SEALs of Honor #1

Légion d’honneur: Mason (French)

Rate this book

I got to page 64 and COULD NOT READ ANOTHER WORD. Who doesn't love a SEAL romance right? I received as a recommend, the reviews were high and I thought okay, I'll give it a go. Apparently wrong definition of high there. Absurd doesn't really cut it. Sappy isn't strong enough and completely ridiculous still won't encompass this vacuous story. This is the stuff that discredits the romance genre. We have Navy SEALs, you know the best of the best, baddest of badasses, executing a rescue, danger is everywhere, bad guys anticipate every move, rescue chopper explodes within the first few chapters, and the male lead can't stop kissing the woman he just rescues, because she's so special, and the whole team just loves her and wants them to be together. They get ambushed over and over and never see it coming? Umm... Navy SEALs?? One SEALs gets killed during one such ambush and when its over, everyone is joking and laughing at the sassiness of the heroine, who's childish banter ends with - guess - another kiss. Dead SEALs still warm and bleeding and no one comments or is upset? It was beyond stupid. Dialogue was pretty much awful. Kudos to the author for getting this and the rest of the series published, but-- NO. THANKS.

A KOBO recommendation, " Mason" is book one in the SEALS of honor series. The promise of plenty of action, drama and romance is delivered, but the heroine always needs to be rescued and the SEALS never appear prepared for it.

This was an arc copy for an honest review.
This is a great Seal Team, friendly, supportive, efficient, deadly and instinctive of each others moves. They can read each other and have a way of signaling, communicating without words. Tesla is strong, determined, honest, loyal and loving. She is also extremely intelligent and keen to save military lives, even at the risk of her own. She's a fighter determined to do something to stop needless death like her brothers, and to keep up with this team of Seals and not let them down or make their job any harder than it needs to be. There is a lot going on in this story, it keeps you on the edge of your seat and often holding your breathe. The team take her into their hearts firstly because of the amazing stamina that she shows, but also the way she wont take any crap. Although this is a serious issue and some nasty stuff happens it does have a little bit of light heartedness at times which fits with these guys and her. It made it all the more enjoyable during reading when you find yourself having a little chuckle, it eases the tenseness of all that's going on and waiting to see what's going to happen next. There's definitely no getting bored or to relaxed, thinking oh good now we get the happy... def not plenty of twists and turns right till the end.

3.5 hot SEALS stars.

I'm a big fan of Dale Mayer and I've been reading the books out of order, in each book I'm so intrigued with other characters, so now I'm going to read in order.
This is the first book of Seals of Honor series. It's about Mason the leader. In this book the team got a mission to save and bring Tesla the genius tech back to base.
It started with actions and since then it never stop and I love it. There are some scenes that keep repeating that got me "OMG..AGAIN???!!!How???!!!" and there's also inappropriate moments and some unanswered questions, those things really bothering me.
But those camaraderie and the banters between the team and Tesla and the develop of the characters make me still enjoying this book.

As for characters, Love Tesla and Mason, although Tesla is really the star here, she's a fierce and strong girl. She's never give up and so loyal and will do anything to protect and save her country. She's may be a damsel in distress but she's sure know how to kick ass.
Tesla and Mason are a cute couple, they're making me laugh and put a big a smile on my face.

If you're looking military suspense romance, you might like this one

The first in a boxset, this story is filled with action,but.....i have a couple of issues with it.
I mean, these are SEALS,right? Do they really leave the person they rescue when the threat isn’t dealt with?
Leaving that said person to the same fate, over and over?

Tesla, the heroine,is smart and a tough cookie, but her getting back into trouble again and again grows old real quick.
Mason and his men have to rescue her most of the time, which would be totally unnecessary if they did their jobs right!
In short,not my story......

I liked it enough to continue the series but really doubting how her father ( a former SEAL) and a whole team of SEALs supposedly guarding her could let her continue to be abducted. Seriously, that was stretching it for any reality.

I am not ordinarily a romance reader, but sometimes I like to shake up my reading habits. Who could resist a Navy SEAL storyline? Well, in this case, I very much wish I had.

