Using the easily learned ""D-I-S-C"" system, Dr. Robert A. Rohm's Positive Personality Profiles helps readers understand themselves and others. Dr. Rohm's book will clearly describe key differences in basic personality types, give practical insights into how people respond, provide keys for understanding others, and explain methods for working with others.
I think everyone should read this book. Its right up there with The 5 Love Languages. It is a must read if you want to really understand the people you are around daily.
As someone who is an mbti-enthusiast, I was very interested in reading about this typology.
The book provided some thought-provoking new ideas and concepts, however (as the author himself often mentions) it is written by an I-dom type. It is IMHO very flashy and intriguing at the beginning but very soon runs out of substance and new/relevant things to tell. If the author took out the parts where he repeated the things he repeated in the previous chapter that repeated things mentioned in the first chapter... and removed all mentions about how he "suddenly understood everything"... 1/3 of the book would be left with enough quality substance. As it is, it was painful for me to finish the book and only one chapter (practical implementation of my type) was resonating with me.
Also, please... please do NOT be touchy-feely toward S-dom types (especially without their permission). I personally really, really DON'T enjoy it even if the author thinks it is something I should be enjoying.
Positive Personality Profiles is a short but incredibly insightful read that provides a deeper understanding of the DISC personality assessment. It’s a must-read after you’ve already taken the DISC test, as the book builds on the foundational knowledge and dives straight into the meaning behind each profile.
Dr. Rohm breaks down the strengths, weaknesses, motivations, and needs of each personality type, and goes even further by exploring how each profile shows up in different scenarios. What really stood out to me was his practical advice on how to effectively engage with each type—making this book especially useful for anyone in sales, leadership, or team-building roles.
This isn’t just theory—it’s an actionable tool. Whether you’re looking to understand yourself better or improve communication with clients and colleagues, this book is a fantastic resource. Clear, concise, and highly applicable—it’s a quick read that leaves a lasting impact.
I read this book for my work. We encourage out clients to use various assessments to understand themselves, their work and communication styles.
This book gives a great explanation of how to use the DISC results to understand how to communicate with team members better.
I highly recommend this book anyone who uses DISC as a tool. I believe many people are using DISC incorrectly and potentially relying on it to determine how to assign tasks within groups or even overlooking potential team members if used as part of an interview process.
I wish I was introduced to this book years ago. If every business required their employees to read this book, people would be much happier in the workplace (and overall). I'm looking forward to implementing the tools provided to be able to work better with all different types of personalities ad to have more solid relationships.
A decent book about different personalities and how the interact and work with each other. There are a lot of hook out there like this, and this one was detailed enough to be good, but not too detailed where it is good information for average intellect.
Powerful resource on discovering and understanding personalities. Super easy and basic read packed with such important information. This book will be a regular resource to reach for as I deal with staff and volunteers. (family too)
El libro muestra con muchos ejemplos sobre nuestra personalidad y cómo actuamos las diferentes personalidades a diferentes circunstancias. Altamente recomendado
Having always been a "seat of the pants" decision maker, this book gave me insight as to the why my personality leads me to make decisions the way I do.
I under control ~ optimistic, persuasive, excited, communicative, spontaneous, outgoing, expressive, involved, imaginative, warm/friendly
I out of control ~ unrealistic, manipulative, emotional, gossip, impulsive, unfocused, excitable, directionless, daydreaming, purposeless
I Types like ... exposure to people, lots of activity, making people happy, making people laugh, short-term projects, to be on the go, prestige, selling while they play
I Types ... can be "higher than a kite" or "lower than a skunk", have lots of friends, wrongly believe that talking and doing are synonymous, need self-discipline
I Types are ... fun to watch, great starters, poor finishers, likeable, prone to exaggerate, easily excitable
I Types don't like ... being ignored, being ridiculed, being isolated, doing repetitive tasks
I Types want you to be ... fun, responsive, stimulating, postive, upbeat, enthusiastic
This well-written book on personality types was useful because it included strategies for working with / leading the different types, especially as children. (It is based on the classic four types, for which the author gives better terms: Choleric = Dominant Sanguine = Influencing Melancholy = Cautious Phlegmatic = Supportive
These types are a combination of outgoing / reserved, and task / people oriented.
The book is written for a Christian audience. The author has an unusual interpretation of the verse from Proverbs that says, "Train a child in the way he should go." He insists that it means, "Raise the child in the way that is natural for that personality." The book uses many Biblical people as examples of personality types.
