Sent away to college in America, Evangeline swore she would never return to England. Anger loses its value when tragedy forces her home to assume ownership of the family's beloved Greco-Roman museum.
Placing a foolish, drunken kiss on a Greek statue in the museum's basement, Evangeline unknowingly frees a Spartan prince from an evil oracle's curse. Suddenly, her lonely life is invaded by the rakish man with knowing emerald green eyes who never eats or sleeps, and seems to know her every thought and feeling.
Falling in love is dangerous, especially when it's with a man who has already been claimed by the bitter oracle Demona. From the moment of her kiss, Evangeline is swept into Dorien's world of mystery, danger, and passion. The Oracle's fury only mounts as they unravel Demona's darkest secrets, but not before Demona finds out about their unborn half-breed immortal twins.
Demona uses her knowledge of the future to manipulate, but sometimes love has a will, and a heart...of its own.
Kristine Cheney is an award-winning author of paranormal and contemporary romance and an Arizona native. She's been married twenty-two years to her high school sweetheart, Brett, and is the mother of Taryn, Brett Tyler, and Zackary, and is Grammy to Parker, Ivy, and Evely'nn. A huge labrador lover, she is mom to yellow lab Magnus and to the very naughty (and huge) white Labra-doodle puppy Brody.
Hobbies include writing passionate love stories that involve chivalrous characters, dashing adventure, forked humor, and the ever-true good vs. evil dilemma. Her favorite place to relax is anywhere within close proximity to a beach or wooded lake. A huge history buff, she plans to one day make a trek across the US to get her fill of American wonder (with hubby, labs, and lap top in tow).
She loves a good hot cup of coffee with Creme Brulee liquid creamer and sugar. A maestro with a bag of frosting, Wilton cake decorating lessons only fueled her artistic fire. She's pretty darn awesome at creating a deluxe wedding, baby shower, or themed birthday cake that will make your toes curl.
Evangeline's actions towards Dorien were quite questionable. She didn't question his sudden appearance in her bed, after she had sworn off men (sex) for 9 years? The fact that he kept coming to her house, that she didn't know anything about him, yet had had sex with him? How did she not recognize him as her statue? Before I started reading the story, I was sure that she would know that the man she was with was her statue, but she didn't!
Also, how did she not realize she was pregnant for so long? There were so many signs, more than most books where the girl falls accidentally pregnant. I thought it was hilarious! I just realized Evangeline was a little TSTL. I think that's the first time I ever thought that about a heroine lol.
Also, maybe it was just me, but the sense of setting in the book wasn't too good. I felt like they kept on skipping around from place to place, and I was just like how did we get there already?
I wonder if the immortal man at the end is one of Dorien's men that was also turned into a statue.
I'm kind of mad no one warned me that this was a clean romance. At the doctor's office, Evangeline thinks to herself that she's had so much sex and that Dorien has amazing, better than human stamina, but we never even get to see this!! There was a built up of sexual tension and Dorien was described as super sexy, and then just a fade to black scene. I didn't even realize they had done it between the lines a little later on in the story. It was quite disappointing. Authors cannot just build up and then not deliver. I would have loved a sex scene for Dorien.
Where to start with this book, I think Kristine cheney is very imaginative and she has a gift for detail. I love her work.
The main female lead in this book is Evangeline /Evan. I loved her because she had a vulnerable Side to her, she made me think of a lost child looking for someone to love her. In the start of the book Evan was at her parents funeral, and oh my god what a way to start a book, right from the start I wanted to cry *wipes tears*, it was such a dramatic start, Evan wouldn’t of got through her hard time if it wasn’t for her best friend Taryn, now this is a girl I loved. I so wish she was my bestie because she was so funny and strong. Taryn ended up dragging Evan for a drink to help her relax and get over the sad time she had been having, so they go out to a local pub and Evan gets wasted. When she gets back from her night out, she decides to check out the tunnels. The tunnels run under ground to the museum her parents owned. There she sees a marble statue, she knows who the statue is, its Dorien – Prince of Sparta. Here Evan starts to feel low, not sure how to get the love she so desperately needs. For one foolish seconed she gets up on a chair and kisses the statue. The kiss ends up doing more then Evan ever imagined it would. After the kiss Ean has an accident and gets knocked out cold. Dorein –Prince of Sparta, he was betrayed by an oricle. Cursed into the marble statue, Evans kiss freed him from his cold prison of stone. But it all so does more then she could ever imagine. Dorien has to take Evan to safty after she hurts her self, he carries her back through the damp tunnels, she ends up getting wet and cold.Once in Evans bedroom Dorien has to find a way to warm Evan up, she’s turning blue because she is so cold… so he strips her out of her wet clothes until he reaches her panties and I thought the shock of seeing the panties was so funny because Sparta women didn’t wear something like that.lol. I loved the way this book was steamy with out the sex,. It made you use your mind to picture what you wanted to be happening. And sometimes I think this is better because it brings you closer to the characters. I think the love these two share is so buetiful , its something every girl wants..someone to take them away from everythin and love them no matter what...wow im so jealous lol.. Ok I better stop there before I tell you the rest of the story, just know that there is a big ending to this book, and I cant belive Kristine left it where she did….when it came to the end I was like NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!, how can it end there…I need more, I need to know what happens. so hope I get the next book soon so I can see what happens with the surprise.
