For a man who'd spent his Navy SEAL career as a sniper, Gunner finds himself overwhelmed with emotion.
When his sister dies and names him as her son, Ben's, legal guardian, Gunner has to leave the SEALs to became a dad to a five-year-old boy.
Never having pictured himself as anything but alone, and anywhere but in the Navy, he moves to Fire Lake where Gunner's former team leader and his retired SEALs team live and work.
If all that upheaval wasn't enough, he has his sister's in-laws suing to take custody of Ben, and a pain-in-the-ass PI who has made himself at home at the lake house.

The fifth installment in the Fire Lake series, "Gunner," seamlessly continues the captivating narrative of the ongoing saga. The story kicks off with the compelling tale of Gunner, a Navy SEAL veteran, embroiled in a custody battle for his nephew, Ben. Initially portrayed as a stoic loner, Gunner's tough exterior gradually gives way to a poignant transformation from a military man to a nurturing father figure. Noteworthy in this installment is its emphasis on exploring the essence of family and the forging of non-traditional familial bonds.
Adding complexity to Gunner's life is the entrance of PI Connor, whose role involves serving Gunner with custody battle papers. This narrative thread carries over from the preceding book, "Spencer," as we witness Connor's loyalty shift to aid Gunner in winning custody of Ben. Amid their shared objective, a natural and compelling relationship unfolds between Connor and Gunner.
The book is rife with unexpected twists and turns, with its strengths lying in the consistent pacing of the story and the creation of relatable, entertaining characters. The reader becomes deeply invested in the Fire Lake family, a sentiment echoed from the preceding book, "Spencer," as the series seamlessly passes the baton to characters Jason and Gator, setting the stage for the next installment.
However, a minor setback is the continuation of unresolved storylines from the previous five books, leaving some loose ends lingering. To fully appreciate the intricate web of characters in Fire Lake, I highly recommend starting the series from the beginning.
In conclusion, "Gunner" adds another layer of depth to the Fire Lake series, exploring themes of family and unconventional bonds, all while maintaining a gripping pace and introducing characters that resonate with readers.

Reviewed for Love Bytes – 4.5 Hearts Having been suckered in by false information about Gunner – Private Investigator Connor feels he must right the wrong. Determined to do the right thing, he follows Gunner and the SEAL team back to Fire Lake. Understandably, trust didn’t accompany them – and there are consequences. Gunner is the fifth and final book in the Fire Lake series. If anyone shouts, ‘Nooooo’ - judging from the ending and other plot bunnies, there will most likely be a spin-off. Anyhoo, I found Gunner to be the best of the batch. It was a balanced, cohesive, entertaining read that kept me turning the page until the end. Although, to get the full immersive experience at least book 4 should also be read. Gunner and Conner provide the viewpoints, though odd paragraph from others sneak in. I feel these other opinions could have been written to make their thoughts known but not technically heard. There was also the odd change in wording which made me question the verbal tense of some areas. But those were my only gripes and the reasoning why this story received 4.5 hearts instead of 5. Worldbuilding has developed through the series, and other than some immediate descriptions of their whereabouts, I enjoyed the focus on the main protagonists and their mission. So far, every book in the series has contained two primary elements, the new m/m relationship, and the ensuing mission, which highlights the skills of the latest addition to the story. It is a formula that works, too. The SEALs are exceptional at what they do. However, in previous books, the mission, albeit super to read, has been a bit of a stretch on the imagination. The operation in Gunner flowed and gelled much better. Though, the author has a penchant for using government/conspiracies and messed up families in the plotlines. As the blurb says, Gunner is a former SEAL sniper - his quietly organized world is turned on its head when his sister dies, naming him guardian of his nephew, Ben. He’s just getting used to one change when Connor arrives on the scene turning Gunners' emotions into a tossed salad. So, it’s safe to say that Gunner has a lot to work through, especially given the custody battle in his future. By trade, Connor is a methodical Private Investigator with a past, who fancies the pants off Gunner alongside righting a wrong. His personality, connections, and place in the group develops through the pages, so I won’t go into much detail as I don’t do spoilers. Suffice as to say, I enjoyed every word, and it kept me turning the page. In summary, this novel provided (amongst other things) a splendid mix of tenderness, emotional upheaval, awesome action, SEAL family protection, other twisted family drama, and links to other plotlines in the series—a thoroughly enjoyable experience. This book was provided free in exchange for a fair and honest review for Love Bytes.
This book started as a promising and captivating read, with complex and likable main characters. However, being a part of a five-book series with an interconnected storyline and characters, it turned out to be challenging to follow and read as a standalone. Even more so, several unresolved plots from previous books, crucial for understanding the current story, are not introduced or at least briefly described in the storyline. Despite the main couple's love story concluding with a HEA, the book abruptly ends with a cliffhanger in the middle of the ongoing scene with a new couple. I recommend reading this book if you have read the previous books in the series and are invested in the story. However, I would not recommend it to readers new to the series, as it might be challenging to follow and understand the multilayered storyline.
Pros: * The main two characters are complex, likable, and exciting, each with their history and secrets. * The love story between Gunner and Conor is well crafted and written, captivating and exciting because of their opposite and warm personalities. * Overall, the writing style is vivid and skillful. Cons: * Lack of basic introduction of unresolved plots and multiple characters from previous books. * Loose ends: Several stories mentioned or started in this book are not resolved or at least explained (mystery story of murder committed by a priest years ago, Noah project, Hammon's missing child, Conor's childhood, special abilities, Harris and his missing sister). * Cliffhanger
Overall: The cliffhanger is the main reason I downgraded the rating to 3 stars. I understand and accept that sometimes the narrative calls for a vague ending, leaving the reader's imagination to decide about the story's conclusion. However, I don't see the need or context for such in this particular book. It is just an abrupt and annoying end of the story with a cliffhanger.

