Martha Finley was a teacher and author of numerous works, the most well known being the 28 volume Elsie Dinsmore series which was published over a span of 38 years. Finley wrote many of her books under the pseudonym Martha Farquharson.
The Life of Faith books often tend to be a little unrealistically spiritual, but I enjoy them anyways. Not to say that people shouldn't live out there life totally for the Lord- they ABSOLUTELY should! But the way it is presented in the book makes it seem a little unrealistic to live that lifestyle, when what books like this should be doing is showing how it's possible.
That said - I've been enjoying this series. They are not Catholic, but they are Christian and I haven't run into any flagrant anti-Catholic issues.
I really liked this book, especially because it brought characters from the other Life of Faith series into the story. The annoying thing was that Elsie was so rich and just galavanted across the country and across Europe so lightheartedly that it was hard not to be jealous. So yeah. But otherwise it was really fun. I really liked Zoe, the new character. :)
“Sometimes we need to take a rest from wanting, even when all we want is good things for those we love. I don’t mean that we stop caring. But sometimes we need to sit back and simply breathe the pure air, and smell the sweetness of the fresh grass, and observe the people around us. To clear our minds of worry and care and simply listen to God.”
I love how Wealthy gets to influence each girl. Elsie and Violet spend a summer trip with her and of course Millie lived with her. The brining together of the cast is a delight. Of course, we need a flow chart to see all the connections 😂
Violet is growing up and learning wonderful lessons that are shaping her and leading her on a path that will change her life.
Violet is so amazing! Her story is not as enthralling as Elsie's or Millie's, but I love being able to relate to someone who "lived" so long ago and read her adventures of faith! This book in particular reveals the depth of Violet's character and is a very sweet story.
