Welcome to my author page! I am a mystery author who lives in North Carolina with my husband, two daughters, a crazy Doberman and a very large cat. The Lady Dragons of Brookville is my third novel and the first in a series titled The Lady Dragons of Brookville. Check back for updates on the progress of book two in the Lady Dragons of Brookville series.
It's been a long time since a book kept me up at night until I finished it. "Blind Vision" did just that.
In the interest of full disclosure, I will tell you that I knew nothing of this book until the author and I were in a collegial discussion about a completely different matter. After that discussion, I obtained the book because, frankly, I enjoy mysteries and I believe in supporting independent authors.
I am very glad that I did so, as you can tell from my rating and the "up all night" business.
Anyway, Peter Cole is a young blind man who moves out of his mother's home and into a boarding house. The neighborhood is not great, but it's within walking distances of his job as an EMS dispatcher.
Meanwhile, Detective Joe Carson has caught a case of what will turn out to be serial murders and is struggling to figure out how to stop the perpetrator.
Cole and Carson's paths cross when Cole discloses that he's having visions about the murders ... and thus begins the action.
As always with such stories, it is hard to write a review without delivering spoilers. Suffice it to say that Fritz has constructed a tight story with some interesting and believable characters. I did figure out the "whodunnit" a couple of chapters before the reveal, but I suspect that's a function of reading numerous mysteries. There are a few editorial issues specifically to do with punctuation, but otherwise an outstanding read.
I absolutely can't begin to describe how much I loved this book. It truly was one of the beast books I've ever read. I loved the story and the fantastic cast of characters. I wanted the story to never end. This is a definite must read book and I highly recommend it. I gave this book 5 stars but it deserved 25 stars. Read it soon.
A friend and co-worker wrote this book and it is her first novel so I couldn't wait to read it. I was not disappointed. The characters are unique and the story kept my attention throughout. Totally enjoyed it!
I have read many books of various sorts. This one was a bit different!!! Whew, if you are into the thriller type with a vicious serial killer involved. Well this is it. Add a touch of paranormal with a blind psychic. Yes that is what I wrote! Awesome read! Thank you
This was a 3.75 star for me. It really started slow and I found Peter, the blind psychic to be boring and wimpy. Well kudos to the author, but his developing into a feisty, independent detective/consultant drew me in and by the time he was calming bargaining with a gangbanger, I was engrossed and cheering for him. Nice cast of supporting characters though I though Jenny was not all that interesting a girlfriend and would have liked more about Joe. Also took off a little for the maniacal laughter of the villain which made him more cartoony that his crime and background deserved.
Was drawn in immediately by Peter, the blind character, who has second sight that comes out as he tangles with anyone who tries to stop him from reaching for all he can do. Also loved Joe Carson, the police detective. For a first book, Karen Fritz did a super job. Can't wait to see what she has in store for us next.
I chose this book because it's a of the ilk I enjoy. I was not disappointed in the least. The characters are well developed and flow together nicely. My only regret is the the villain was flushed out a bit early for me and much of the rest 's the story was a bit anticlimactic. Still, the plot is quite original and well worth the read. I recommend it.
"Blind Vision" will blow you away. Peter Cole, blinded in a car accident, has 'second sight' instead. He is such a great character, as is Detective Joe Carson -- what chance does a serial killer have? Great read. I'm looking forward to the author's next book.
