I will start by recommending this to any lover of pugilism. There is a lot of detail about boxers and boxing spread out in the pages.

There are also rather a lot of typographical errors. There are dates that don't make sense. There are repeated facts. The format also means that it jumps around over the decades a lot rather than following any theme.

It is probably the best book of its type out there. It is flawed but informative.

A lot of work has gone into this, and there are a hell of a lot of facts and stats. John's done a great job compiling them and I found much of it interesting and useful, both for my uni work, and just learning about boxing in general. However, the random nature of the layout makes it a slog to read, there are partial duplicates, and towards the end of the book (in what I assume is the new bit for this 2nd edition) there are unfortunately a fair few typos and errors.
Overall, I'd definitely recommend it to get a solid base of knowledge in the sport, and to dip in and out of when you want to learn about certain aspects of the sweet science.
