Fate has one last zinger in store for Barbara Allen. His name is Michael Stevens, he is a basketball millionaire, he's little more than half her age and he wants to spend the night! Does Barbara dare throw convention to the wind and enjoy her very own boy toy? It's a decision she'll need the help of her three best friends to make. But as the trio weighs in on whether Barbara should or shouldn't, they come up with an outrageous plan that will mean a life change for them all.
I read this book in a day. When I received this book from a friend I didn't know that it was part of a series. She sent me books 1 and 4. I found books 2 and 3 on Amazon. This series is great. I really enjoy reading about older couples finding romance. They are all 40 and over and finding love and also finding themselves in the process. I'm so glad to have the opportunity to read this series. Great job Ms. Donna!
We buddy read One Last Shot and Love Becomes Her as part of our March Smashness basketball week. The full discussion can be read at The Smut Report
Heat Factor: Just the highlights.
Character Chemistry: Barbara has better chemistry with Elizabeth than with Michael.
Plot: Four friends have major life upheavals and decide to open a spa together.
Overall: Two out of the three Smut Reporters DNFed.
What do you think is the most salient information a reader should know before getting Love Becomes Her? I: I read far enough to figure out what the pivotal plot point would be, and then it became clear that it was smut adjacent at best—I feel more confident calling this women’s lit—so I DNFed because I have more than enough books on my plate.
E: I also DNFed for similar reasons though I’m not sure I could tell you what the plot issue was. I really struggled with the fact that the supposed love interest was introduced one time for about four paragraphs in the 13 chapters that I read. And I didn’t love the head-hopping—the POV shifting did not work for me at all.
H: The salient information is that this is really a book about four women who are middle aged and going through a big transition in their life, so in that sense it is much more women’s lit. There is a love story but it is not central to the plot, such as it is. The romance part that’s good is: as a story of Barbara’s sexual awakening, the story is really well done.
This is the first novel I've read by Donna Hill. I thought the story itself was good, however it was more about the development of a men's spa Pause, the friendship of Barbara, Stephanie, Ann Marie and Elizabeth, the men in their lives and their family dramas. Although, the female characters were well-developed and interesting the novel was not about the love story of Michael and Barbara. Which considering the title 'Love Becomes Her' and the description on the back of the book was a little misleading and rather disappointing. The few romantic scenes between Michael and Barbara were beautifully written, but their just wasn't enough focus on the couples relationship to allow you to get caught up in their story. It was more of an empowering, uplifting tale about girlfriends banning together to help start a new chapter in their lives.
