Born a child of circumstance, Myra Danford’s life was supposed to read like a fairytale; instead it’s full of abuse, neglect and hard knocks. Myra’s life takes a dramatic turn when she earns a full scholarship to St. John’s University. Determined to make a name for herself, and with her best friend, Quanda by her side, Myra’s life is finally on the right track. She meets Milton Roberts, the man of her dreams. Myra is convinced that he is just the man to save her from her harsh life. Until…. Milton has his own demons to confront, and with the NFL draft on the line, Milton lures Myra in with promises of wealth, marriage, and a stable family life. Desperate, and on the run for her life, Myra becomes ensnared in a dark world of deceit, blackmail, betrayal, and murder that is filled with karmic consequences. All of the characters including Myra learn the hard way that karma always catches up to you.
As the story opens up Myra is buried alive in her own skin dreadfully trying to put things together in her mind, but she's unable to.
Back...back...back...and forth...
Myra Tranece Danford once extremely pampered by her parents. That would all cease to exist. Myra's mother would slowly dwindle into a drug addict causing her to neglect, and exploit her.
The pure act of kindness from neighbors would help Myra. Throughout all of the sadness Myra would maintain her GPA, and as a result she'd get a full scholarship to St. John. Myra had dreamt of having "The American Dream", earning a degree, career, and a beautiful house. Attaining it all because she'd worked hard, and not waiting on some man, unfortunately she saw first hand what the results of that would be.
Milton Roberts was the bum kid in the projects who got beat for any and everything. He lived with his grandmother Bertha, who openly resented everything about him.
An early run in with crime determined that Milton wasn't cut for that caliber of employment. Having to endure ongoing cruelty all of the rage, hate and anger he utilized on the field. With determination to escape his life, he earned a full scholarship to St. John to play football. Although St. John wasn't known as a football school, Milton made it the exception.
It's a hard knock life for us....
Myra wasn't searching for a guy, she didn't want to loose her self and wind up like her mother. Milton definitely wasn't looking to be involved; women were all ungrateful and stupid. Oddly enough they both found commonality in the other. Born in the same month, mothers abandoned them, determined to make it, along with haunting nightmares and secrets that neither want to surface.
With deep dark secrets, horrific nightmares, nights out and blackmail looming over them, Milton is prepared to save his career and future at ALL cost. With his behavior becoming more erratic, he tries to get a handle on his demons. Myra being affection starved has a low sense of self-worth which makes her easy prey for Milton. Is Myra built to last, or will she undoubtedly become the weakest link?
My gi-rlfriend is there through thick and thin, my gi-rlfriend is down for anything, my gi-rl friend...we should all be so lucky to have a "Quanda" to share our lives with.
Amaleka G. McCall sets it right off! This is a very electrifying street tale that will have you zigzagging between the past and present with your fingers anxiously waiting to get to the next page. Buttersweet revenge!
Myra Danforth is looking for the cloud with a silver lining and she thinks she may have found it. Growing up Myra had seen and done more than many adults as the only child of an addict that was willing to do anything for that next hit. When she's accepted to St. John's University, she feels that is her ticket to happiness.
Milton Roberts too has experienced some things no child (or adult) should. He was raised in a house full of mistreatment and disdain. The prospect of being picked up in the NFL draft is all he has to hold on to.
Two shattered souls. Two victims of abuse. Two aching hearts. One ulterior motive. One has taken all the hard knocks and only wants to be loved at any cost, while the other had bottled up those feelings and has a hardened heart and soul. Can karma rectify their situations?
A new voice in urban fiction has arisen. Amaleka artfully contrives a gritty tale of karma that keeps readers on edge until the end. I have to say Quanda, Myra's best friend, was my favorite character. Would love to read a full novel about her. Hint...hint...hint.

Reading this book was parallel to being on an emotional rollercoaster ride.
Imagine finally catching a break in life and screwing it up all because of a man. Well that's exactly what occurs when Myra meets Milton. Myra soon discovers that Milton's persona is that of a demonic creature and not a savior.
Myra: A Twisted Tale of Karma is an exceedingly satisfying read which enthralled me from start to finish. Beware, you'll find some vile characters lurking in the shadows.
I certainly believe it's worthy of 4.5 stars. I look forward to hearing more from the author shortly.
