A story about a girl named Azreen. She studies at London already for a few years and was going to take the last semester of her studies, but her sister's death make her get back home sooner than she would expected. Mysteries are surrounding her sister's death, with all the gossips and seeing of a "ghosly" like woman for several times. Azreen promised herself to investigate the cause of her sister's death without hesitation The ending was really mind blowing!

THis novel is amazing! it caught me reading the whole day. its totally a page-turner. i really love the way Lee Su Ann incorporated the legend of Mahsuri in the novel to guide us into thinking that this story might have something to do with Mahsuri, since the setting is also in Langkawi. Although this book is meant for students, I think people of all walks of life should read it. The language is really simple and understandable by students (i hope) and the story is totally awesome. I really hope my students would enjoy reading this novel.

Honestly the book had seemed to be an interesting read... Until I've gone to the part where the truth finally revealed itself. It was a little disconcerting, I guess, that the book ended they way it did.

It felt a little rushed for me, even though all the events could clearly lead everything up to that.

The settings of the book is an island near the famed Langkawi where we have our old legend of Mahsuri and her curse, whereas the dead sister of Azreen - well, her dead adoptive elder sister - was named Madhuri. It's a little ironic, actually when in the last few pages we found out that someone who was dear to her killed her (I'm not going to add any more spoilers here)...

Well, if you're interested in Malaysia's old ways (it's not very old, just my very much older cousins' generation or so... Well, maybe even my parents'.), then you're one lucky reader; there's not very much in it, but you can definitely see mentions of the old wooden houses that some of our grandparents used to live in.

As someone who read it when I was in Form 1, I was so anticipated for this book and the plot went very well until the resolution that left me like, "THAT IT IS?" and "JUST LIKE THAT?" I was expecting for something new but yeah i think 3 stars suited the book.

Azreen went back to Malaysia from London when she was informed of her sister, Madhuri's death. She tried to find out what actually happened to her sister who was rumoured to be murdered. Puan Normala, the village's gossip-monger claimed that Madhuri's blood was white and the whole village was cursed.

Okay. So here the thing. There wasn't really a lot of likeable characters in the book. I don't like Azreen because she was actually reluctant to leave London because her sister was DEAD, like that wasn't a big deal. And I hate Mohd Asraf from the very beginning. It doesn't help when he accidently killed the Old Lady, who was the only character I liked. He also had an affair with Madhuri, who was the second wife of the village headman (Ugh, how I hate polygamous) I don't like the father either, who was sort or an abuser, and, in the end, a killer.

Yes, Madhuri was killed by her own father when he saw she hugged Mohd Asraf in a rubber plantation. the white blood was actually latex spilled from the can they used to collect latex.

I think this revelation kind of make the whole story weird. Like, what about the tell-Madhuri-she's-in-danger whisper by Azreen's mother before she died? What about the rain and flood and sudden sickness spreading among the villagers? And if the father loved Madhuri so much, how could he have killed her, even in rage?

All in all, it was still okay and I feel like giving it three stars.

I read this book on purpose. Because I have to teach my students about it. I have to finish it first before I force them to read it word by word! This story is about typical Malaysian's attitude in a small village where they love to spread the rumors about others. They don't have a lot of thing to do but mind others' businesses. There are a lot of foreshadow and it made me wondering what are actually happen in that village. I kept questioning myself what would be the ending and at the end until the truth were out. When the writer reveals who the murderer is, I bet all readers do not expect that he is Azreen's Father. The story was twisted upside down. The one who loves you is the one who kills you are hard to digest! However, what goes around comes around.

Azreen takes time off from her studies in London, UK to return to her village in one of the lagendary islands of Langkawi, to mourn the loss of her older sister, Madhuri. Her sister's sudden death had made Azreen eager to know what was happen. The villager said that they had been cursed because Madhuri's blood was white. Azreen found out that actually, Madhuri is not really her sister. She had been in her family since Madhuri was a baby. After reading this book, it was a very sad, beautiful story. The author really describe the consequence of this story very well.

Well, I think that this book is a fair attempt for a crime and thriller book. I had to read it since it was part of the school syllabus.

I can say that the plot is quite alright having it slightly tied to the Mahsuri legend in a way. The murderer of the victim is typical, meaning the least expected ones. I blame watching crime and investigation series for that one.

The ending was a little too abrupt to me and it wasn't too smooth. It seemed a little rushed how the author ended the book. It's like she needed to add a little bit more to make the ending better.

I picked this up from my cousin, learning that it is part of the literature component for the last year of secondary school. Finished it in about a day and a bit.

I would praise Lee Su Ann's efforts in depicting what seems to be a typical malay drama. But that's just it, a typical malay drama. Was sorely disappointed by the lack of depth in themes, and the 2 dimensional characters. Rushed and unimpressionable ending, kind of predictable. Couldnt imagine what the class would discuss about.

To me, it just serves to entertain, not really to study.

Very sad story. A lot of confussions tho and it took that long to discover the truth about the murder, like at the last five pages of the book. Also it involves pontianak haha. :P In a bird's eye view, the story was like a combination of the lengendary story of Mahsuri and the classic Malay ghost story, Pontianak.

Pleasant read. But a little disappointed on how the ending turns out to be. Azreen lost almost every close members dearly to her heart but she learnt to forgive all the mistakes done.