Gunner was the surprise member of the group. When the others retired he stayed, he didn't think he was ready to face civilian life. Then his sister was killed in a car accident leaving his five year old nephew to his care. He set himself up in the Lake House with the team and with Ben, his nephew and began to navigate this new life. It was going well, helped by the team and Julia, their admin whose young son of a similar age to Ben was happy to have a playmate.
Then the team get called away on a missing person's case and somehow they are found by a PI who has come to deliver papers to Gunner. These papers are from the biological father of Ben, a man who hasn't been seen since his sister concieved. How and why his parents now want to challenge Gunner's custody is unkown, even to Conor. When he learns more about the case he decides to attach himself to the team, or at least to Conor, believing he needs to do right by the other man and try to get to the bottom of what is going on. He saves Gunner's life on the mission and somehow follows them all back to the Lake House. Now Gunner can't seem to get rid of him though if he is honest with himself he probably doesn't want to. Not only is Conor great with Ben, the team like him and Gunner... Well it might take him a little while to admit how he feels but he'll get there. It happens sooner than expected when things take a couple of interesting turns. There is the case, the investigations into the family of Ben's biological father and then there is the mystery of the old papers found in the Lake House and the story of a shooting...
This Fire Lake title has romance, action, thrills and mystery all entwined in its pages. It truly is a compelling read and it is very steamy too. Ben is adorable, the team are their usual gruff, passionate selves. It is powerful and addictive reading, definitely an addictive series!.

Another great edition to the Fire Lake family. Gunner, another Navy SEAL has joined the LH investigation team at Fire Lake, bringing his almost 5 year old nephew, Ben, with him. He was forced into retirement after his sister passed away, leaving Ben in his care and custody. He is amazing with Ben. As we learned in the previous book, Ben’s bio dad’s (who isn’t in the pic) parents are seeking custody. And because Conor felt guilty for locating Gunner for the in laws to find, he has come back to Fire Lake to make it up to Gunner and Ben, by protecting Ben from his awful grandparents. Conor is a dang good PI and an awesome person. He is loyal, hard working and fierce. These two together are wonderful once they get past all the distrust and animosity, on Gunner’s side of things. The teams are focused on the court trial and in the meantime they have a single case. This book is slower paced than the previous books, most the action takes place later in the book. It’s a lot of building of a relationship between Gunner and Conor. They have a lot to overcome with their rocky start. And add in Ben, that’s a lot. Their focus is on this wonderful little boy first and foremost. I legit cried at the end with the scene with Ben and all those who love him. A bit of a slow burn, low spice as to be suspected from this series. But these two build quite the bond. We are left with some questions still and a bit of a cliffhanger for the next book, at least that is what I’d assume. My biggest complaint is, Julia’s son’s name was Sammy through the entire series, til this book when they changed it to Matthew. That little detail bugged me. Otherwise, I thoroughly enjoyed this series and can’t wait to see what comes next.
I'm struggling to choose rating between 3 & 4 stars. I liked Gunner and Conor. The book was interesting maybe a little over the top at times but I was enjoying it and how these two came together trying to keep Ben safe. However I had some trouble with this book. First, minor thing, but I didn't like how easily Julia betrayed Conor's confidence and how that was okay to him. She could have handled that differently with same results. Without spoiling things lets say ib later we discover something about Conor that was so out of nowhere and made little sense but it kind of became the most important thing that I really struggled through the rest of the book. To me it this thing didn't add up because with it in the play I don't understand how Conor could end up in Gunners life at all, the happenings in previous book, how Conor came to this Teams radar just couldn't have happened - didnt make really sense. But I love the Teams family vibe and how they take care of one another - not so much of that walking over other guys with the line "we'll see" without giving credit where it's do. So I have very miced feelings here on the other hand maybe that the point. I went with 4stars in the end. Some minor typos.

