Main point is that that political systems should be analyzed as systems, not in their constituent parts. We should think about how inputs into a system are translated into outputs, and how these outputs then affect the inputs. This is a good point for one sort of analysis but the book is much too abstract, promising a usefulness of analysis that did not materialize in the decades to come.
When I was in graduate school, systems theory was one of the major approaches to the study of politics. And David Easton was a primasry exponent of this perspective. Hence, in my very first year of graduate school, this and some other works on systems theory became a key component of my reading list.