This is a little note for Kristine. Kristine I loved this book chick. I think it was very well written, I loved the idea of the statue coming to life by the kiss. It reminded me of a male version of sleeping beauty . it was so romantic but steamy at the same time. but im going to tell you off for leaving it where you did. What a cliff hanger. Lol . I think you guys should go out and try this book..i think you will enjoy it..

I was so lucky to have won this book during a comp on facebook. Kristine Cheney is just amazing, she's always there for her readers for any questions. She's simply inspirational! When you read this book you can't help getting swept up in her amazing story.
When I started reading "Spartan Heart" I was blown away with the emotion that is portrayed in the first couple of chapters. The book starts off at Evangeline's parents funeral, such sadness I was brought to tears. After that I just couldn't put the book down. It captures you and won't let you go till the very end and even then you are wanting more. You are taken for a journey through a world of powerful romance full of magic and wonder. There are so many twists and turns it'll always keep you on your toes.
Dorien and Evangeline...well who wouldn't want to be in their situation?! Kristine has really captured the passion between them, I swear it could melt the butter off your knife! lol Dorien's just so dreamy...every womans fantasy man and Evangeline she's strong, caring and just wanted to be loved.
The secondary characters were all great, in their individual way. Demona is the typical crazy bady... It was great seeing a female play the bad guy....yay! *winks* Then there is her creepy minion Phebus, who just gives me the heebie jeebies. We also meet Eliza, such a loving and caring person. And finally Taryn... who is just awesome! I'd love to have her over for a cuppa anyday! *giggles* The way she is with Evan, she's loyal and funny as hell. But also like a big sister that would do anything to protect you.
The story begins with Evangeline left on her own to run a museum following the death of her parents and the incredible loneliness in her life. Even though the story starts off on a sad note it soon picks up.
Evangeline discovers a Greek statue one night when she comes back drunk after going out with her friend who has been trying to cheer her up. As she kisses the statue and wishes it was real, Dorien is somehow brought out of the frozen state he has endured for centuries after being cursed by the Oracle.
What happens next is one passion filled night and the next morning Evangeline wakes up with Dorien gone and with her coming to terms that she had a one-night stand. She can't remember where she met him and how they ended up in bed together but what she does remember is that he rocked her world.
The passion and devotion that Dorien felt for Evangeline was beautiful, but I found it strange that through out the book he would come and go and Evangeline would never question it. The next time she sees him, he is in her home and she doesn't seem concerned how he got in there. I just felt something was off because apparently she didn't remember anything about their meeting and in the weeks that go by she never ask questions about him such as what do you do for a living, where do you live, nothing. Just finding him sneaking into her home in the evenings to have some wild sex (now I wouldn't complain about that, but still it seems strange and off).
As the story progresses a past nemesis pops up set on destroying their relationship before it has a chance to really blossoming. The story ends on a cliffhanger that will have significant ramifications on Dorien and Evangeline's relationship.
Overall it was a fun, short read and Dorien was definitely a Greek god I would love to get my hands on, but it felt that there were a few pieces missing in the development in the relationship. I'm looking forward to reading the second book as I want to know what is going to happen next and to see more depth in the character developments.
Fantastic book! Very original story that keeps you on your toes and ends with a cliff hanger that has you dying to find out what happens next. The book is very raw and emotional. I finished parts one and two in a day and a half. It's addicting! The author has created characters that are lovable and believable. I can't wait for the next book in this saga!
