Truckee Wolves #3

Doms of Dark Haven 2: Western Nights

Rate this book
A Good sub Would... by Sierra Cartwright
Genre: BDSM Erotic Contemporary

Shelby, a wanna-be sub, hasn’t found a Dom strong enough to push past her need to be in control. Her experiences as a sub have been yawn-inducing. She’s fantasized plenty, though, about Trevor Lawton, one of Dark Haven’s legendary, mouthwateringly firm Doms.

As the stakes get higher at the charity poker match, Dom Trevor Lawton is fascinated by the woman kneeling across the table from him. Problem is, she’s not a good sub. Oh, she tries, and she’s lovely. But she’s not very good at following orders. The woman needs a firm, unyielding hand...his.

Hunting Holly by Belinda McBride
Genre: BDSM Shape-shifter Paranormal Menage
Related Titles: Educating Evangeline, part of the Doms of Dark Haven anthology

When Holly left the Truckee pack, she left her family, her safety, and the two men she loved. Now she's in San Francisco training as a Domme at Dark Haven. She thinks she's found herself, but tonight, Tex and Hunter have found her. And they are not happy with their little wolf. She's been keeping secrets from them. Tonight, someone's gonna beg.

Additional Publisher's Warning: This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: anal play/intercourse, caning, sensory deprivation.

Welcome to the Dark Side by Cherise Sinclair
Genre: BDSM Erotic Contemporary
Related Titles: Master of the Mountain; Master of the Abyss; Simon Says: Mine, part of the Doms of Dark Haven anthology

Real Doms terrify her, so Summer plays with lightweights only. And only in the safety of her club, Dark Haven. But on Western Night, the tough cop who wins her in a sub-roping game is as powerful as they come.

Virgil's first taste of BDSM was disturbingly enticing. Hoping to burn out his interest, he visits an infamous San Francisco club, where he wins himself the prettiest little sub he’s ever seen. He’s in a quandary. A man shouldn’t render a woman helpless, let alone spank her ass. But the nervous little submissive clearly loves being in his ropes. Her need to be controlled is as powerful as his need to control. So he indulges himself, and her.

That one night could be the beginning, but instead it's the end. She won't play outside the club and he lives too far to come play. He'll just have to find a way to forget her...or get her in his ropes to stay.

Publisher's Note: All of the stories within this anthology contain explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: strong BDSM theme and elements (including/not limited to: bondage and spanking).

Well, I had bought both Dark Haven books at the same time and thus read them one right after another. All told, it took 2 days per book. I guess I'm a fast reader? Once again this is a shared world anthology of BDSM stories that have the club Dark Haven, owner Issac and receptionist Destiny in common. After that though, everything is different and each author tells a very different story. Like last time the book was uneven, each of these authors has a very different writing style and some of those styles work for me while others do not. I'd like to be able to say that I enjoyed each and every story in this book, but I would be lying.

I think I just don't really enjoy the way that Sierra Cartwright tells a story in the end. 'A Good Sub Would' isn't very much different than her installment for the first Dark Haven book. Nothing but sex and precious little story. Again, if I was reading this for "me time", than the porn would be no problem, but I wasn't. I bought this book to read STORIES, not porn. Grant you, stories with some face fanning sex, but stories nevertheless. Also, once again... hope you like anal and a lot of it... just sayin'.

Once more the male lead, Trevor Lawton, is a complete and total asshole and once again, because this book is nothing but sex he gets VERY little page time to be shown as anything but an asshole. Does Sierra Cartwright understand that just because someone is a dom/domme that does not go hand in hand with also being an utter jerk? I'm thinking no since this is the 2nd BDSM story of her's that I've read and the 2nd time that the dom was a putrid jerk.

Lastly, some of the acts described where a bit.. laughable. Trevor has Shelby crawl EVERYWHERE in his home. Really? His home is also described as carpetless. Riiiiiight, like she would really have been able to spend one ENTIRE week on her knees with no padding. Also he has her crawl not just up, but DOWN his stairs. I would like to see Sierra Cartwright crawl down a set of stairs on her hands and knees. Children who use crawling as their primary mode of transportation don't even do that. They go down the stairs on their butts one at a time. It's nearly impossible to crawl down a staircase on your hands and knees without ending up using your face as an impromptu surfboard.

Reading all the crawling eventually had me laughing my ass off. I stopped reading this story halfway through when I came to the conclusion that there wasn't going to be any plot happening, and skimmed to the end. There are some half-assed attempts at plot in the end, but they mostly revolve around Shelby thinking about how much she masturbates to memories of her week with Trevor.

Yawn.

'Hunting Holly' by Belinda McBride was another look into the packs of Northern California and we got to see some characters we'd been introduced to in her first Dark Haven story. This is another werewolf PNR plotline and it has something different, actually a few things. First off this is a poly story. The specifics are M/F/M and I have to say this plot could have run roughshod all over the place, but it didn't. You get an equal look at each person in the trio and a decently fleshed out persepective on who fits where in their threesome.

Also, this fic doesn't have a true sub as it were. Holly is a domme and due to how the mating imperative works for wolves, she needs to submit to her mates during her heat or risk being out of control. So what we have here is a switch. A dominant woman who "switches" to submissive in very specific circumstances. I enjoyed that we got a look at Holly being a domme before she went sub for her mates.

Again lots of intruiging plot points about the packs and the people in them were brought up. As far as I can tell this is not a story that McBride is writing in any other format, so those loose ends and intruiging corners are still unexplored by her. I can only hope taht she will deem these two packs of werewolves interesting enough to her to write a full length book or two about them.

