This audio book is perfect to keep young listeners quiet and entertained. Aimed at children 6 to 9, but I can see older children really liking this too. A wonderfully narrated space set story full of humour and colourful imagination. I liked the fact that the lead character is a girl. And for parents wanting more out of their child’s audio book consumption, there are STEM snippets and the story deals with jealousy as well. Stand alone, but I think more adventures for Susie in the future. Thank you to Harper Collins UK Audio and NetGalley for the audio ARC. The views expressed are all mine, freely given.

This is a good STEM book with excitement and fun throughout. I enjoyed at the end of each chapter there were "fun facts" all science based.

Firstly, I love the illustrations, I think they're great. However, there were a few occasions where the pictures didn't match the story, for instance, two characters have to wear headphones at one point to protect themselves and in all the illustrations related to it they're not wearing any. The story keeps mentioning it as well, so it's a bit glaring and kids will spot it. But apart from a few times lacking that level of detail, the illustrations really do bring the story to life, with a lovely style and energy.

I also love all the educational stuff they've included, it's a nice touch, and perfect for kids interested in science and technology.

The story was a nice little who dunnit mystery, with a nice resolution. I loved the creativity of the different planets and their cultures and seasons etc.

One little problem I had was that the male characters had flaws and the female characters didn't. I think we're seeing this a lot in books and films, and it's a shame. I would have loved to have seen the girls written with a few flaws they have to overcome and develop through. Because it ends up just making the guys look weak and pathetic in comparison, but actually we get a really good characters arc for one of them. So I would have liked this for the main character, she was a little too perfect, competent, clever, fearless, and a mini-saviour. I wanted her to have more challenges and weaknesses to grow through. It also started to be a bit of a one-girl show by the end. The guys on the team sometimes even needed convincing to help the aliens in need they encountered. It seemed odd for a team that supposedly are heroic, that the newbie was the one taking all the initiative and offering the help. It made me question what this team actually did before Suzie came along. But she was a really sweet character, I just would have liked a bit more of a balance between her and the other team members.

I would also prefer it if Suzie's parents knew where she was, or that the adults on the crew made more of an effort to actually try and contact her parents and find her a way back home. I know this may 'kill the fun', but it just felt a bit irresponsible and odd for these adults to not do those things for a lost child. This is such a common problem in this sort of story, but I think this could have been solved by the adults at least trying to do those things, even if it was proving difficult. And for the ending to be them finding a way to take her home. The authors could still send her on another mission because of complications or events outside of the characters' control, but the crew encouraging her to stay instead of helping her get home just didn't feel right.

But apart from these two things, I thought the book was a really sweet book, with lots of fun and interesting ideas. And I really liked that Suzie was a little inventor and that she was kind and compassionate.