Evangeline has flown back to England after nine years of absence to attend the funeral of both her parents whom where Murdered, to inherit their Museum-London's Greco-Roman Museum. In mourning Evangeline finds herself in the treasury room, sad and lonely to find herself besotted with A Spartan statue from 500 BC.. Then it started with a Kiss ....
Where do I began, I must say this is the first book I have read of Kristine's and I was absolutely besotted. Spartan Heart was filled with heartfelt emotions, romance and love that anyone of us would search till the end of the earth to find. The romance between Evangeline and Dorien was sensual, magical and mesmerizing- Angelic if you may call it !!!! The electricity between the both of them could cause thunder and lightening and cause any match to light from sheer heat. I found myself giggling at certain parts, grinning from ear to ear and totally and utterly in love with the characters.
Dorien is any girls dream, magnificently sculptured, dreamy, hawt !!!! and romantic and his old ways shine through giving him that air that would make any girl giggle and knees wobble. His innocence with the new world was refreshing and quite entertaining. His love and lust for Evan, is shown throughout this book, it makes your toes curl and your eyelashes flutter and your heart skip a beat.. ** To be in love **
Evangeline, is a strong and caring person, and determined to make her dead parents proud and live on with their museum, all she has ever wanted is just to be loved. I enjoyed her character , she seemed very realistic and genuine.
The story starts where Evangeline's both parents are murdered, she is coming to terms with the guilt and the grief that comes with the situation. I found myself, able to relate to this, her emotions, raw and heartfelt and completely haywire, she is finding it hard to cope, her nine year absence adding to her guilt. I found this very sad and felt myself in her shoes, feeling her pain of loosing a loved one.
We are left wandering who murdered her parents and why? Is Evangeline safe, and who really is this stranger that has bestowed his love for Evan?
Kristine 's descriptions are very unique almost like poetry , flowing very fluently and every emotion is felt and well envisaged and put forward. Her descriptions are that realistic I could even envisage, Dorien in his attire for the ball ** wink wink ** and Evangeline in her beautiful dress. ** so jealous **
Taryn is Evans best friend- a friend anyone could ever want, filled with love, laughter and happiness, her love for Evan shines through and throughout this book, with a friend like that by your side I'm sure Evan will get through all her good and bad times to comes . * I can see Taryn being their till the very end .
I enjoyed all the secondary characters even Tommy I had a soft spot for, I liked his timid but forthcoming character. The evil The wicked Demona from Dorien's past, brings about a different twist to the storyline, her anger topped by not being able to get what she has wanted her entire life, to be loved by Dorien. Inflicts pain where she fills fit and is determined right or wrong to get the man she has always loved no matter what. She comes across a nasty-self centred bitch,, but will surely keep us readers on the edge of our seats !!!
All the characters blended in well with the story, making it an enjoyable read filled with murder, love, lust, twists and turns = was almost like being on a roller coaster, till the end !!!! Chapters all flowed fluently, storyline never a dull moment, or pit stop, it was full on till the end. A read that will have you flipping the pages just to get to ..
THE END.....
** I gasped oh no !!!!! flicked through my reader to see what was yet to come ** My heart slowed down and then realized I have only to wait till April 5th ... ** If you want a read to capture your heart, your interest and keep you intrigued till the end SPARTAN HEART is for you !!!!
“The finality of unquenched pain imprinted on her soul. Fearing the brink of collapse, she placed her hand on his chest, sobbing aloud.”(chapter 1)
Evangeline's return to London after nine long years in America is shrouded in bereavement. The sudden demise of her parents under mysterious circumstances raises questions in a way that leaves Evangeline guilt ridden for being absent for a long time. As the only heir to the family legacy of London's Greco-Roman Museum, Evangeline prepares to take over from where her parents left. Still in mourning and extremely forlorn, she wanders into the treasure recovery room of the museum one night, and her life is never the same again.
A 500 BC Spartan prince is trapped within the cold hard exterior of a breathtakingly beautiful marble statue which now stands in the treasure recovery room of the museum as one of the many valuable treasures. Caged within the statue owing to an age old curse, Dorien has been transformed into an immortal, endowed with all the powers that comprises such a being. A kiss from a heavily intoxicated beauty who, attracted by his statued masculinity releases him from his marble bondage transforming him into a living breathing being. Engulfed by a wild tantalizing chemistry, Dorien and Evangeline immediately fall in love spearheading into an incandescent physical affair. But there is much more to prince Dorien than his magnificently sculpted body, his towering height, extraordinary strength and his ability to read minds. For, he comes from an era of oracles, curses and witches who leave no stone unturned in following him wherever he goes.