The third and final story is 'Welcome to the Dark Side' by Cherise Sinclair. How do I say this? FINALLY SHE DID SOMETHING DIFFERENT!!! I was about to give up on her, I was so bored that it was like I wanted to gargle borax than read another one of her BDSM books. But just as I was about to... give up, she FINALLY surprises me.

After 5 Shadowlands books, 1 Masters of the Mountain book, and 1 Doms of Dark Haven book, I really was done, but for the 2nd D of DH book she did something she's NEVER done before. The sub was the one with the experience and it was the DOM who was the newbie. The sub still had many of the issues that most Sinclair written subs do, but this time, it was she who was reassuring the man that his desires weren't perverted nor anything to be ashamed of. It was the sub who helped the dom become the person he really is and THAT was a perspective that Sinclair has never once dealt with in her books. In fact many times her other characters sneer at newbie doms, so it was a breath of startlingly fresh air that she took on this new territory to tell her story. In doing so she has garunteed that I will stick around and read some more of her offerings. In fact, I intend to buy her 2nd Masters of the Mountain book and read it right away. Maybe more good surprises are in store for me in that one?

Also, this story is connected to 'Simon Says' from the 1st Dark Haven book. The sub is Summer, the poor girl who was being whipped by an abusive dom who deliberately ignored her yelling her safe word. Her plotline was all about how that experience affected her and how she ultimately recovered from it. What is great about Sinclair is that she routinely reminds her readers that there is a difference between being a dom and being an abusive dick. They are not one and the same and today too many people think that they are.

Unfortunately there were 3 things that made me cranky with this story:

1. Once again the female lead, who is NOT described as very thin, looks around a room and finds an overweight man to be repulsive. This one is "potbellied" and frankly, Sinclair's second BDSM book featured a female lead who was written to be at LEAST as overweight as this man... and we were supposed to see her as beautiful. I'm a getting the sense that Ms. Sinclair is sizest when it comes to men, but never tires of grinding her axe about how "lush and beautiful" overweight women are. To that I say the same thing that I said in my last review of her work (Doms of Dark Haven 1): You can't have it both ways Ms. Sinclair. Either ALL people of ALL sizes are beautiful or none of them are. Pick one because hypocrisy makes me cranky.

Also, I find it ironic that when a man is a bad guy in her books he's "fat" and "disgusting" and when a woman is a bad guy in her books she's usually a model type. It's starting to speak volumes.

2. She barely used the character of Destiny and since I flat out ADORE Destiny... I missed the crap out of her in this story. Especially since she was used so well in the other two author's stories. In fact Destiny was the ONLY thing I actually liked about both Dark Haven novellas written by Sierra Cartwright.

3. A character named Mary Anne was dropped into this story once the plotline moved to Bear Flats in the Sierra mountains of California. It was out of nowhere and she had never been mentioned previously and the way all the characters were reacting to her, she should have been. I ended up being really confused.

All told though, this was one of Sinclair's better stories in a long time. Maybe she's finally gotten some fresh inspiration and will stop telling the same old tired story ad infinium?

Lastly: Destiny still rocks and stole the show.

Virgil, Virgil, Virgil. Just when you think you've read every Dom story out there, Cherise Sinclair comes along and writes one of the sweetest, kindest, and most lovable Doms. Virgil was sweet, analytical, hot and sensitive. His connection with Summer was absolute perfection and it just felt right from the very start. Without the need for a long story, you'll definitely get your Dom fix. Worth all 5 stars!

My rating is based on the third part of this book only.

Yee-haw! Giddy-up cowboy or girl!

So like Doms of Dark Haven 1, I purchased this antho because one of the stories was by Cherise Sinclair.

All three shorts were hot and entertaining and keeping with the western theme contained ropin' and ridin' and buckin' broncos.

A Good Sub Would by Sierra Cartwright

My favorite story in this antho.

It’s winner take all in a high stakes poker game. Place your bets and takes your chances and maybe win a win a pretty sub for the week - if she‘s up for the challenge!

Strong willed mediator in real life Shelby wants to be a good sub, she really does, and when she’s won in a bet by Dom Trevor Lawton - it’s going to be one, long intense week of pleasure and pain bending to this Dom’s will. Hot, hot HAWT!

Hunting Holly by Belinda McBride.

For the paranormal/shifter fan.

Holly’s been a Domme for a few months now at Dark Haven, but on this night she’s going to have to relinquish control.

Tex and Hunter have caught the scent of one of their own and the hunt is on. Holly can run and elude, but she can’t hide forever. Not that she really wants to. She enjoys leading these 2 important men in her life on a merry chase. Tex ain’t named Tex for no reason. The man knows how to wield a larieat to reel in this wayward filly. Tex the alpha, Hunter whose been through a lot with Holly and has been in love with her for what seems like forever and Holly - once the hunted and now caught between these 2 men/wolves. This one includes some 3-way action western style.

Welcome to the Dark Side by Cherise Sinclair

Virgil’s new to the Dom scene, he’s interested and intrigued with the lifestyle, but not real experienced at being a Dom or comfortable with all the scenes public and private. He’s conflicted with the thought of spanking, flogging or caning a sub - even if it’s what she wants and needs. His profession as a cop has a lot to do with his ambivalence towards this behavior but when he meets Summer at Dark Haven, he’s willing to put aside his feelings to test the waters at being her Dom. Summer’s just come off a really bad experience with a Dom and still has some scars to prove it. She’s very skittish about getting back into the lifestyle, but with Master Simon and Rona’s urging she agrees to give it another try at Dark Haven. But she’ll only commit to playing in public and then only with Doms she really knows. Virgil seems different and trustworthy and Summer takes a huge step by agreeing to play with him. While Welcome to the Dark Side seemed a bit tame by Sinclair’s standards, the story was still really good and had it’s fair share of hotness.