There are innumerable things I could quibble with, but I have four main ones that I'll address.

1. Let's just talk about the implausibility, the sheer absurdity of Mason and Tesla's first kiss. Picture this. You've been held captive by a thoroughly nefarious ruffian and his band of henchmen. You're not really sure why you're being held captive, but you have a 'sneaking' suspicion. Then, after countless hours being tied up, your muscles are quivering, every breath you take is exhausting and painful, someone shows up, unties you, takes your hand, and drags you out into the dark jungle. You don't know who he is or where you're going. Through the chaos and confusion, you determine that he's a Navy SEAL here to rescue you with his team. (The idea of this is very sexy, I'll grant you, but I think, given the circumstances, that my first thought would be about my well-being and how we were going to survive and NOT about how gorgeous and muscle-y said SEAL(s) are.) Left with no other recourse, you run behind your rescuer, taking only snatches of rest before reaching the extraction point where you meet the rest of the SEAL team. The helicopter comes and you board. You're in the air, meeting your rescuers for the first time. Things seem to be going much better then twenty minutes ago when you were held captive in a dank shed in the middle of nowhere. No questions are asked as to why you were kidnapped. You ask no questions either. You're just gob struck at the handsomeness of you rescuers (pardon me while I roll my eyes). Then the cockpit explodes and the helicopter starts to go down. Acting swiftly, you're pushed to the back of the helicopter, manhandled into a parachute (that you don't realize is a parachute), and then thrust out of the helicopter. You start screaming, because you're free falling, or at least that's what you think you're doing. And how does the SEAL, whose name you know (and nothing else); how does Mason get you to be quiet? He kisses you. It's so hot, you wrap your legs around him (eh... it's tough to even write this out). Then you realize that you're clipped to his harness and his parachute is open and you're perfectly safe.

Really? This whole sequence was completely unbelievable to me. Not only did I think it smacked of unprofessionalism from Mason's perspective, but I found Tesla's behavior trite and irrational. For a woman who possesses such enviable brains, she was awfully happy to just follow absurd trains of thought. She is not an active participant in her rescue. Never once does she ask what the plan really is or how they came to know she needed to be rescued. She possesses no curiosity in her thoughts as to how she got kidnapped in the first place. Supposedly what she's working on is all very hush-hush, yet someone found out about it. In one cursory thought, she assumes she's been betrayed by someone on her team. For a woman crafting such heavily guarded, top secret software, she displays a deplorable lack of curiosity as to the mole in her organization who has put not only her but the rest of her team at risk. AND when she does do something seemingly heroic (stepping in front of Mason when his life is threatened), it just made me want to laugh.

2. Punctuation and Grammar. That's really all I can say about the writing. It was in desperate need of an editor and proofreader.

3. Show, don't tell. This is a biggie for me. Great writing happens when I'm swept away by descriptions, not told what to think and feel. Don't tell me after the fact that Tesla's feet are all cut up because she didn't have appropriate shoes to run through the jungle; show me how broken bracken tore at the flimsy soles of her slip-in shoes, how rocks gouged at the bottoms of her feet as she ran, how branches lashed out at her in the dark and tore at her sweater, unraveling the yarn.

4. Dialogue. Honestly, this bothered me from the beginning. I just don't think a Navy SEAL team would be so gregarious. I think they'd be more in tune with one another, anticipating what needs to be done next. They are trained to operate as a unit. They've worked in perilous situations like this before. Furthermore, in the heat of battle, in the midst of the mission, they would not be joking around like it's all a lark. Sorry, but no. I wanted more serious professionalism from these men. It just felt a little too thrown together and disorganized to be the SEALs.

I didn't finish the book. I didn't even make it halfway. And, I'm sorry for it, because I never like to write a bad review.

You know what, I liked this book. There wasn’t really much to it but it was short and fun. Not to mention that I didn’t hate anything, in fact, I barely had any problems. I just wished that this woman wouldn’t get kidnapped so god-damned often. Besides that, the characters were alright, the plot was alright and it was over, yes you guessed it: alright.

