200 pages of a guy hating everything and going further and further into his depression. Writing style is fine and probably revolutionary at its time, but nowadays nothing special. Boring read, nothing really happens, he's just unhappy. Passages were fine, but long descriptions and inner monologues just sometimes dragged it. Not worth the hype
This book was so good! Holden Caulfield is so much more than a “whiny” main character like some people say. Holden Caulfield is a teenager struggling with childhood trauma but also griefing his adolescence. You read in parts like where he said he wished he could be a catcher in the rye, saving kids from losing their innocence. Also in the part where he’s talking about the museum, about how nothing changes, everything stays the same, except for you, you will always be different in some way. I also think him referring to people as “phonies” is because he feels like he doesn’t really belong anywhere, he’s a completely different person than most people and has a different thought process than most. He can see through people more than others. Anyway this was a great book I’ll definitely be reading this again soon.
I only got addicted to this book because it was so relatable. I loved the use of symbols like the ducks in the pond and Holden's little sister. I loved the theme which was basically about "the protection of childhood and its innocence." I liked the character Holden the most but I felt sad for him because of the fact that he could not move past most things in his life. On the other hand, I loved his bravery and how he thought about this. This book left me feeling empty and yet assured that everything will be alright. It was like a warm blanket. On the bad side, I did not like the ending. I felt it was rushed. It felt as if the author had nothing else to say. But still, the ending was still deep and full of powerful quotes.
I initially picked up this read due to the fact that "Catcher In The Rye" has since been marked banned, however I was immensely underwhelmed.
This was a short, depressing tale of a troubled kid told in a very "matter of fact" style. The read was a bit dryer than my usual taste but I pulled through. The deeper I dove, the darker the read. While this may not have been my cup of tea, it is definitely someone's.

I somewhat liked the book. it was an easy read with a lot of action so it kept me thinking and engaged the whole time, but it made me mad that the wasn't a proper ending. I lose sleep at night wondering about what happened after the book ended or what could have happened. I feel like it would be a good ending if there was a second part to the novel. So overall I was kind of disappointed in the ending, but for a book we had to read at school, it was kind of refreshing and fun.
An interesting perspective of life. Very engaging adventures the main character goes on. A classic that is wonderfully written. Thank you for this entertaining novel of a young boy.
I would have rated this book as one of the worst things I have ever put my hands on and It was opinion for the better half of this book, the pacing is very weird and could have been better.....Or not. I think it has something to do with how strangly he interacts with the actors . In the end I was convinced he is going to kill himself....but not only he doesn't he gives away a beautiful message. Yeah a beautiful message from this guy.........