It's Cowboy night at Darkhaven. What will those naughty Cowboy's and Cowgirl's get up to?

A Good Sub Would - Sierra Cartwright (5 Stars)

Shelby has flown in especially to be topped by Master David at theme night at Darkhaven. A friend for years, Shelby enjoys being playing with the generous lawyer, but therein lies the problem; playing at submitting is all that Shelby does with David. Master Trevor is a legend amongst the subs. Known as “harsh, but fair”, every sub wants to be mastered by him and Shelby is no exception. After several unsatisfying liaisons, Trevor is bored with the lifestyle. Shelby catches his eye as soon as she saunters into the club, but after watching her half arsed attempts at submission, he is intrigued. Seizing the opportunity during a poker game, Master Trevor makes Master David put Shelby up as part of the stake. Of course, this wouldn’t be a good tale if Trevor didn’t win, and soon Shelby finds herself with a week-long vacation at Casa Trevor. Can she learn to submit to him in just a week? Or will this little foray into submission with a true Dom at the helm, prove that BDSM just isn’t for her? In his home, Trevor is King....will she be able to submit to his every little whim and fantasy and finally become a true submissive?

This story was a pleasant shock to me. After only partially enjoying Ms Cartwright’s first Darkhaven tale, I expected very little from this. What I got was a delicious tale of a bored Dom finding himself again, with a little help from a novice sub. I loved Shelby’s character. From her sassiness to her obvious floundering with some of the more challenging aspects of the lifestyle, she was a sub that I truly wanted to find peace. It was obvious that she was a true submissive, but it was just as obvious that David is not the man she needed to tame her. Trevor is a potent Dominant. Sexy as hell whilst being an incredibly demanding lover, he sure gives Shelby a few things to think about. He is attracted to her sass and naivety, but it isn’t long before he starts to crave her on an emotional level. They put each other through their paces, but with her innate need to please and his need to make her submit, they soon fall into a comfortable, and incredibly sexy, rhythm. I loved the banter that they had; Shelby never crossed the line into disobedience but it was nice to see Trevor obviously enjoy the fact that she wasn’t a mindless slave. The ending was fabulous and I hope we see these two again. As a word of caution there is a lot of spankings and floggings in this tale as Shelby requires a substantial amount of pain to get off! Anal sex and vibrators also get featured.

Hunting Holly - Belinda McBride (4 stars)

Master Xavier phones the Wolf Alpha Chase when he finds something of interest hiding in the club. Tex, Hunter and Kurt are the ones dispatched to DarkHaven on theme night to pick up the package. The "package" turns out to be a small boy who has been rescued from Abraxas, a test subject which tugs at all the men's heartstrings. A note left with the boy magically changes to become a warning about a mysterious girl in danger at the club. Holly has come to DarkHaven to play at being a Domme. After running from her feelings for Tex and Hunter, she finds that she needs the release that only the club can provide. When she senses the men enter the building, anticipation starts to build. As a dominant female, she needed the men to prove they were worthy of her by tracking her down and taming her. But the boys need to accept that only together will they be enough to Dominate such a strong female. Once Tex and Hunter realise that the female in trouble is Holly, they are determined to take her back to the pack. Losing her has been torturing them for months, and if they accept the challenge of proving their worthiness, there will be no turning back for any of them.

The addition of the werewolf stories into the DarkHaven anthology is just a weird notion to me. It’s the world that I loved from Cherise Sinclair’s Master of stories, and messing with such well loved characters (i.e. Simon and Jake) is just liable to rub me up the wrong way. For this review I’m going to try to forget that it is the same world, I’m sorry but I can’t be fair to the story if the only thing going through my head is that the whole concept p**ses me off! So onto the wolves. This story was actually a truly lovely ménage story. All three characters are fabulously well written and entertaining, so I actively wanted their HEA. Holly is a damaged wolf who has picked herself up and put the pieces back together with superglue. What she went through at the hands of Abraxas is horrific; she was treated worse than an animal and I hope and pray we see the whole lot of them suffer for what they do to the pack. Topping at the club is her way of releasing some demons, but she isn’t submissive. Hunter was one of the many “test-subjects” that was held with her. Mentally damaged because of the way he was forced to act whilst in his wolf form, he refuses to shift and exists as a shadow of his real self. Tex is the complete opposite of Hunter. Charming, breezy and sexy as sin, Tex has been the person that Holly could unwind with for months. Hunter was content to step back and allow them to be together, but only Holly knows that both of them are her mates. When they finally realise that they are destined to be together the fun and games commence and the scene where they team top her is AWESOME! I have to say that my favourite character in this story is Tex. He is the light that heals both Hunter and Holly and his roping skills made my palms sweaty. Again a little disclaimer for the spanking, restraints and anal play, but this is a BDSM ménage, so they are a given!

