Born into a family of Russian aristocrats, Asya Galitzine's idyllic life is shattered by revolution, lost love, war, exile, and betrayal, in a saga of a woman whose fate parallels that of twentieth-century Russia

Grinding, searing, intoxicating and utterly riveting. The author has a talent for description. Asya is a wonderfully written work of authentic, historical fiction. I picked my copy of Asya up at a Book Stall - just one of those random finds. Tomorrow I'll be going to the book store to look for other books by Michael Ignatieff. For lovers of fantastical and yet well-researched historical (especially Russian) fiction - Asya will be a real treat. It has a Zhivago-ian feel to it....sort of. :)
This book found me - on the shelf of our holiday rental - and I just adored it. The story spans the entire 20thC - the life of a displaced aristocratic Russian woman. Men adore her and she by her heart and her head. A timeless woman not a woman of her time. Lovely.
A remarkable woman of Russian nobility faces life's challenges with resilience fortitude and love for those around her. An intricacy woven tale which spans the pre-revolutionary days of Russia through to the post soviet era.
