He died from a massive heart attack on February 14, 2001 (Valentine's Day).
Not a great one to be honest. Felt like a kids story. Girl makes up an illness... mum plays along with it... the end. 1.5 star read. - At least it was very short.
In 'Cardiac Arrest', Joyce and her parents are starting off their day with a nice chat over breakfast when they are interrupted by two robbers. With their lives at stake, it is only a matter of time before someone gets hurt. The question is - who? This short story was simple yet satisfying because certain characters behaved unexpectedly (in a good way).
I like it, nice little twist ending typical for his writing you should always expect the unexpected with him, but then I’m partial to anything that Richard Laymon writes - this is one of his short stories that he wrote for Fastback Mysteries, quick easy 30 min read.
Written by Richard Laymon for the Fastback Mystery young adult series, Cardiac Arrest witnesses an eventful morning at the home of Joyce Walther, "teen-age author of mystery stories." Fun and short.
A splatter-less Richard Laymon read. No brutal killings. No rapes. No naked women. No talk about big breasts, nipples, or rumps. Who would have thunk it?
The story of Joyce an 18yo mystery writing just hoping for a normal breakfast. Well breakfast gets very interesting when two robbers burst in. A nice little twist of a story.