Welcome to the Darkside - Cherise Sinclair (5 stars)

Summer is still emotionally damaged from her negative experience during a party during the first anthology. Unable to trust Dom’s, she only plays with friends and never leaves the safety net of the club. When she finds herself alone in the club on Western night, she decides that the time may have come to branch out in the Dom department. After entering a sub roping competition, Master Xavier pairs her up with Virgil, a newbie Dom. Instant attraction flairs, and Virgil ends up playing with his newly caught sub. Virgil can’t come to terms with his Dominant nature. A cop by trade, he finds the very notion of causing pain to another human pain abhorrent. Unable to resolve the conflict between his need to protect, and his need to Dominate, he turns up to the club with Master Simon to sort out his true nature once and for all. Having his hands on Summer, and giving her the pain and pleasure that she needs, starts to allow Virgil to accept what he is. The evening with Virgil has similar therapeutic effects on Summer and, after the evening is over, she books herself into counciling to work through her trauma at the hands of a sadistic Dom. When she is offered the chance of seeing Virgil again at a BDSM party at Serenity lodge (the business of Jake and Logan from the Master of series), she can’t help but jump at the chance. Upon laying eyes upon each other again, it’s clear that it wasn’t a onetime deal between them. Problem is, Virgil doesn’t much like exhibitionism and likes the fact that Summer won’t be alone with him even less. Can Summer let go of her fears long enough to realise that Virgil is just as protective as he is Dominant? And will Virgil be able to reconcile with the fact that, if he wants to be with Summer, he will have to give her everything she needs, including the pain?

I LOVED THIS STORY! I was so excited when I heard that Virgil was getting a story because I loved him in Master of the Abyss. In this story, he is the most protective, loving Dom I think I’ve met in a Sinclair story. Please don’t misunderstand me; he is fricking dreamy as a Dom! I adored the way he tried to get Summer to come to terms with her traumas without ever belittling her fears. His protective nature just couldn’t come to terms with the fact that he needed to punish her. Someone I spoke to about it referred to him as a reluctant Dom, and I couldn’t have put it better myself. He was a Dom, but he couldn’t quite accept what that entailed. I’m glad that Summer was the focus of this story, what happened to her in book one was every subs nightmare; she put her trust in someone and they completely abused her. I never felt that Sinclair played down her fears, or tried to resolve them prematurely for the sake of the story. I felt it was incredibly well done! I loved their HEA and was rooting for them as soon as he roped her on the stage (there are some fabulous roping scenes in this book :D). I enjoyed that we also see the other characters from both the first anthology and the Master of series. Rhona and Simon have an active part in our HEA, as it takes a lot to convince Summer that Virgil is just a big kinky teddy bear. Logan, Rebecca, Jake, Kallie and Wyatt also appear and it’s nice to see them. I loved it and am rapidly beginning to like these characters just as much as the Shadowland ones. A fab read.

A review for The Romance Reviews.

DOMS OF DARK HAVEN 2: WESTERN NIGHT has three great stories by three fantastic authors who all returned back to Dark Haven for a western-themed party night.

A Good Sub Would... by Sierra Cartwright

Shelby has liked playing sub with her friend and sometimes Dom David when she feels like it. But at Dark Haven's Western Night, she can't help but wonder what it would be like with Master Trevor. His unyielding dominance is the stuff of fantasies, and she should know.

So when Master Trevor wins her for a week during a poker game, Shelby finds out just how submissive she is and really wants to be. However, she's not sure if she can last a whole week under Master Trevor's domination, but a good sub would.

I have such a thing for sassy subs. I love them. I think that their submission is that much more beautiful because it's more difficult for them to give into. Shelby is that kind of sub, but under Master Trevor's guidance, she really discovers so much about herself and what it truly means to submit.

Master Trevor is such an amazing Dom. He pushes Shelby's limits but never goes beyond what he thinks she can actually handle. He also really gets off on her bratty side, while appreciating her full submission even more. The two of them were perfect for each other.

Along with the super sizzling, highly erotic sex, bondage, and spanking, A GOOD SUB WOULD...was so hot, I was panting (and I'll admit pouting) at the end! It was definitely my favorite story of the three.

Hunting Holly by Belinda McBride

Holly left her wolf pack to find herself. She had been broken, but now she's stronger and is a Domme at Dark Haven. Imagine her surprise when the two men she loves, Tex and Hunter are in the club as well. She's as scared as she is elated, but she's finally ready for them.

Tex and Hunter were devastated when Holly left them, but now they've found her again and won't be letting her get away. If they have to tie her down and spank her, so be it, but they will be claiming their mate tonight.

I loved the characters in this story. Hunter and Holly have a tragic history together, and Tex is the newer man on the scene who helped to heal them. Holly knew that the two men were her mates but the men weren't aware. Watching them come together was quite magical. I love shifter matings because they are so primitive and elemental about the forming of the bond. It's quite beautiful.

The plot of the story was bit convoluted. I felt like I was missing a bit of the story. I read the first Doms of Dark Haven, but I still felt lost. I felt like the story would have been great with just the story of Holly, Hunter and Tex without the other elements of secret labs, mysterious children, and kidnapping. It just left me confused ultimately and took away from heart of the story.

However, I still loved reading about this ménage mating. I feel like there may be more of a story there between the three of them and hope to see more of them in the future.

Welcome to the Dark Side by Cherise Sinclair
Summer has been back in the BDSM scene after a very frightening experience with a very bad Dom about a year ago; but now she's smarter. She'll only scene at the BDSM club, Dark Haven, and only with Doms who are friends outside of the club. She's not going to make the same mistake twice.

Virgil can't believe he's at Dark Haven, but he's got to find out if he's really the pervert he thinks he is. Ever since he discovered BDSM, his dominant side has been drawn to it even though in his head he knows it's wrong. But when he meets the delicious sub, Summer, it doesn't feel wrong at all.

