About the author
Colin Durrant
3 books2 followersColin was born and grew up in Rhodesia (Which became Zimbabwe in 1980). He worked for a large computer company in a technical role. However, with the steady decimation of Zimbabwe’s economy and currency, Colin was lucky enough to enter the UK in early 1999. Don’t worry; this wasn’t via a small boat.
Colin has a love of sport and started triathlon and cycle racing at the age of 15. He went on to represent Zimbabwe in triathlon at the junior level. He remains a keen athlete to this day, having raced several Ironman over the last few years. He still enjoys cycling, bodybuilding, and open-water swimming. Colin loves the challenge of swimming in freezing cold water during the winter months.
He always loved reading and writing, but this never blossomed while he was young. He was greatly inspired by Wilbur Smith, read every book he wrote, and even met him in Bristol (UK). Another hint to his love of writing surfaced while at school and training with his cycling buddies. Colin would write humorous accounts about their training sessions, and everyone who read them was thoroughly entertained.
Shortly after arriving in the UK, Colin set up his first computer support company. He has run several of these ever since. Colin has been in the cyber security arena since 1999, which he finds fascinating, leading him to write a book on educating non-technical people on cyber security threats. Since then, he has found a love of writing, and another book on cybersecurity is due to be released very soon.

Billion Dollar Hack by Colin Durrant is a fairly good book. It tells the story of a computer security expert working for a bank in New York. It starts with being called in to deal with a stolen identity and online credentials of a senior manager at the bank. They discover while dealing with this that the bank has been hacked for many months using this senior manager's and that of other bank personnel credentials. While dealing with this, there is a large scale hack of numerous computer systems around the world, but primarily in the U.S. The government pays a billion dollar ransom to stop the hack and starts a program with lucrative contracts to a number of firms with ties to the administration to help everyone get back up and running and increase online security from future hacks.
The expert from the bank while coordinating his initial response to the bank's hack with others around the world, makes contact with a group of hackers trying to gain information on the hack and who is behind it. This results in a series of attempts to kill him and others who are helping him or hiding him. The FBI is also searching for him. I will stop with the plot description here, not wanting to spoil the book ending.
This book could have been much better, if the story had been expanded to include story lines of what was going on inside the hacker gangs and their sponsors and more details within the journalist's organizations that he contacts to get out the information to the public on who is behind the hack. This is all going on in the background without much information on the delays, the attacks, motivations, etc.

Really, really great
The author has presented an amazing and exciting plot, which, along with a great cast of characters has provided a compelling look at the current Democratic regime
