This is a great satire. It mostly focuses on the politics, and the emergency declared by Indira Gandhi and makes fun of it. It shows the absurdity of the politics, and the politicians in a satirical view. This book describe the political climate of 1960s and 1980s. How it is almost similar to what we are enduring currently. It is all riddled with corruption, incompetence, and no one is interested in making good policies. In the very first chapter author says that, during British Raj, they (rulers) were giving resources to rich people in England but now after independence, our politicians are giving resources to rich people in India. This was true then and now too. One or two chapters are little distant from politics which are fun to read. Second chapter though honestly I wasn't able to understand properly. I don't know if it was because I had fever at that time, but that Marathi very difficult to make sense. I may reread it sometime. Overall it was fun read. It gives some idea about the political climate of that time and some criticism by the author.
Great collection of essays of political satires. These are mostly directed towards the India and Maharashtra political scene during the emergency period and till 1980s. So the constraint to enjoy this book is to have been born in and around 1975. Once you get the connotations then this book is an exemplary satire. Fun read.
Excellent political satire. This book will be relevant only to those who witnessed the political scenario in Maharashtra of the 80s and a bit before that ( read emergency). P.L.D. has exploited his writing wit to the fullest in this book which a collection of newspaper articles. Anyone born in Maharashtra in early 70s and haven't read this book, you are missing out on a hearty nostalgic satirical humour. Good Read!!