Linked by providence and fired by the power of intimacy, Dorien and Evangeline prepare to save the most beautiful thing they have discovered. True love. Will they succeed? Is there a secret Evangeline is keeping from Dorien? Will the hand of evil tear them apart forever?
Spartan Heart is a brilliant romantic saga written by debut author Kristine Cheney, that promises to convey you into a world of powerful romance and magic. I picked this book up because I was taken aback by Kristine's friendliness and warmth. I do not know her personally nor have I been formally introduced to her but we follow the same book clubs like Book Lover 1989 and Book Reader Addicts on facebook and I was given the fine opportunity to be one of her friends on facebook. Filled by the curiosity to read the work of such a genuinely empathetic writer who takes a keen interest in her readers, I started the book as soon as I bought it, and at once got catapulted into this extremely fast paced bewitching saga that has all the ingredients to make a bestseller. I was enamoured by Cheney's descriptive language, very well crafted story and her ability to tantalize the readers with remarkable twists.
The protagonists Evangeline and Dorien are both irresistibly sensual. They not only possess attractive physical traits, they are incredibly sensuous together and the reader undoubtedly feels the overtones of such passionate chemistry between them. The secondary characters are distinct and convincing. Although I wish Taryn had more to do in the story as Evangeline's best friend. Phebus' repugnant character matches well with his deformity and his hideousness with not a single redeeming quality. Demona 's nefarious nature reminds one of Neferet, the evil high priestess from House of Night Series. A racy page turner that is bound to keep its readers fascinated, captivated, intrigued and roused. My due congratulations to Kristine Cheney on her sensational debut.
' The tender swipe of her moist cheek brushed glistening tears against his lips. Imagining he was real, she kissed him. Her lips lingered in passion over his cold hard mouth. Releasing a breath, her seeking tongue licked and traced his bottom lip. Tasking salt of her tears, pink fingernails dug into loose curls made of stone. “Please! Won't you love me back?”' (chapter 3)
Spartan Heart Part 1 was a great quick easy read. It had a wonderful recipe, romance, utterly gorgeous male lead, wonderful reliable bff and a gorgeous female lead. Throw in a villain or 2 and an ex boyfriend with the worst timing and you have Spartan Heart.
Evangeline/Evan , heir to the London Greco-Roman History Museum has just buried both her murdered parents. Taryn her bff has decided a pint or 2 down at the Kingston Pub is what Evan needs. Evan has quaffed several pints of Ale and is feeling a tad tiddly. Taryn decides it’s time to take Evan, home . Evan decides she’s up for a bit of a wander through the secret underground passages taking her to the Treasury Recovery Room.
She uncovers a statue of a Prince of Sparta and pops herself up so she can wrap her arms around him and give him a smooch, as you do when you have had a few pints too many. Wow!! some, smooch....it’s enough to bring Dorieus/Dorien back from his cursed stone life and into the arms of Evan. Evan’s passed out so she has no idea her Dorien is a Sparta Prince.
I loved being in Dorien’s head and seeing his awakening through his eyes and the beautiful woman in his arms. What is a Prince to do? Well I know what he did do....* waggles eyebrows*
I liked that Kristine wrote, Dorien’s character was able to smell, see, read minds when he was in his cursed state. It allowed for him to slide into modern London with the help of Tommy ( I loved trustworthy, loyal Tommy) with relative ease. There were some funny moments.
Dorien has been written so utterly gorgeously. He is every girls dream guy without being corny and cliché.
Oh, the Ball scene, be still my heart, Dorien, in his Spartan Uniform. I dare anybody to tell me that’s been done before in a book. Like seriously, how beautiful would he have looked? Evan and Dorien are the most gorgeous couple. I loved Taryn’s response when she was introduced to Dorien. I think we would all have been the same, lol!!!
Now love isn’t meant to be this simple, not in books anyway. There is going to be a villain or 2 trying to cause havoc and separate these two lovebirds who literally were made for each other.
Enter Phebus and Demona. Demona the Oracle ,was a bit peeved at Dorieus, waayyyy back when, so he was given the Nectar of Ambrosia and turned to stone...waaayyy back when. Now he is running around all happy with Evan, Demona isn’t a happy Oracle. So the story starts to take a turn.