Two people with a tenuous connection in common, go on to forge a bond so strong that nothing can separate them...and many will try.

Mason and his SEAL team are tasked with rescuing Tesla, a woman that is in high demand by those that want her work and her brain. See, Tesla, I love that name by the way and the irony of her being somewhat of an inventor herself, has developed something that will help save the lives of military members. This is an emotional project for her as she has recently lost her brother, Harry, a SEAL, and is still struggling with the loss.

Mason, while not having been on any missions with Harry, was a friend of his and remembers how much Harry loved and respected his sister. So much so, that Mason himself started falling a little for her, just from hearing Harry talk about her. But due to the man code of sisters being off limits, Mason kept his distance. Upon Harry's death, Mason contacted her, via letter, to offer his condolences, but never heard back from her. Yet, she's still on his mind.

During the rescue and after discovering who she is, Mason feels that pull to her growing stronger and it seems Tesla is feeling it herself. As problem after problem arises while getting Tesla to safety, Mason can't help but admire her strength and determination to not be a burden. (Mason isn't the only one on the team that's impressed. The guys decide to have some fun at Mason's expense and let him know if he doesn't claim her, one of them gladly will. LOL)

As they spend more time together, their connection continually grows and starts evolving into a deep love that neither have ever experienced before. While Mason and his team try to keep Tesla safe from numerous kidnapping attempts, and a successful one, Mason knows she's the one for him, yet he also fears his job may be a roadblock to their future.

Will Mason be able to keep Tesla safe until she unveils her project, Harry's Hope? Will Tesla take a chance on a future with the man she loves? Or will his dangerous job cause her to protect herself and miss out on a once in a lifetime kind of love? Will they ever discover who was behind the attacks on Tesla? Will the military recover from learning one of their own may have been responsible for all of it?

I can't wait for Hawk's story, book two in the series. I'm also looking forward to getting to know the rest of the guys and watching them all fall hard for their women.

On a side note, I will say, and this is and always has been my personal preference, I honestly could've done without the mentions of the men's previous and current sex lives...as in how many women Mason and the others have been with, there's always a willing woman when they want one, how between some of them they've been with hundreds of women, etc. I don't find that attractive at all. I'm not a fan of that type of characteristic in a hero. That's a turn off for me and makes me cringe for when I'll read their books and their future women potentially discovering or wondering how many women they've been with. I think the hero being with all of those women (mainly one night stands) in the past, can detract from the intimacy he'll have with the heroine. I will say, all things considered, these instances are fairly minimal in this story compared to some I've read. I am in no way a prude and love reading about sexy times and/or them being alluded to...between the hero and heroine. To me, and this just may be my hangup, it takes away from the romance of the couple and them starting their lives together. But again, that may just be me.

With that being said, I loved this book and will definitely continue to read the series and the author. She is one of my favorites after all, and while those aforementioned instances may have made me lose the flow for a very short time frame, I was easily able to recapture it as the plot is well thought out, the characters are real and likeable, the suspense is attention grabbing, the chemistry is hot and believable, and their feelings, for each other and the rest of the team, are heartfelt.

Mason is part of an elite SEAL team that takes on the dangerous jobs no one else wants to do – or can do, so he’s usually focused and dedicated until he rescues a woman he can’t have but can’t forget in this thrilling military romance.

Tesla developed a program to help save US soldiers’ lives but there are others out there that will stop at nothing to get their hands on it and Tesla and the readers can’t help but get pulled into all the danger that surrounds Tesla and with time running out, pressures build lots of exhilarating tension. The attraction between Tesla and Mason is sizzling with lots of sweet and spicy heat but the relationship has a few obstacles like the fact that she keeps disappearing and it’s his job to keep her safe. The characters are strong, compelling and demand reader’s attention as this elite SEAL Team tries to keep Tesla alive in this fast paced, smooth flowing plot full of suspense, action and romance.