Summer has never reacted to a Dom like she does Virgil, and that scares her as much as it thrills her. But when they have a night together, they both know that one night is not enough. Summer will have to decide if she can let her traumatic past go or lose out of Virgil forever.

Cherise Sinclair is such a favorite of mine, so reading anything of hers is a joy. But I particularly loved this novella because of the closure it provided from another story, and the emotional investment I put into the characters.

The plot in this novella was what had me hooked. I remember Summer from the first Doms of Dark Haven book, and I always wondered what happened to her. And Virgil was quite the character in Master of the Abyss. Being able to watch the two of them get a happily ever after definitely drew me in.

The characters in this story were great. Summer and Virgil both have their issues and they help each other work through them, which I think solidifies their bond. The sex is extremely hot, and I must say that Virgil's inventiveness made him even more sexy. Gotta love a Dom who can improvise!

So, overall I give the whole anthology four stars. It's hard when you've got different stories and different authors to love everything, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading all of them. We got a bit of everything, ménage, paranormal romance, and of course BDSM--not to mention the great characters, the way each of the story was set in Dark Haven, and the sizzling eroticism. I for one had a blast reading this anthology, but it left me questioning hopefully: will there be a Doms of Dark Haven 3?

Three stories with Western Night theme at the club. Same as in the first anthology, all three at least start there and you see a scene from the previous story.

A Good sub Would… by Sierra Cartwright
In Doms of Dark Haven I didn't like the use of 'slut' in Sierra Cartwright's story and it's the same thing here. It starts with a friendly game of poker where Trevor wins a week with Shelby.

Hunting Holly by Belinda McBride
This time I knew it's a paranormal story, so there were no surprises. A missing she-wolf is found by her pack members at Dark Haven. They got a mysterious note saying she is in danger. After years of experiments and abuse in Abraxas labs, Holly decided she wants to take control of her own life which means she needs both Hunter and Tex.
While I understand Destiny's need to protect the women in the club, she was a bit annoying in this story. The third person talk which annoyed the doms in Shadowlands was annoying. Every time Holly or the two guys talked about her in the third person, it interrupted the flow of the story for me. At one point everything slowed more than I liked, but it picked up near the end.

Welcome to the Dark Side by Cherise Sinclair
Virgil almost died in Master of the Abyss. Now the Hunts introduced him to BDSM and he came to Dark Haven.

“My cousin fell in love with a dom, so I checked into it to see if I needed to kill him before they got married.”

Actually, he came to figure out if he really was a pervert (his thoughts). He expected the little test would end with him leaving disgusted.

Sets of chains dangled from a low rafter. Cages, spanking benches, sawhorses, bondage tables. Scene after scene. Throaty moans, high screams, whining, whimpering, and groaning. Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. All his cop instincts shouted for him to get his cuffs out and start arresting people.

Summer Aragon is the girl from the party in Simon Says: Mine who was saved by Rona. Since then she only played at the club and only with friends. I am not sorry for reading the first two, but Welcome to the Dark Side is the reason I picked up this book.

So my main complaint about Doms of Dark Haven was that all three stories were about inexperienced submissives who all meet experienced Doms who sweep them off their feet. That didn't make them bad, just very much the same.

These three stories are very, very different.

Shelby had been playing the part of a submissive for years. The problem was that she was only playing the part. Trevor was more than willing to get her to stop playing and make it real. I have complained before about the slave auction scenario - leave the club with someone you don't know. This one worked because she was already on vacation and even if she didn't know Trevor, there were plenty who were vouching for him. Now this did have one similarity I have noticed - all of Sierra's doms are really into a form of tpe. It could work but they are going to have to work some things out.

My concern about Holly was that she wasn't going to be ready to go back and kind of coerced into doing so. But that really wasn't the situation at all. She just needed Tex and Hunter to figure out what the three of them could have together. I loved when she led them on the merry chase around town.

If you read the Mountain Masters books in order, you know Virgil is Kallie's cousin in Master of the Abyss and Summer you soon learn is the girl at Simon's Christmas Party that Rona rescused from the psycho. Summer recover physically from what happened but not emotionally. Virgil is trying to figure out if hurting someone (as much as he enjoys it) violates his personal code of ethics. It could have been a recipe for disaster but the two of them stick it out and figure out how to make it work.

There was nothing cookie-cutter about these three and I thought each was an improvement.

I read only the novella by Cherise Sinclair in this one, for her Masters of the Mountain Series. This review is based upon that novella only.

I loved this story. It's brief, only 12 chapters, but you get alot of info on the main charcters Virgil, & Summer. These two fit together perfectly. There is not only a mutual affection between these two that you feel, but also passion, respect, and devotion.

How these two are brought together is quite believable, even a little amusing at times. But what keeps them together is even more interesting.

I have to say this story in comparison to the other 3 for this series, everything across the board was on point for me. The writing, the plot how it comes together. I love how Virgil & Summer related to one another on more of an emotional level rather than the physical one. Although the physical is very present, and very hot I might add, The emotion is what gives life to this story and in essence the physical chemistry.

Of course we see, Logan & Becca, Jake & Kallie (briefly) and Simon & Rona. But this one just felt different. Better. I think because the scope is a bit different, And the main characters seem to have a bit more depth to them. So although it's a bit brief it definitely keeps you intrigued, interested, & entertained. It's a great installment to this series and I recommend this read.

