Take a creative approach to problem-solving and reasoning skills! 'Sequence machines' contains seven activities that that can be used flexibly to develop understanding of sequences across a wide range of ages and abilities. Each activity includes ideas for whole class work and challenges for pupils to work at individually or in small groups. Other curriculum areas involved are mental arithmetic including number inequalities, number properties, ratio; and, optionally, work with formulae, including solving linear and quadratic equations and rearranging formulae. There are also many opportunities for problem solving. These involve exploring, generalising, multi-step reasoning and proving. There are detailed teacher's notes for all the activities which can be printed out.
