Was hoping this would be all about Babe Ruth and his tour of Japan in 1934, with a focus on Koshien. Instead, just one 12-page section touched specifically on Koshien, and most of that was pre-Bambino.
However, the content of this book was extremely detailed and fascinating: - the true genesis of pro ball in Japan - the first Hawaiian team to tour Japan - the first First Nations teams to tour Japan - baseball broadcasts (real and fictional) on vinyl - who hit the first home runs (in and outside the park) at Koshien Stadium - obscure pioneers of Japanese baseball who had no pictures in old reference books - the contributions of Lefty O’Doul to baseball in Japan - one of the first ever umpires in Japanese pro baseball
I’m not sure I’ll remember much of this book’s content but it was all fascinating and helped me appreciate the history of unheralded individuals who made a mark in their own ways.
