Mary is a lonely girl with no friends. Colin is a sick boy who can't get out of bed. But everything changes when they find each other - and the magic of The Secret Garden!
James Howe has written more than eighty books in the thirty-plus years he's been writing for young readers. It sometimes confuses people that the author of the humorous Bunnicula series also wrote the dark young adult novel, The Watcher, or such beginning reader series as Pinky and Rex and the E.B. White Read Aloud Award-winning Houndsley and Catina and its sequels. But from the beginning of his career (which came about somewhat by accident after asking himself what kind of vampire a rabbit might make), he has been most interested in letting his imagination take him in whatever direction it cared to. So far, his imagination has led him to picture books, such as I Wish I Were a Butterfly and Brontorina (about a dinosaur who dreams of being a ballerina), mysteries, poetry (in the upcoming Addie on the Inside), and fiction that deals with issues that matter deeply to him. He is especially proud of The Misfits, which inspired national No Name-Calling Week (www.nonamecallingweek.org) and its sequel Totally Joe. He does not know where his imagination will take him in the next thirty-plus years, but he is looking forward to finding out.
One of the best chapter book abridgments of The Secret Garden . I read this abridged version to my sister when she was too young for the original novel and thought it did an excellent job of capturing the characters and tone of the original story while making it more accessible to younger readers.
Short, but then again, it's a stepping stone book, so I should've expected it lmao. The characters really felt their age. I've never read the original before, but this book really makes me want to. I'm adding this to the list of books im reading to my future kids and grandkids and great-grandkids, and on goes the list.
Aku suka jalan ceritanya. So.. Be positive!
This book deserves more reviews! The Secret Garden is a true children's classic. A beautiful read that deals with themes like loss and friendship.
The characters are memorable. My personable favorite is Dickon. His cheerful personality is the perfect contrast to the troubled and (quite frankly) miserable Mary and Colin.
The Secret Garden is a magical book that shouldn't be overlooked.
I love this book i like how they find the key instead of some boring way like someone giving it to them I've loved this story since I was a kid im eleven and ive known of that movie since I was four. but if you like this movie or book like or read this comment on it please..............................
Mary, Dickon and Conil had been my childhood's favorite characters. I'd watched the cartoon when I was 10 and read (the Arabic-version book of 400 pages) when I was eight.
It brings the joyful memories back and the excitement I read it with this time, was as much as that when I was a child.
I've been wanting to read The Secret Garden again for a few years but didn't want to spend the time on it again yet, so I read this abridged version. It's missing some characters and events from what I can remember, but has the main story of it and it felt like I read the original again.
This is the abridged version (so shorter than the original) But delightfully done with wonderful illustrations. An uplifting story of kindness that dwells in each of us, if we listen closely enough.
