Sure the mom did wrong not wanting to talk about the father, who BTW sounds like a deadbeat.
But let me honest I got to be honest, the girl Opie is tad too obsessed with her biological father and too much in love with a dream that will never come true. At some point the child of divorced/widowed parents have got to face facts that their parents are NOT getting back together.
Life is not a Hallmark movie, familial insularity is poison. After all we can't control other people's lovelives especially parents'.