The story starts off with excitement as Mason and his team stages a daring rescue and the action only continues to increase from there with bad guys constantly on their heels, deadly confrontations, betrayals and only sheer grit and determination keeping them alive. The scenes are well written and full of great details that make it easy for the reader to picture each and every scene with all of it being realistic enough that readers get an adrenaline rush right along with the characters.

Meeting this team of SEALS is one honor that I’m glad I didn’t miss because not only are they sexy, protective and deadly heroes but Tesla is one heroine that compliments Mason which really adds to the energetic feel of the story and I was held hostage by the story from the very first page and I can’t wait to read the rest of the teams books.

4 ½ STARS

I really liked this fast-paced story. It's got everything I want in a book - SEALs, action, romance and suspense.

Tesla had developed software that would help protect our troops. Her brother, Harry, was a SEAL who died as a result of an EID, and she didn't want others to suffer the same fate. Unfortunately, someone wanted the software, so they kidnapped Tesla to get it.

Mason and his team of SEALs were sent to rescue her not knowing who she was or that she was Harry's sister. He had heard about her many times and was half in love with her even though they'd never met.

We learn a lot about the characters making them easy to like. Tesla was a strong, intelligent woman who did go missing a lot but there wasn't anything she could do about that. Mason's a SEAL so what can I say about him? He's able to do just about anything (like a SEAL is supposed to) so he, and his team, save Tesla time and time again. He's also a big, handsome man so that helps us like him even more.

I enjoyed this book just as much the second time I read it and I'm still glad to have received it in exchange for an honest review.

I don't normally even read the blurb for books featuring naked torsos on the cover, but "SEALs" caught my attention, and it was free.

It's not a bad quick read. The characters are quite engaging, but the plot is very "Perils of Pauline". The heroine is rescued from one absurd kidnap attempt after another, getting, drugged, beaten up, injured, but still functioning enough to complete complex programming and deliver a presentation to a large audience. And she is always rescued in the nick of time by her team of "gorgeous" SEALs.

I gather the author is very prolific, and the book appears to have flowed straight from her keyboard to publication without having passed through the hands of an editor or proof reader as it is full of typos.

Okay for an undemanding holiday read, but I doubt I will pick up any others by this author.

I made it just past chapter 6. All the reviews seemed to love this book. I love a good military romance book but this one was just so cheesy I couldn't go on. Everytime Tesla opened her mouth I wanted to duct tape it for her. The whole beginning was so ridiculous with so much repetitve explanation that I felt like I was rereading parts. It's a DNF for me. I tried. Clearly I am not as strong and determined as Tesla because I couldn't go on.

I totally loved this book . I love seal books and this one defiantly keep me interested to the very end ... Mason a seal thru and thru has to go and find Tesla a computer programmer that has designed something to help save lives after her brother was killed . What she didn't expect was to be kidnapped. Mason and his team are on the job and what a job they do ... a must read

Woot! Love strong military heroes!

Wonderful writing with strong-minded, hot alpha Seals, determined to keep one smart, brave lady who's developed software to assist those who serve in military. Add in Loy's of bad guys who want that software, several kidnappings, danger and the 6 kickass Seal team members who keeps rescuing her and wants to make her a honorary seal. Loved story.

Okay so as my dad pointed out this book was free so my complaining should be to a minimum but I couldn't help getting upset a little bit with the writing and the plot line.

Okay first big problem of this story? The really strange connection Mason already seems to have to this girl because he heard a few stories. No offence but he's probably heard a dozen little sister stories from everyone that has one so I can't seem to figure out what made those ones special. I also can never figure out where they were and how they magically keep finding veichles but I'll talk more about that later I'm sure.

The second biggest problem is this program! It's very rare that I have seen an enemy group ever go after a program that just detects land mines so less soldiers die. Sure it could save lives on both sides but land mines aren't the major killer of soldiers right? Maybe I'm off base on that one but the program in all doesn't seem that important. Then she does her speech gets that information out and STILL gets kidnapped with the claims that it's her OTHER ideas that the buyer wants? WHAT?!? First off the other side projects were only brought up once and it was brought up multiple times before that that her main project getting out made the buyers hella nervous. You can't switch what they want her for that easy I mean they killed a bunch of people in there as well for this one main project you can't switch that last minute.

