Convinced she will never love again after a devastating tragedy, songwriter Rae Lindsay takes refuge in the only thing that brings her comfort: music. But when soulful Quinten Parker walks into her life, Rae suddenly finds her peaceful solitude threatened - along with her heart.
Awesome story of two heart-broken people trying to break through the unending grief of losing husbands, wives and young children. I loved the fact that both Quinten & Rae shared songwriting, composing, and performing in common. It was a positive way of casting off the Survivor's Guilt, if only for a little while. It takes a lot of courage to fight through the fire to make it through to the other side. So much easier to sink into the darkness.
I read this book twice and first time I was just going through the motions, the second time I sat up and paid attention. I actually rooted for Quinn to let go and let me, I was rooting for him and Rae to succeed and got a peek into Maxine's life (which is forever a treat). The entry of Vera, the love Maxine had for Taylor, the joy that Jamel and the patience and love of Rae all played a part in Q's rebirth.
Y'all Donna Hill is a fantastic Romance Author Let me tell you when I say this book was so good It had me In tears Ok let me tell you the T with out giving you any spoilers so the story Is about a men learning how to let go of the pass and learn to forgive the ones Who Hurt him It also talks about a woman learning to forgive herself and letting go of the things that happen In her life as well.this was one of my favorite Romance book I read so far this Year and I highly recommend It
DESTINY,FATE,AND KARMA ARE ALL THE THINGS I BELIEVE IN; SOMETIMES, LIFE CAN BRING ALL THREE TO YOU IN UNEXPECTED WAYS. QUINN AND RAE HAD TO FIND THEIR OWN WAY THROUGH THESE TO STRENGTHEN NOT ONLY THEMSELVES, BUT ALSO THEIR RELATIONSHIP.
Black love sounds like jazz music and boy did I miss the sound. This couple definitely came across as more real and authentic, than your typical contemporary romance relationship. The whole thing reminds me of black romantic comedies from the 80s-90s (especially the beginning). Because this story deals with a heavy subjects like death and loss, and their feeling everything so deeply, the relationship itself comes across as a little insta-lovey to me. True to life, sometimes, when it came to sharing their feelings, the info was trickling out from him like a leaky faucet and pouring from her like a waterfall. It was a bit too unbalanced at times. But I took a point off because it really felt like we were talking about the same things over and over. I took another point off because, while, the hero was a good man, I didn't think she should have dug her fingernails in to keep him. He was just too closed off and she really did hand feed him to love, and it was too much for me.
Rae Lindsay has been through the fire and then some with the loss and grief of her husband and daughter. She carried the burden of abandoning them for her career. She walked around with guilt as a badge of honor burying it in her music until she met Quinten Parker. I went back in my library and pulled this book out not knowing how great it really was. I didn't want to put down this well put together novel. Quinten Parker song writer, producer, father, son, brother, raised his sister an carried his family. Loss his mother of his child, loss his wife and carried the grief as a badge of honor. If you have truly never experienced the loss of a mother, father, child it is a different kind of grief. It takes years to truly get to the other side of the demons in your head. Loved, loved this work. Bravo Donna Hill.
Both Rae and Quinn had so mjch baggage to work through but especially him. She was just what she needed. I enjoyed all the other characters also who also had their part to play in helping Quinn become whole.
This book appears to be written from a place of looking back, so much of the content is so realistic that I couldn't really appreciate it. I ended up skipping some words because it forced me to draw upon my own emotions in dealing with the loss of a loved one.
This story of letting go of the past in order to move forward was what Quinn and Rae dealt with. I must admit that I found Quinn to be annoying and wouldn't have the patience Rae displayed. Hurt and pain are not so easily dealt with but it helps if the person along on your journey has a similar experience. 3.5 stars . Recommended but only to someone not grieving a loss of their own
