I’m N.P. Martin and I’m a lover of dark fantasy and horror. Writing stories about magick, the occult, monsters and kickass characters has always been my idea of a dream job, and these days, I get to live that dream. I have tried many things in my life (professional martial arts instructor, bouncer, plasterer, salesman…to name a few), but only the writing hat seems to fit. When I’m not writing, I’m spending time with my wife and daughters at our home in Northern Ireland.

This is a great book for drilling down the system that is recommended and utilized by all the "serious writers" who are able to produce book after book consistently. In a sea of information and choices that are available for new and novice authors, it is easy to get lost in the thick of thin things that happens when you think about writing, editing, rewriting, marketing, etc... because this craft has so many areas to cover, from getting your book started to published to marketing and promotion, this is where the NEED for a system is essential. In this book the author introduces the SPEED WRITE SYSTEM that elks you through from the very beginning: creating novel from using your imagination, to outlining, to the actual writing process. The system is solid and works; if you are one of those "failed writers" that just can't seem to get it together, or you feel overwhelmed with self-doubt, fear and anxiety every time you sit down in front of the blank page, this book will show you the path you need to get you from here to there.

Overall, the book is a quick read and has some useful suggestions that are worth taking a look at.

The reason I can't give this book a higher rating is because of grammar issues and typos/extra words. This book is also written in UK English instead of US English, which doesn't bother me, but the usage isn't consistent. Sometimes a word has a Z, other times it will have an S.

Of course, I do edit professionally so I'm trained to notice issues like these. It may not be a problem for other readers.

This book has gotten a lot of good reviews from some writers I know, and it was a short read, so I decided to go ahead and check it out.

I won't say it was a bad book. The basic ideas are nice and it's pretty good blanket advice.

That being said, it will never be one of my "go-to" books on writing.

There is nothing original here, and other books have covered the topic much, much better.

Be warned, this book is really short. But it doesn't feel like it should be any longer. It is a simple step-by-step method for producing the best work you can in the shortest time possible. There is nothing earth-shattering here, but I've gotten far less out of book ten times as long. If you're looking for a system to give you a framework to finally produce that book you've always wanted to write, give it a try. (It's only $2.99!) Recommended.

Short and sweet! And not forgetting AWESOME!!!!

Every writer struggling to write fast needs this book. I used to struggle to get to 5,000 words a week, but after reading this book on Sunday (and finishing it on Sunday - like I said, short and sweet), I've burned through 7,000 words (it's now Tuesday - no lie).

A godsend for someone who used to take 6-12 months to actually finish writing book!

Big Thanks!!!!

Great Advice on Getting on With the Job of Writing

This book offers a great system for writing complete works faster without sacrificing quality. It offers lessons that some of us have learned from experience but often fail to apply. Thanks for reminding us!

Enjoyed learning about his system. It basically encourages you to outline and do a lot of planning before hand. He puts a lot emphasis on being disciplined and treating the craft with respect. An interesting concept. I'll definitely try my hand at his system.

Not a comprehensive, in-depth opus on creative writing like Stephen King's "On Writing" or John Vorhaus' "The Comic Toolbox", but still a decent, worthwhile read for what it is.