Third can we talk about how much this woman gets kidnapped??!?!? She's on a god damn military base 90% of the time when this happens! How?! And I'm sorry but how they portray Hawk in this book no way would they have one been able to catch him off guard and knock him out and two only knocked him out and given him a concussion and not killed him when they killed their own people no problem. They wouldn't have taken him to torture Tesla with and if they did they wouldn't then abandon that whole plan and leave a perfectly healthy woman and knock out deal on a boat to drown (insert eye roll). They went to all the trouble to kidnap and take them both but then was just like nah let's leave them behind on a sinking boat?? Did they sink it themselves? If they knew the money was in capturing the girl alive why would they EVER PURPOSEFULLY sink the boat? Anyways this girl is stolen off a military base SO MANY times and no one notices? Security wouldn't have been maxed out when they knew danger was a huge possibility once they got her home????? HOW?

Just so many holes! They beat her to a pulp but apparently she not only had the strength but could see well enough to jump on some guys back and strangle him? I mean I like that they made Tesla tough I did but she wasn't super human. She doesn't have magic healing powers or super human strength. There's no way she could have strangled a grown ass man even with surprise on her side with cracked ribs.

At her ceremony she points out all the men on the seal team giving their positions away which I'm surprised she can even do given that she couldn't even see the stairs how is she going to pick out men in the far off audience.

Sloppy writing is all I have to say so many loose ends and plot points that make no sense in how they occurred. Such as a girl that has been knocked out is not going to wake up last minute, see the man she loves about to get stabbed (her eyes are still swollen af and she just woke up disoriented) her reaction time even if she is amazing with guns would have been too slow and yet with all that she just steals a gun without the seal noticing and shoots the guy between the eyes? What none of the very trained men on the team could have seen that and shot him? It had to be the drugged out beaten woman who can't see?

Also how irritating is it that she is constantly blaming Mason for her being kidnapped? Idk all around just annoying very happy I got it for free. I like the male characters a whole lot but they were the only ones that made any sense.

This is the first book I have read of Dale Mayer and I have to say I Loved It!!!!! I am definitely going to look at reading some more of her work. Especially reading the rest of this series because I fell in love with all the Seals that rescued Telsa just like she did. I loved how the author had so much action packed into the rescue of Telsa from her kidnappers. My emotions ran deep with the story talking about how she lost her brother and how she didn't know that the Seals that rescued her knew him very well. Because Telsa loved her brother Harry so much and she is working on a program that would potentially save the lives of many Soldiers out in the battle fields. Even though Telsa is a bad ass software develooper, she showed the Seals that rescued her that was just as strong and bad ass as they were. She does however, develop feelings tor the leader of the group Mason. She begins to lean on him a lot and the more they are together the more her feelings develop for him. Mason feels real close to Telsa from the start because he was good friends with her brother and he had shared stories with Mason about her. You start falling in love with Mason as he feels the need to keep Telsa with him, but the guys in his Seal team keep teasing him about them wanting Telsa if he doesn't want her. It is really heart warming how they all grow to appreciated how tough she is in spite of all the terror her kidnappers put her through just trying to keep her after they keep kidnapping her. Even though time is running out Telsa never gives up on Mason and his team and knows that they will come get her. She just has to keep fighting, but does she have the strength to keep fighting? Will it be too late for her and Mason? I definitely recommend this book to anybody who loves a love story with a twist!!! No spoilers given. ARC free book given for an honest review.

Not impressed. Every time I started to like this book, something idiotic would happen. Slippery Daniel, the anti-hero, is gonna get got…but he doesn’t. And the third time (really???) the heroine, Tesla, gets kidnapped is an eyeroll. What? Again? OK. But the forth time? The story moved way over, from the implausible to the ridiculous.

As an aside, at Tesla’s third kidnapping the men guarding Tesla’s house were not part of the SEAL team and were, therefore, cannon fodder, eligible for elimination so, of course, they died. And not one person cared. Not a SEAL, not the heroine, not the commanders, no one.

