing in the returning characters, presumably to kill off most of them. So, Susan and Alex are back, as are The Meddling Monk and Tamsin. Briggs tires some innovation by having Lucie narrate much of the action in a taped message to The Doctor, and by having The Doctor out of the story for all but the last five or so minutes. Basically, the idea is "what happens if The Doctor arrives too late"? This sets us up for the next, and final, episode, wherein, one presumes, the narrative lines of the continuing characters will be closed, permanently.

FIRST PART OF STORY ARC – 3/5 STARS

Fairly tepid, but easily digestable with an OK plot and extra dose of recurring characters. Some average elements and dialogue that should probably emote and excite more than does (the major complaint – script issues), but entertaining just enough (and to be generous in truth I feel on point in a middle-of-road rating for its section of story). First part (not standalone by any measure) of a 2-part story arc that should have been bundled with and is required for its finale ‘To the Death.’

Nevertheless, it’s essential as part of the ‘Lucie Miller/To the Death’ story arc.
This was 3/5.

The first of the two parter finale of the 8th Doctor Lucie Miller series is a real banger.
The Daleks, aided by the Monk and his assistand Tamsin Drew have released a plague on Earth to distract people from their master plan. Lucie survives, barely but she's disfigured, blind and paralysed - The Doctor is nowhere to be found, but Susan and her son still have hope that he'll come and save the day.

This one really show's Sheridan Smith's range - It's really poignant and at the same time she retains her smart mouth. Excellent Dalek story that harps back to Classic Who with superb performances across the board. Graeme Garden makes a wonderful Monk.

Thrilling, Dark. Exciting. Basically just the Dalek's Invasion of Earth but from another perspective and with characters taking more risks and suffering due to those risks. I really liked this one, definitely worth the wait.
Also, the Monk sucks here. His comeuppance in the next episode better be damn good.

Easily the best episode of the Eighth Doctor Audios so far, (that is the hour format episodes.) Was a tough listen with all that Lucie went through, only to "kill" the Doctor, Earth's last hope, accidentally at the end. Excited to listen to the finale next!

The one was much better with the last, tying together many things from previous stories which seemed to be one-offs. Old friends, old enemies and a decent story made this one go by quickly.

Move aside, Doctor... Lucie Miller has the best audiobook of series 4. For a story released in 2011, the opening sequence about the spreading of a pandemic felt uncomfortably familiar.

Lucie Miller (Sheridan Smith) has had a troubled relationship with the Doctor (Paul McGann). Forced into the TARDIS by the Time Lords, parting company on bad terms, they seemed to patch up their differences. Lucie wound up travelling the world with the Doctor's great-grandson Alex in the 22nd century.
However, it isn't long before the Doctor is needed again - the Daleks return for a second attempt after he stopped them invading Earth in his first body. This time, it looks like they might succeed, and the Doctor is nowhere to be seen. What's more, it seems another old foe is part of the Daleks' plans - and so is an old friend.
As the odds stack up against Lucie and her human allies, the Doctor finally comes to her aid - but will he get there in time? When he does, will it ultimately matter?
First in a two-part story, this is a full-cast audio drama.

Seitdem habe ich Doctor Who gemieden.

Paul McGann (The Doctor), Sheridan Smith (Lucie Miller), Niky Wardley (Tamsin Drew), Graeme Garden (The Monk), Carole Ann Ford (Susan Campbell), Jake McGann (Alex Campbell), John Banks (Seb Andrews) Nicholas Briggs (The Daleks)

I have been more or less indifferent or wildly opinionated by the New Eighth Doctor Adventures, which seemed to be struggling deeply over the change in format and the need to be somewhat separated from the monthly Doctor Who line. By this point they seemed to have gotten the hang of properly pacing their individual stories and were attempting to figure out how to do series long arcs, and they never really managed to fix that before they ended the New EDA line. However, they demonstrated time and time again that the old two hour long format was working great for everyone and Lucie Miller/To the Death is one of the greatest examples of this. Though the Doctor Who TV show has gotten a bit predictable with its use of Daleks, something about Big Finish has allowed the writers to be as creative and as terrible with Daleks as they see fit. Daleks are and continue to be terrifying and scary in the audios where the TV series seem to fall short and never was that better demonstrated than in Lucie Miller/To the Death, where they didn't so much focus on the horror that is Daleks, but rather upon the absolute devastation that Daleks wreak upon planets that they invade. There are a lot of things I didn't like about Series 4 of the New EDA, but Lucie Miller/To the Death just about made up for all the frustrations I felt over character inconsistencies and arcs (and golly did I have a LOT). It's strong in story, plot, emotions, it ties up character arcs admittedly rather shoddily, but if you ignore the fact that several episodes came before this and picture that Series 4 took place over some years with this as the conclusion, it is one hell of a bang to end on and it does it well. I recommend this audio to just about anyone who thinks that Daleks are a joke, because they demonstrate here that they are anything but.

Really loved this. Especially the parts with Lucie narrating. So dark, so sad and so brilliantly written. I must admit I was less excited that the Monk and Tamsin had returned but even they did a better job. I felt so sorry for Susan and Lucie to have to go through all that. The plague, the dalek invasion. I must admit I really love the stories where the Doctor isn't there to save everything and it just all goes to hell. This was just as good as I'd heard. I can't wait to listen to the second half.

I really did enjoy this, and hope that the climax will pay off - the season's regular and semi-regular characters, Sheridan Smith as Lucie, Graeme Garden as the Meddling Monk, Carole Ann Ford as Susan, and even the ones I felt were weaker, Jake McGann as Alex and Niky Wardley as Tamsin, seem to have picked up a gear. With so many lead characters, the story doesn't have a lot of Doctor in it but sometimes that is OK.

I was impressed by how well this story brings together so many elements from this season that initially seemed a bit gimmicky or throw-away: new companion Tamsin, the return of the Meddling Monk, Susan, Alex. Even the Daleks seem exciting here. May be Big Finish's best attempt yet at a New Series style "epic" season-ending two parter.

Verdict: Recommended

This story is amazing, but it's also horribly depressing. No one leaves unscathed, and it's only the first half. The daleks are irredeemable in this, and so is the secondary villain revealed near the end. Honestly I love what they've done with that secondary villain. Really great listen.

Of all the 8th Doctor Stories this is possibly the best. Dramatic, exciting, moving and in places tense to the point of being harrowing. A story that showcases the Daleks at their most evil and the bravery of Lucie, Susan and Alex. Superbly written, paced and acted throughout.

Great audio adventure but the cliff hanger was typically lame. They can't keep killing the doctor. You know he'll be fine in part 2.
