Rate this book
Derek is a hero, a soldier and a Duke. He is also a drunken, dissolute womanizer spiraling into self-destruction. Years after Derek distinguishes himself in battle as Warlord of the Kingdom of Ariva; he chafes beneath the mantle of peace that reigns under the guardianship of two powerful dragons. To make matters worse, one of those dragons was once a princess and his fiancée. Because his history in Ariva is suffocating him, Derek undertakes a journey to accompany magical, carved obelisks to the southern kingdom of Vanguard. While on his journey, Vanguard’s queen offers him a quest to travel deep within a magically blasted realm teeming with mutants. She promises him a prize he cannot refuse, a genuine dragon’s egg, nearing maturity and pulsing with magical power. Will he find himself along the way? Will he find another woman to share his life? Or will a deadly cult seeking the last spawn of the evil dragon god Solendar destroy what goodness remains in Derek’s soul?

Born a dragon, but forced to take human form to fit into those little baby carriers, Susan accepted that she'd have to live a mortal life. She just wasn't going to go around being all boring about it. As soon as she was old enough, she immediately applied for an alien abduction, but got wait-listed, so she made her lair in the desert to wait out the coming zombie apocalypse with a pair of magical cats (they can appear underfoot in an instant, usually at the steps) and the dog from Hades that has three heads (and now has three bodies to go with them).

When the white knight came to fight the dragon, Susan liked him so much she decided to marry him and they now have a beautiful little dragonlet. (Who looks just like a little girl unless you use a magic mirror)

Fortunately, despite being trapped in this dimension, Susan uses her dragon's vision to see all the most interesting goings-on in the multiverse. Figuring they made great stories, she decided to share them with the rest of the mortal world, by writing fantasy, science fiction and romance.

Did not like this one as much as the first. Derek was not as likable and it was annoying how big a womanizer he was. I also thought it was sad that they forgot about the dragon egg after it caused so much trouble. I can only surmise that it's a set up for another book.

Wow!

Another intriguing tale filled with magic, dragon's , magical creatures, Princesses, and good and evil at war! The story is fast paced magic that will have you flipping pages from start to finish. I loved it and highly recommend reading this because because it's a perfect fantasy!

Amazing Second Installment

Just, WOW!! The twists and turns just keep you glued to your seat. Totally didn't see the big twist but boy does it bring the entire story into the "a-ha" light! So happy with the ending, looking forward to the 3rd one. Excellent read!

Started out as a good read, easily four stars and maybe even five. Somewhere along the line, though, the writer seemed to lose the story's flow, with telling replacing showing and run-on sentences breaking my concentration. Three stars is the best I can give. Skimmed the final few chapters, especially the dénouement and epilogue, so maybe that's generous.

[SPOILER ALERT] The effect of a very nice plot twist is ruined when the hero doesn't solve the insoluble problem himself. His mother does. Doesn't work.[END SPOILER]

Wish I could do better, because the idea was good and the characters decently likeable and well fleshed. I'm a sucker for dragon books and good ones are rare. I may yet be back for more of the author's world.

debating whether to read it or not since im ok with derek but even though his being rejected by sondra makes me pity him and i dont know if i want him with another girl. His becoming a womanizer sort of puts me off but maybe its cause im rather skittish about such heroes.