#1 A good Sub Would was good. The hero was a little too much for my liking and it had a little too much punishment for me. I would give it 3.5-4 stars.

#2 Hunting Holly was my least favorite and I had a hard time understanding what was going on because I haven't read any of her other books. I would give it 2.5-3 stars.

#3 Welcome to the Dark Side was my absolute favorite. I loved, loved, loved Virgil the reluctant Dom. He is such a perfect Master and the kind of man I would want to marry. Cherise Sinclair didn't disappoint and I would give this story 5++ stars. I just wish it was longer.

I want Master Xavier's story. He seems just so mysterious and edgy. I also want to know what's up with Destiny. I suspect that she has been really hurt and has a love/hate relationship with the club since she seems to be very protective of subs and hates Doms. What is her relationship with Master Xavier?

This is the second book in the Doms of Dark Haven anthology. Like the first, it's Sierra Cartwright, Belinda McBride and Cherise Sinclair sharing BDSM short fictions. I actually managed to read all three of the stories, even though paranormal shifter erotica isn't my cup of tea. The stories are well written and pretty realistic. If someone new to BDSM were to find the stories, they'd get a fairly realistic idea of what to expect. Again, as with the other, story progression is sped up, but at least there is a story and not just pure porn. There is a reason for everything and it all twists together into three fantastic stories. I am hoping there are more Dark Haven anthologies in the future.

A return to the Doms of Dark Haven <3
Sierra Cartwright´s A Good sub would - Shelby gets a chance to experience a more firm Dom when she´s lost in a game of poker. This turns out to be the week of her life. Could it become more?
Belinda McBride´s Hunting Holly - Holly left her pack a year ago, now Tex and Hunter finally catches up with her at Dark Haven, and she´s finally ready to submit.
Cherise Sinclair´s Welcome to the Dark Side - Summer got burned by a Dom who didn´t acknowledge her safeword, so now she keeps to the lightweights. But it´s not as fulfilling as she needs, and she´s now paired up with a Dom that knows what he wants.. And Virgil wants Summer.
Quick reads, Doms and submission, smut and fluff in a great combo. Love it!

A Good Sub Would...by Sierra Cartwright. good story. loved Master Trevor teaching Shelby how to be a sub. everything she was afraid to ask for and more.
Hunting Holly by Belinda McBride. another interesting story with shifters in Dark Haven. Holly, Tex and Hunter all together. Will we ever know if there is a spy in Dark Haven? hmmm.
Welcome to the Dark Side by Cherise Sinclair. I'm glad to see Summer back and get a story of her own to recover from her incident in Rona's story. It's been a year and she is a sub for Virgil. Is he a true dom or not? I'm so glad they are a match for each other. Nice HEA for them too.

Loved, loved, loved Virgil and Summer's story! It felt like its own little book and I was so happy with their character and love story development. I would give this one 4 stars.

I wasn't really into Sierra Cartwright's story. I didn't feel like those two characters connected on a deep level even though they were having hot BDSM scenes. I didn't feel like I got to know the male character as much as I could've and frankly, I thought he was a jerk most of the time. Eh. Maybe 2 stars for that one.

I did not read the third story.

4.5 Stars, A

Three stories by the same three authors who did the first anthology. Rated separately I'd give 4 starts to the Sierra Cartwright and Belinda McBride stories and 5 stars to the Cherise Sinclair story.

I really enjoyed the shapeshifter story presented by Belinda McBride and hope she writes more about the Truckee pack in the future.

Three well developed short stories revolving around a single locale. I usually dislike short stories, but this is an exception. Finely executed tales on a theme with subtle differences, including one paranormal offering. Worth the money and the time.

The final novella by Cherise Sinclair is one of the best stories I have read. The romance of the small town sheriff, the protection given to the lost and confused woman. My heart sighed reading this story.

So glad we got to read about Summer! The girl that was brutally mistreated at Simon's party. And she hooks up with the sweetest of Doms, Virgil. Who isn't really sure if he should be one. Though this was a short story it felt complete with no short cuts.

A Whipped Cream "BEST BOOK"

A Good Sub Would…By Sierra Cartwright

A most masterful, drop-dead-gorgeous and experienced Dom from Dark Haven, who’s a little jaded and in need of someone special to ‘shake up his world’, is about to have his most ardent desires fulfilled…

When Master Trevor wins the delectable, disobedient and ‘badly in need’ of proper training sub, with a winning hand of poker, he makes it his personal mission to educate Shelby. He’ll totally immerse her and show her exactly how a good sub should behave, push all the boundaries that have, until now, deemed her as one who merely dabbles in the lifestyle. They’ve only got a week, but much can happen in that time and the effect will leave them both changed and hungry for more, yet ambivalent of future possibilities together. In the meantime, both Master and sub are in for titillating, sublime ride to ecstasy!

Sierra Cartwright literally grabs a reader by the short and curly’s, unapologetically plunging one gasping and trembling, into the exotic and erotic world of BDSM. She’s a Goddess of the written word. A practiced virtuoso, able to arouse and beguile the attentions with ease.

Her characters, certainly wormed their way into my affections, delighting my imagination and keeping me right there with them on the edge, as they plunged recklessly into their adventure.

A sensual feast of erotic delights, that kept me glued to the pages! Hoping for the HEA, that invariably Ms. Cartwright delivers so well.

Fabulous work Ms Cartwright, I for one, am eagerly anticipating the next heady adventure!

Hunting Holly By Belinda McBride

When a runaway mate is discovered topping subs and exploring her inner Domme at Dark Haven, her Truckee beaus, Tex and Hunter, who’ve spent the last year searching for her, decide fair turnabout is essential.