Kristine wrote the love scenes with more the reader filling in the blanks, but the build up was rather fan worthy ( fans onself) also filling in the blanks was a bit of fun too...lol!!
Now the ending is one that will have every reader I would say a tad NooooOOOooOOoooo!!! And possibly AAaaaAAgggGGGGhhhHHHH!! as this is a Part 1 and Part 2 story you get the inevitable ‘To Be Continued....’ at the worst place..loL!!! Like seriously Kristine not there!!! So I just have to go and get Part 2 as it just simply can’t end there!!!!!
I loved this book because it made me smile, it was an easy read and it had me totally in love with Dorieus/Dorien. I am now off to find Spartan Heart Part 2 and continue on with the story of beautiful Dorien and Evan and............

Summary : After nine years, death brought her back home. Her parent's death questionable, as any murder would be, coupled with the guilt for the occurrences before they died, Evangeline keeps to herself after the funeral until her quirky and outrageous best friend talks her into a night out on the town. After some drinks to drown out the pain, guilt, and loneliness she goes home and embarks on an adventure. Entering the secret tunnel that her dad only ever told her bout that would lead to the treasure recovery room that has some of the most valuable relics. One klutzy moment lead her to gaze upon what she considered must be the most valuable relic there, the statue of a Spartan that seemed to capture her interest with its beauty. In a drunken moment, she places a kiss upon the statue that she felt drawn to and it comes to life. Dorien, the Spartan that was released from his statue state by a chance kiss, is drawn to this woman as never before. Feeling a threat of the parents murderer now aimed at Evangeline the love of his life Dorien vows to protect her no matter the cost.
My Thoughts: Kristine Cheney has you turning the page and wanting the next installment of the saga as soon as you finish. Her writing has you sharing the sorrow, passion, and rage while reading. You have it all in the first part of the saga. It comes together so beautifully and leaves you with a cliffhanger of a ending and reaching for Spartans Heart Part Two.
I was so lucky to find there book the author put a review on my wall and after reading the 5 star review i knew i had to read.
The first chapter or two you come to understand the main charter and her life it was well written and interesting she is a charter that you can’t help but like. The book got exciting almost at once the story had so much to it from loss, love passion, action it had everything that i look for in a book it was simply breathtaking. I felt like i was a part of the book and i loved every minute. I normally try and pick out some bits i don’t like but i can honestly say there was nothing about the book it did not like. Oh my god the ending i want to scream i so need the next book im in pain here.
Evangeline: even with the life she has i found that while she is sometime emotional she is also strong and very likeable she can be happy go lucky she could also be level headed.
Dorien: what can i say about this charter without sounding like a sex mad teen but i LOVED him he was everything a person could want in a man and i just wanted to rub evan’s name out the book and put me own in her place so i could have my own peace of dorien (im sorry i can’t help it) he was strong but soft all at the same time. I would give Dorien 5 star all on his own. (Makes dreamy face).

I would recommend this book to every book lover i know
I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised - I really loved this story! I was lucky enough to win this e-book in a contest that the author was having. I thought the story sounded really good, and I wasn't wrong! I absolutely adore love stories pairing a human and an immortal together. The book starts off with Evangeline at the funeral of her parents, who were murdered. Evangeline has a lot of guilt because she hasn't been around for the past 9 years. The emotions in this book are well written, it's like you can feel what the characters are going through.
After placing a drunken kiss on a statue, Evangeline releases Dorien from his curse. There is immediate chemistry - it's swoon-worthy really. There's a mix of so much passion and sweetness, it's perfect. Dorien is the perfect guy - well, next to my husband of course. He has the Greek god thing going on, along with being sweet, tough, gentle, devoted, protective, etc... He will have you swooning. What I loved, was the fact that Dorien is from a completely different era. The way he views things in the present day is hilarious!
The end of the book has a big cliff-hanger. It's very frustrating, but luckily the second part is already out! I can't wait until I get a chance to read it. If you are a fan of sweet and steamy romances - run out and buy this quick!
