The airwaves in America are being used by armed militias, conspiracy theorists, survivalists, the religious right, white supremacists, neo-Nazis, and other radical groups to reach millions with their messages of hate and fear. Waves of Rancor examines the origin, nature, and impact of right-wing electronic media, including radio, television, cable, the internet, and even music CDs.
Good overview of the US far-right radio and web-propaganda. For today´s audience a time capsule for a simpler time, when Rush Limbaugh was the most known far-right propagandist. That is the most depressing part. Many believes that are examined in this book are now mainstream: white genocide, deep state and satanic pedophiles.
Many of the radio host presented in this book, i did not know previously, so i presume they are today mostly irrelevant. Only David Duke is today relevant. Worst of course is that the ideas persisted and are not repeated by the US president.
This book accurately predicted the power of the internet to disseminate far-right propaganda, but not social media that supercharged-it.
Three stars, for the mostly dry and repetitive presentation.
