In each revolution, there is a point, or several points, when the ruling class was confronted by the illegal acts of the revolutionists. In each case the ruling class responsible for such a defense proved signally unable to make adequate use of force, with military control ceasing to function. Also, often the moderates & idealists who served to foment the revolution were in time forced out by fanatics & extremists. And just as often those clamoring for liberty, equality & fraternity, ultimately lose out to those of a far more authoritarian bent.