Dorien was trapped in a statue by an evil witch called Demona. One evening Evangeline who is distraught finds the statue and is immediately attracted to it, in a fit of delirium she kisses it and Dorien is released from the curse. Evangeline and Dorien fall in love, but there is so much more to the story then just that. Read it to find out! This book is tantalizing and enthralling. The beginning is emotional and fills you with the same emotion that you are reading. You know it's great writing when you feel what the character is feeling. I like the characters and their personalities, at first Evangeline is timid but not submissive and she later gets more brazen. Dorien is Alpha but so so sweet. I cannot wait for you to discover these characters! The secondary characters are also awesome! The story will captivate you and make you want to continue reading until the very end and even when you hit the end it will not be enough! This book is a must buy! I loved it so much that I raced to Amazon to buy Spartan Hearts 2!!!
Evangeline's return to London after nine long years in America after the death of her parents. I have to say I cried when Evangeline was talking to her parents coffins ahhh.Evangeline prepares to take over from where her parents left off being the only heir to the family legacy of London's Greco-Roman Museum. After a drunken night Evan goes into her parents museum when she see a statue of a man and what does she do?!?! She kisses the statue not knowing that with that single kiss she brought him back to life.I have to say I love how Dorien treats Evangeline, and Evan best friend Taryn is the best, I love her!!!!I was so upset at Kristine Cheney because of the cliff hanger!! Would recommend this book to everyone.
Fav quote! Releasing a breath, her seeking tongue licked and traced his bottom lip. Tasking salt of her tears, pink fingernails dug into loose curls made of stone. “Please! Won't you love me back?” you can just feel the pain in this line.
Kristine Cheney has a new HUGE fan! this book was awesome! in every way. every time I got to the end of a page, I couldn't turn it fast enough. it left me breathless! Her Characters were so believable and lovable, and some were hatable. lol... I loved them all, the good and the bad! I want my very own Dorian! he is the man of my Dreams! the cliffhanger at the end, OH MY! if you haven't gotten this book yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? GO READ IT! you are missing out on a WONDERFUL start to an amazing series! Kristine, THANK YOU for picking me to win this book and Part 2! you do not disappoint! Loyal fan to the end!
okay, going to start Part two now! I can't wait for the adventure in store between those pages!
Now for an example of you cant always count on GoodReads hype...
Juvenile plotting and characters, I kept flipping back and forth because it felt like things were left out- or edited out. (Especially the supposed love making. I kept thinking- "huh?? did I miss something?") And for some reason all the characters- stammered. "wh-wh- what?) I think the author was shooting for romantic but just came up with a giggling teenagers view of romance with a time travelish twist. I usually hate short stories but this one time- i'm glad it was over quickly.
How much do I love this book, let me count the way! Forget it , it's unlimited! Great story, very hot, cliffhanger ending, left me craving for more! Can not wait for the next book, I'm on edge! Must read! Happy reading!
What a amazing story:) storyline was way great,I simply enjoyed it. Kristine Cheney you rock. Im so glad i got the chance to readthis book,I won it off of a comp. And im so glad it did. If you havent checked it out yet,Give it a try!
This book is amazing!!! I love Dorien and Evan. They fit so good together. And wow what a cliff hanger. It left me wanting so much more. I can't wait to read part 2
I Give Spartan Heart, Part One AND Spartan Heart Part Two by Kristine Cheney both 5-Star Reviews!
If I could go higher than 5-stars, I would! I utterly loved these novels from start to finish! As Part Two is an extension of Part One, I'm doing my review for both novels as one review.
**SPOILER ALERT** Thrust back into her old life, Evangeline returns home after the tragic death of both her parents. Having left home and country to attend Princeton University in New Jersey, she never planned on returning to England. Evangeline starts out blaming herself for not being there for her parents, leaving her feeling guilty about that and other parts of her life.
The Greco-Roman museum her family established decades ago, which her parents had been running for many years, is only a small portion of what she faces after the funeral. All the figureheads on the museum-board are decidedly against letting Evangeline take over and be in charge of the inner workings of the museum. Because she's so young and was away for so long, they assume she has no interest in any of it. Are they correct, or are they being presumptuous?
Feeling sorry for herself, she goes out with her old best-friend to let her hair down for the evening. Upon returning home, she feels a pull to enter the private passageway that attaches the family mansion to the museum. After entering the dark, dusty storage room in the museum basement, she becomes sentimental and realizes that maybe she did miss this part of her life, after all.
Discovering an old Greek statue, she marvels at the perfect condition it's in and puzzles over what look to be scars; a strange thing to depict in a statue. Knowing her history, she surmises that the statue appears to be from the time of Hero-King Leonidas Agiad. After some mental calculations, Evangeline decides this statue must represent Leonidas' younger brother, the handsome Prince Dorieus Agiad.
