Richard Laymon was born in Chicago and grew up in California. He earned a BA in English Literature from Willamette University, Oregon and an MA from Loyola University, Los Angeles. He worked as a schoolteacher, a librarian, and a report writer for a law firm, and was the author of more than thirty acclaimed novels.
He also published more than sixty short stories in magazines such as Ellery Queen, Alfred Hitchcock, and Cavalier, and in anthologies including Modern Masters of Horror.
He died from a massive heart attack on February 14, 2001 (Valentine's Day).
Not bad for a 'book' that is only 26 (small) pages long. A very brief story of why a young lady is 'lonely', with a nice little twist. I really felt like this book could be linked to "Funland" as it plays into Laymon's hate of 'Trolls' yet again! Worth a read, but not worth the price tag these days!
Doreen is a lonely woman afraid of letting anyone get close to her. When young Ron meets her at a carnival he eventually finds out why she is so lonely.
Doreen is scared of getting close to people. She has a very good reason for that. Classic laymon story with a fun twist. The setting reminded me of parts of Funhouse.
