A pretty good book on prayer. I honestly read the whole thing thinking it was a different Tommy Tenney (TF Tenney). Nevertheless, the author brings out good points and challenges the read to deeper and more consecrated prayer
A God chaser. I want to be one, one who prays "passionate prayers of pursuit." In this book, Tenney explains prayers of pursuit (desperation, repentance, hungry heart, wisdom and guidance, intercession, total surrender, inspired faith and divine declaration, struggle, adoration, emptying, and commitment). He gives scripture and contemporary examples of the prayers of God chasers, and includes powerful prayers for the reader to personalize.
It is my desire to be as quoted Ben Patterson says (page 18), "...I'm not into prayer, I am into God..."
Excellent book with practical advice and guidance to improve a Christian's prayer life. The author's series of God Chaser books were quite popular in Christian circles in the late 90's and early 00's but this is the first of the franchise that I have read and it left a deep impression on me.
I really sat back and found myself meditating my way through this book, backing up and rereading it several times. It made me think outside my body and deep within my soul to a whole new level. Loved this book. Will definitely read it again to challenge myself to become better at listening to the Holy Spirit.
Overall I liked this book. It was fairly sparse in terms of meaty nuggets of truth and inspirational admonitions of the faith that I like, but nevertheless they were there. It was an easy read.
Great book to begin your prayer journey and to understand the different types of prayer. This book also has excellent prayers to say if you don't know what to pray.
What a wonderful guide to prayer. I used this in my morning devotions. He draws examples and gives prayers from a variety of Christian leaders, from St. Francis to modern evangelicals.
Tenney says, "All that we do [in life] is energized, organized and authorized with power through the discipline and joy of prayer." In this book he overviews 11 different kinds of communication with God—each with its own chapter. The parts I liked best were quotes from Andrew Murray, Richard Foster and even Leonard Ravenhill peppered throughout its pages.
Started reading in April 2012, finished in August 2012. There were some good prayers in here, and some good thoughts, but I find I don't remember much about this book at all.
