Today is a great day. I met the Ideophones. They knocked on my door, introducing themselves simply, " We are Ideophones, maybe you want to join us ", and offered me a brochure about them,
with a humble expression.
So I learned that they are actually words that evoke an idea in sound. Nice guys . For example, in Japanese, " doki-doki" mimics the sound of a heartbeat. Suddenly , I was ashamed of my poor French " bling-bling " . But then I felt better thinking about Chuck Berry's " ding -a -ling -a-ling " .