And these two wolf-men are no playful pups and are only too happy, ready and willing to see the job done right. For tonight is far more than just a scene, cause when they get their hands on their sweet runaway Holly, she’ll be the one begging… for more.

Three hearts become one, with an explosive sexual tension ratcheted up to a new level of high; in a potent mix of red hot desire, erotic exploration and a fervent consummation and fulfillment.

Don’t ever let it be said that Ms. McBride is afraid to ‘mix it up,’ because this lady doesn’t know the meaning of the word coward. Fearless and Fabulous!! She shakes up the erotic romance genre, easily and with kick-ass style, tearing loose all the restraints and delving head-long into her world, where the paranormal, BDSM, ménage, the fantasy and fantastical, with real life heroes and a heroines meet to make ones heart soar.

Belinda McBride is gifted. She tells a love story with characters guaranteed to inflame the imagination and have pulse rates quickening. And I love that there’s always so much going on in the background in her stories: Vampires, other shifters, a mysterious child that just happened to materialize at Dark Haven, and always the constant threat from Abraxas, the mystery of the gene splicing, danger and kidnapping, murder and mayhem… I’m whining at the end, wishing it wasn’t over!

Ms. McBride is simply brilliant. Love this story! Bring on the next one please...

Welcome To The Dark Side by Cherise Sinclair

I so badly want to play with Cherise’s Doms…

Acknowledging his need to dominate a willing woman into submission is the reason why Virgil is at Dark Haven on Western Night. And a more perfect sub he couldn’t have wished for, when he first laid eyes on the luscious, Summer. After calf roping his little sub in, binding her firmly and carrying her off to leisurely enjoy his prize, he’s ready to push some mutual boundaries. Especially when she responds so sweetly to him…

But Summer had a bad experience the year before and she has definite Hard limits. Dark fears, that sometimes overwhelm her to the point where she’ll top from the bottom if she has to, just to stay in control, and only at Dark Haven, with others around to keep her safe.

Virgil might be new to being a Dom, but he’s no slouch. With a cop's cool instincts, a sure touch and a keen eye, he' quick to note what quickens her pulse rate and what gets her temperature rising. He’s aware of more than sex going on between them. But can he give her what she needs to move past her fears, and can she eventually let them go and accept whole-heartedly, all that he has to offer?

Cherise Sinclair is the hands-down Queen of BDSM tales in my book! They're always filled with the hottest BDSM scenes I could possibly imagine, unbridled heart-stopping passion and love, hurdles to conquer and life to get living; I don't think anyone does it better.

Virgil and Summer are just gorgeous. Characters I could ‘sink my teeth into,’ they seem so real! I found myself drawn in to their love story and felt for them on every step of their journey, as they struggled to figure it out and the way to move forward together. And even knowing they’ll get their HEA, it was no less thrilling for the telling. Engrossing and completely captivating from start to finish.

This story wrung me out, pulling me 'every which way' through the full gamut of emotions. I was however, left sated and limp as a cooked wet noodle on the floor… Wow, such a terrific story!

All three of these fabulous authors are “Masters of their craft.”

If like me, you like your erotic romance, ‘spiced-up’ with a little BDSM, then the stories in this anthology are ‘bound’ to please. And to think I actually thought they couldn’t get any better than they did with, Dom’s of Dark Haven Vol.1!

Filled with love, laughter, sensuous bliss and discovery. The stories here, reflect the very of best erotic romance, with a twist, has to offer. Divinely risqué, with all the drama, passion, joy and excitement we could hope for and always a HEA to die for!

Last but not least, thanks for the cameos Ladies! Loved the ‘peeps’ of our heroes and heroines, you wove into your tales from each others stories.

My thanks ladies. Enviable work, simply splendid!

Synopsis: "A Good sub Would... by Sierra Cartwright

Publisher's Note: All of the stories within this anthology contain explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: strong BDSM theme and elements (including/not limited to: bondage and spanking)."

My Review: This was definitely better than the Doms of Dark Haven 1 anthology. Though I honestly don't know why these had to be put together, each individual story could have easily been a short novella on it's own. I rather enjoyed the first story by Sierra Cartwright, I fell in love with the characters and honestly want read more about them. The second story, Hunting Holly, still just doesn't fit for me. Throwing a paranormal book in the mix when I am specifically reading a non-paranormal series just doesn't sit with me. I am sure if I read the series by McBride separately it wouldn't be an issue but I really don't like the mixing of the genres. That said, Hunting Holly sure did have a lot of steam, probably the steamiest of the three stories. Finally the last story is the one I wanted to read to continue the Mountain Masters series by Cherise Sinclair. I really enjoyed this story, I love that for a change the Dom was a little inexperienced in the scene, it was a refreshing change. Though he still has the instinct to push his sub. I found it different and interesting how instead of moving more into the scene, the characters in this story seemed to be moving more into the vanilla direction. A little fun in the bedroom but maybe not full play felt a little more to fit with normal lifestyles. Better set of stories than the previous one but still not to my taste when reading a series, I honestly really hope this is the last one I have to read to complete a series.

Doms of Dark Haven 2 was another good read, but again some of the anthologies were better than others. Firstly,

A Good Sub Would by Sierra Cartwright - My least favourite story in the book, just didn't seem to have a strong enough storyline for me, and for some reason, I didnt seem able to connect with the characters very well.

