Part one of the Mountain Magik Series Melvin's Melons is the story of a twelve year old boy, named Melvin, who sets out to seek his fortune. The story is set in the Appalachian Mountains and is laced with folklore and fantasy. The book is unique in that it is a modern day fairy tale set in a factual setting. Melvin has adventures and meets mystical creatures. There is a glossary that defines Appalachian folk terms and dialect in a narrative form.
