Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. We are republishing these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions, using the original text and artwork.
I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. I saw the 2 volumes in a museum and was drawn to the title. Of its age. The writing is archaic, and the essays within do not fire the imagination as you might expect. Strewn with case studies of the 'Australian Aborigine' and anecdotal stories of "supernal" events, the writer makes anthropological observations and philosophical opinion of the events described. There are points of interest in each chapter, in particular those on ghosts, dreams and gods, but overall I was let down by an overwhelming feeling of colonialism and elitism from the author in regards to the subject matter.