Her thoughts still in turmoil and the effects of the alcohol from the night lingering, Evangeline has a silly moment of weakness and kisses the statue. Little does she know, that silly kiss frees the Spartan prince from the evil oracle, Demona's curse. Suddenly, Tall Dark and Hunky, a sexy, mysterious man with emerald-green-eyes and large, bulging muscles is at her every turn. Tall Dark and Hunky seemingly never eats or sleeps, and always knows what she's thinking and feeling.
Unable to resist being around him or stop thinking about him, Evangeline has no clue he was the Greek statue. The story unfolds into a very well told, hotter than hot love story for the ages. Even after Dorieus reveals his true identity to Evangeline, and the fact that he's immortal, the relationship continues to grow and strengthen.
I absolutely adored the characters, loved the story line, and could not stop reading Spartan Heart until I was done!
Spartan Heart, Part Two picks up where Part One leaves off, taking the readers on an adventure to find and free the other warriors who were also cursed and frozen into statues by the same wicked-evil Demona. Dorieus, Evangeline and a few friends travel to the battleground where he and his warriors fell trying to reclaim Heraclea Minoa, now known as Sicily.
Plots for revenge by disgruntled foes threaten the mortality of Dorieus and his fellow-warriors as they fight time, the elements, and evil itself to unearth and bring his warriors back to life. He forces the women to leave the dig-site and retreat to their hotel for the night once a viscous storm erupts. He was never more relieved or thankful for the strength and depth of the connection he and Evangeline shared, till she instinctively knows to return, insisting something has gone horribly wrong.
Being in the fragile 'condition' she is now, awaiting the birth of their first child, Evangeline understands but doesn't always agree with Dorieus' overprotectiveness regarding the well-being of her and their unborn. He finds that she's much stronger than he ever thought she could be, even though he'd already thought her stronger than most, even for a mere mortal.
I could go on all day about Spartan Heart Part Two, a wonderful, wild, action-packed, dramatic-romance, but where's the fun in that? It's a necessity that you buy and read these books, especially if you're a fan of Greek Mythology, romance, adventure, the paranormal, mystery, wild-rides, and much more.
Spartan Heart Part Two is quite a bit longer then Part One, and even more so than Part One, it's full of one exciting event after another. Kristine Cheney's imagination and account of history is amazing as she tells this sizzling love story, mingled with plenty of action, drama, grief, happiness, every emotion possible, as well as other crazy life-events.
I cannot wait for her next installment. I don't know for sure that there will be more, but I can't imagine it not being so. This is a story that could live on in many novels to come. Spartan Heart Part One, and Spartan Heart Part Two are definitely two books for the keeper-shelf! I already know I'll be reading them repeatedly! I'm looking forward to reading Kristine Cheney's other works!

What would happen if that gorgeous Greek warrior statue in the museum you are visiting comes to life?
That is the premise of this story about Evangeline who is sad and alone with the death of her parents. Evangeline has been away from her parents for nine years after she parted from them under a cloud of anger. She never gets the opportunity to heal the rift before she stands at their graves.
Now she has inherited her parents' Greco-Roman Museum and after a drunken night out with her friend where she meets the man who broke her heart many years ago, the museum is the place that she goes. Evangeline finds an intact statue that was recovered from a dig in 1918. Knowing her history, she identifies the statue as the Warrior Prince of Sparta, Dorien. The statue is male perfection and she goes from admiring it to kissing it. Unknown to her, the statue is in reality the actual Dorien who was cursed into this existence. Evangeline's kiss somehow helps him break free of the curse.
Dorien is instantly attracted to his female rescuer and she is attracted to him. Evangeline thinks Dorien is a figment of her imagination at first, but then she thinks he is just her mysterious romantic interest. Dorien keeps a low profile until he starts learning the ropes of the modern age. His pouch of coins is sold by the assistant he hires and now he has the wealth to acquire what he needs to take on a modern identity. Dorien continues to see Evan and their relationship deepens.
Unbeknownst to the couple, there are hidden enemies who seek to destroy the couple's happiness. Dorien is able to protect Evan from the rabid dog, but what about the next time? And what about the creepy museum caretaker who frightens Evan? There is more, but I do not wish to spoil it for anyone.
The novella ends on a cliffhanger since this is just part one.
