Covering the most troublesome aspects of parenthood, this book is full of real, sensible, down-to-earth guidance.
It restores you confidence in yourself so you don't feel undermined by all the self-proclaimed experts and enables you to raise your children in a way that is better for them...and lot better for you!
I’ve heard Dr Ray’s show on the radio and liked his common-sense approach so when we found out we were having baby, I looked up his books. This was a good easy read, sensible advice, some of it practical although mostly general... Might have to re-read.
I read this probably a decade ago and I liked it. It was at a point when I definitely needed someone to tell me that I was a better parent than I felt like I was.
Guarendi is Catholic and has written books on adoption and parenting in general.
This is an excellent book and I recommend it to all parents- both new, experienced, and expecting! Dr. Guarendi goes through all of the traps we have as parents and disciplining practices. If you want reassurances that you're on the right track, this book is a boost. If you want ideas of what to do - and what NOT to do - this book is a guide. Dr. Guarendi is very experienced and shares his wisdom in a humorous and understandable way. I may read this book again when I have older children and need some help!
Absolutely outstanding book. It presents very practical advice for staying sane as a parent amid times when it can be very difficult, stressful, and scary to be a parent. Much of the advice fits well with what we already believe and is already working well for us.
I will be returning to this book many times over the next several years as my kids are 2 and under and I know I will need the refresher from time to time.
I found this on the free shelf at the library, and it has simple, practical advice for parents. There was nothing earth-shatteringly new to me, but it did provide me with some good reminders as I raise my 11 and 13 year olds. I love the line on the first page that states, "Insanity is hereditary. You get it from your kids." Ha! All parents can relate to this statement!