This is the story of Shelby who is frightened to truly submit and will only 'play' with a dom who is a long standing friend, however he is not giving her what she needs. At a poker evening one night at Dark Haven, Shelby is introduced to Master Trevor, where Shelby's friend Master David loses her in a poker game. He agrees, (with her permission) to her spending the week with Master Trevor, who feels he has a lot to teach Shelby and can fulfill her unmet needs. It is a fairly well written story, lots of sexy scenes, but just didn't really grab me as memorable. 2.5-3stars.

Hunting Holly by Belinda McBride - A very nice little menage story about Tex, Hunter and Holly, who are part of a werewolf pack. Holly has been missing for several months, and Hunter has been trying to track her. In order to overcome a bad experience, Holly had trained as a domme at Dark Haven, which is where Hunter and Tex eventually track her down. Tex know's however that she has an inner submissive nature needing to be nurtured, and Hunter needs guidance in domineering the woman who they both know is their mate.

It is a well written story, and picks up various threads from the first anthology (Dark Haven 1) introducing some new members of the wolf pack, and revealing a little more about the Abraxas and some back-story, which leaves the reader wanting to know more. There is plenty of steamy, erotic scenes, and I thought the menage twist was written very well clearly picking up the loving nature of the threesome rather than just the sex. I loved how they managed to begin to tame Holly's domme side and bring out her submissive qualities, and were learning to trust one another. It was easy to see how the relationships could progress in future stories, and the author left just enough of a hint at the end that there could be more to come. 3.5-4stars

Welcome to the Dark Side by Cherise Sinclair - The story of Virgil Masterson, a cop who has dominant feelings but is unsure whether he should follow a life into BDSM. He is a friend of the Hunt Brothers (who feature in Masters of the Mountain books), who suggest he spend time at Dark Haven under Master Xavier's guidance. Summer is a nervous submissive who only plays with selected 'softer' type doms who are friends of hers following a bad experience, however when her friend bales one night she wants to stay for Western Evening and decides to be brave and sign up for 'sub-roping'! She is paired with Virgil and they begin to learn about each other.

The one thing about this story I really hated was the name 'virgil'... for some reason all I kept imagining was a character from Thunderbirds LOL! Not sexy or manly at all ewwww! It was putting me off so much that in the end I just named him Vic and said that to myself everytime his name appeared LOL! Aside from the god awful name, I loved the character and thought he was so sweet but at the same time had a powerful presence about him that came across in his handling of Summer. He oozed sex appeal, was a real charmer and I liked that he seemed on a 'journey' as much as Summer was and they explored together. Since reading this I've read the Masters of the Mountain books, and I really love how all the bits of each story and the characters all fit in with each other; obviously a very well planned set of books! As always Cherise Sinclair did not disappoint with this anthology, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! 4-4.5stars I rounded up the overall rating to 4 stars.

Once again, I was completely shocked with how much I enjoyed all of these books! I can’t wait to start reading other books by these authors in the future!

A Good sub Would... by Sierra Cartwright
4 Paws
While this book started out as very predictable, I still enjoyed it quite a bit. I thought that the author did a great job with a story that it was kinda obvious what was going to happen, but still kept my attention to where I couldn’t wait to find out if I was right in what I thought was going to happen.
Trevor was an insanely strong character! It was so obvious right from the start that he was a strong man, but being able to read and find out more about him, it was insane. I really enjoyed his character because he was so well written and just an overall likeable character.
Shelby’s character was one that I was surprised at how much I enjoyed her throughout the book. I was sure that I wasn’t going to like her just from the way she was acting from the start, but she still grew on me throughout it all.
This story is one that follows along as Shelby learns what it’s like to be a real time sub, as opposed to just playing with her friends as one. It was a really good read, and I can’t wait to read more from this author in the future.

Hunting Holly by Belinda McBride
4 Paws
I feel with this story that I was missing a lot of the backstory in regards to Holly and Hunter. That is the big holdup for me as to why I didn’t rate it 5 stars because I was confused as to what had happened between them.
But besides that, watching as the relationship between Holly, Hunter, and Tex came around, it was great to see them all end up happy together. And for Tex to realize how big of an effect he had on both of them. I think out of all of them, my favorite character would be Tex because he was such a strong character, and he was able to help hold up both Holly and Hunter when they needed it the most.
There was still plenty of excitement that happened during this story, and it makes me really want to go and read more into this series!

Welcome to the Dark Side by Cherise Sinclair
4 Paws
I usually do love the stories that Ms. Sinclair has released in this series, as well as her other series; this one just didn’t really work for me as much as the other books did. I’m not really sure what it was about this story that was the drawback for me, but even taking that into consideration I did still enjoy it.
Summer is the character who we meet in Simon Says: Mine short in the previous anthology. I’m actually very glad that she was given her own story because I was left wondering about her after Simon Says: Mine ended. I do think that Ms. Sinclair did a really good job with Summer and her going back to Dark Haven after what happened to her. I just personally felt that after she met Virgil, she was willing to do things with him she wasn’t normally ok with. Don’t get me wrong, she did put up a fight with herself over it, but it just seemed to all work out to perfectly.
Now Virgil’s character was one that I feel a lot of people could connect with on a few levels. The back and forth between what he wants and what he thinks is normal is one that people deal with on a daily basis I’m sure. The only complaint that I had towards him was how he did keep going back and forth between being involved in the community, and not wanting to be part of it.
Overall though, I did enjoy the story, I am just left hoping that we will learn more about Virgil and Summer in the future. I really feel as though Ms. Sinclair could have written a full length story about these two characters.