I enjoyed the characters of Taryn who is such a great supportive BFF and Dorien with his warrior heart given entirely over to Evan, but I had a hard time with Evan half the time. That part in the end where she inexplicably lies to Dorien after he has told his secrets and given her his trust bothered me- especially knowing the lengths that he was willing to go to sacrifice for her well being. I still admire how she struggles through grief for the death of her parents and works hard to keep the museum funded. And the villains, definitely fall into the 'love to hate' category.
The plot was basically a good one in the overall sense- loved the Spartan Warrior statue come to life and try to figure out the modern age. However, there were specific moments when it was hard to follow almost like there were gaps- her parents murder is never really explained or what the separation from them and the guilt was all about (perhaps part two explains this). There were also moments that stretched my credulity like a Disney fairy tale quality. It was not the insta-love I struggled with although admittedly that is not my favorite romance-style. I found it hard to believe that after being burned by a guy before that after a drunken night when Evan isn't even sure where she met him, Evan just accepts the relationship with Dorien. I also found it incredible that she just let a total stranger, without meeting him, rent her cottage. And I really did not understand her anger when she found out the stranger was Dorien- now she's worried about betrayal? That all being said, I love the world building that Greek gods, goddesses, oracles, and witches existed/exist alongside and in human history. I do love the mystery, intrigue, and build up that the author created to end part one. I am vested in the outcome and will be checking out pt. 2
So if you think you would enjoy a unique twist on the time travel concept, give this one a try!
I guess I'm going to be in the minority here and say I didn't love this book. The writing in general was good, but sort of choppy. Brief, short sentences that should have been condensed into one sentence for a better flow. I got the sense that parts of the book were in poem format, and others in a novel format. Just annoyed me, and I found myself wanting to correct the silly brief, empty sentences! Here's an example of what I'm referring to:
Distraction wasnt coming easy. Dorien searched the plains of her face. Placid veneer changed in an instant. Her expression contorted in fear. Panic filled her eyes. Their color became lost in dilation. She was consumed by desperation. Her high-pitched cry of alarm penetrated his soul
The sentences were too short. Too brief. I did not like them. I found myself searching. Trying to get a good flow. A good flow to reading.
Ok, so that last part was an exaggeration, but still, the writing would have been SO much more enjoyable for the reader, had the paragraphs flowed together, and not so choppy!
That annoyance aside, I did like the plot and the whole "bring an ancient statue to life" idea. Very unique idea, and I can't say that I've ever read a book with that concept before. As much as I hate to seem like a negative person here, it just wasn't enough for me to love this book. The love scenes were lack-luster, and the reader is forced to conjure up what happened in their head, rather than actually read it. Based on the pictures related to this book, I was sure that there'd be some steamy love scenes, but unfortunately, it's just kissing and references to how they had "made love". Literally, the first time they had done the deed, it was skipped entirely, and the reader only had the mention of what they had done indicated that they had sex. I'm not asking for a porn-book :) but a little elaboration on a few scenes, or just having the scene, period, would have given the book much more substance.
The ending is so abrupt and very much a cliff hanger. Towards the end, Evangeline ("Evan") finally discovers she's pregnant. Seriously, she had NO idea up until 6 weeks after her last period?? She has this dramatic scene where she rushes to her bathroom, for a bag full 'o pregnancy test, that her bf Taryn gave her as a "joke" (wow, never saw this coming). Before taking the countless tests, her boobs are huge and tender, she's sick all the time, and other *obvious* signs of pregnancy. Coincidentally, Dorien is away with his "employee", while she's discovering she's pregnant. Right. And then once he returns, he just dismisses Taryn claiming it was HER who was using the pregnancy tests in a sarcastic tone. WTH? It was like the author threw out everyone's common sense and logic, for the sake of ending the book.
To add to the craziness and lack of reasoning, Evan and Taryn make an emergency visit to Taryn's mom, who is a Dr. Yep, she just calls up "Mummy", and she drops everything else her busy schedule had to see them. I literally rolled my eyes and LOL at that! Seriously?!
The ending of the book is just too abrupt and just felt unnatural to end so soon. The book is only 104 pages, and I wonder why the author chose to cut the book in half. -Oh, wait, that's right, that's the smart thing to do! This way, readers will have to pay another $5-$6 just to read the other half the book. Sorry, but I'm not that dumb to pay twice for what should have been ONE book, not two.
Sorry if I offended any with my 2 cents. Just my opinion and not speaking on behalf of any one else.
