I tried reading this book at least five or six different times, sometimes leaving weeks or even a month between attempts. I made it about 40% through, but ultimately couldn’t bring myself to finish it.
I suspect this book is better suited to a younger audience, perhaps budding teenage readers. There is something interesting in following a child who is destined to become a king, learning how he and those around him fought for survival and how precarious every moment could be.
It just didn’t quite work for me as an adult reader. I’ll probably keep it for my kid to discover when he is older.