This writer is inconsistent. Some of her books are the best I’ve ever read. I still remember (for instance) Ethan, the first book in her K9 Files series. I loved it and would like to read more in the series, but I do not want to pay for books that irritate me and when she does not write well, I am irritated because she has amazing skills. So…I have to wonder…what happens to her skills? Why is this book done so poorly and others reign supreme?

I am deeply unimpressed with the SEALs portrayed in this book. They are all over the place and pretty ineffectual. The eponymous Mason is just “eh” and Tesla is just a bit more notable.

In this book, the dialog is off. The characters are two-dimensional cardboard portrayals. The romance consists of inappropriate kissing which is laughable. The plot is childish. I did like the concept of Tesla’s invention, though…that’s a good thing. But, sadly, there is little else good.

Drat! I really wanted to like this book because I like this author. As of now, November 2021, there are 28 books in this series. Could it be that Ms Mayer is writing her books too quickly? I don’t know. I’m just disappointed and sad. This was a 2.5 star rating that I rounded up (instead of down).

It reads like a 2012 Wattpad reverse harem novel. Lots of spelling/punctuation errors and very cliche. It is an obvious self published story. I can’t believe I paid for this crap.
The damsel is constantly in distress and plays the “not like other girls” card. She was so annoying and I don’t even remember her name. The SEALS are casted as light hearted, care-free boys. People are constantly being killed by this Daniel character, who is never fully explained. We never get told who the buyers are, just a mysterious entity that goes by “the enemy.”
The author obviously never did any research. His characters are unbelievable. There are plenty of good, based on a true story/ memoir SEAL books out there to at least get the vibes correct.
His setting is inconsistent. There are no lakes near enough to the US/Mexico border to make the boat scene be plausible, considering the lake described would need to be the size of the Salt lakes or Great Lakes. The constant back and forth across the border is unlikely and a DESERT, not a forest!
The plot line of the kidnappings being an “inside job” was lame and the insider was barely mentioned.

It is decent fluff, and the sex scene was good, but very short and ill timed.

Action packed and a fast pace read. Written in dual perspectives of Tesla and Mason, it is a gripping tale of heroic rescues and battle camaraderie. Recommended for lovers of romance novels and GQ model-worthy male special force warriors. There's definitely the "smurfette" effect since all the male characters adore the only female character in the story, the difference is, the female character is no shrinking violet. Fun read!

I enjoy military romance books and have come to appreciate Dale Mayer's stories. I liked all the action here and the fact that Tesla is a tough heroine. I did think the number of kidnappings was excessive but it just made me wonder how they were going to find her this time. They did at least make the hero admit how much he wanted her.

I found a gold mine!

I was looking for a quick book to read and I had recently downloaded this one to my kindle. So I started to read it....and was hooked! I couldn’t put this book down. I had to finish it before I did anything else!

Lt. Mason Callister, part of an elite, 6 man, Special Operations Seal Team, is sent to find and rescue software developer, Tesla Landers who is developing new military tracking software for the Pentagon. She has been kidnapped by mercenaries hired to deliver her and her research to the terrorist enemy.

Mason and his team have found and rescued Tesla but are now on the run from an unknown number of terrorists pursuing them in the Mexican jungle. Despite the danger they are in, sparks fly between Mason and Tesla leaving no doubt that something special is going on.

In this cat and mouse game, not knowing who the enemy is, Tesla is unsafe no matter where she is. She can trust no one outside her family and the members of the hot, military SEALs. The few times that Tesla has been left alone, under guard, the enemy has found her and spirits her away.

Tesla is hoping that Mason finds her before something serious happens to her or worse, her software is stolen and the enemy has it to use against the U.S. military. Mason is pulling in every favor he has to help locate and rescue Tesla.

This story is full of suspense and danger, keeping you on the edge. Page after page keeps you guessing and anxious to find out more. The heat building between these two is exciting to say the least. Mason can’t hide his attraction to Tesla from his buddies who have no problem teasing him about whether he cares enough to keep her! I really enjoyed this book and the HEA!