Gunner is book four in the Fire Lake series and concerns Gunner, one of the Navy SEALS based at Fire Lake, and Conor, a private Investigator with a mission. The two guys are thrown together by a plot to take Gunner’s nephew Ben away from his care. Gunner became his guardian when his sister died. Ben’s paternal grandparents are not beyond dirty tricks to get their way. Gunner is going to need all the help he can get to see off their claim.
This is a great instalment of the Fire Lake series and typical of the rest it becomes a lot more complicated than just a custody case as threats to national security and dark secrets are uncovered.
The two guys get to explore how well they work and play together in the field as well as in the bedroom. Things get a bit weird in a fantasy kind of way but this adds to the enjoyment of a series that was always a little out there anyway. A couple of new characters get added to the mix and, hopefully, they’ll get their own instalment as there are a few loose ends and a humdinger of a cliffhanger ending to resolve. Looking forward to it all!.

So, this is the first time reading this author. I read all 5 books in the series. The series is advertised as 5 books, so I’m confused with how the last book Gunner ended. From reading reviews it did feel better knowing followers of Ms Tasia felt the same way. Even a one page ad saying such and such series to come, look for it! Would have helped. Though I’m not a fan of cliffhangers. To the point we’re an author I loved started a series which was great, but the original plot was not solved in book 1 or book 2 and book 2 ended with a second cliffhanger, never bought another book in the series. Authors please know avid readers are emotionally invested in the characters they are reading. It’s a sign of a good author please don’t play with our emotions. Loved Patricia Cornwall books, bought all of the Kay Scapeta series July 1 when the books were published. Then she went and killed off Benton, WTF, playing with emotions of the readers. I have never read a book of hers since. Please authors we care about our characters. Remember that in your writing. We will see if I buy another book the jury is out.
Hopefully you read book #4 (Spencer) as there is some tie in which leads us to Gunner’s story. Gunner was given custody of his nephew (Ben) after his sister died and Ben’s grandparents are suing for custody. Conor is a PI who was hired by the grandparents to find dirt on Gunner, but once he learned the truth, decided he did not want to take Ben away from Gunner. Gunner is at a point where he doesn’t want Conor anywhere near him and his nephew and treats him badly while he is hanging around Fire Lake.
But what happens when Conor calls in a favor and due to the favor in return, the team take on a new case that could lead to their deaths? A few new characters emerge, some are welcomed, but some are treading on a very short line. A few things you don’t see coming will come! Mystery, suspense, deception, action, excitement, truths, secrets, and some very steamy scenes will keep your interest from page 1. This ends in a cliffhanger and I cannot wait for the next book! Fire Lake Just Keeps Getting Hotter M. Tasia’s “Gunner” is the latest in the Fire Lake series of contemporary MM romantic suspense with a military vibe, and I cannot say enough good things about this title, the series in total, or the sheer talent with which Tasia graces us. Gunner—hot, growly, former SEAL sniper—and Conor (the private investigator who started out as an enemy) may seem like an unlikely pairing, but they just…work…despite Gunner’s initial resistance to it. Gunner is fiercely protective of his young nephew, Ben, who is an absolute doll, and the developing relationship between these two strong men is just as special as the family dynamic that is unfolding with little Ben. Add to that all of the other couples in the series remaining a huge part of each new story, and Tasia is creating a book family that keeps us coming back for more. So much respect and attention to the love story that I keep rereading this series and never tire of it. It’s one of my favorite things about Tasia’s talent!
This was such a great little read! I thoroughly enjoyed every page and can’t wait to dive into the next book in the Fire Lake world.
Gunner hits all the right emotional notes—grief, growth, unexpected parenthood, and a budding romance that sneaks up on you in the best way. Watching a tough-as-nails Navy SEAL sniper try to navigate single fatherhood was both touching and heart-melting. Gunner’s journey from hardened warrior to full-time dad felt raw, honest, and beautifully written.
The added tension with his sister’s in-laws and the snarky, persistent PI made for great drama and a slow-burn connection that totally worked for me. Fire Lake itself is the perfect backdrop—small-town vibes with a whole cast of strong, loyal ex-SEALs that you can’t help but fall for.
If you love military heroes with a soft side, found family, and a dose of legal drama and romance, Gunner is definitely worth the read!.

This is another enjoyable story in the Fire Lake series, this time with Gunner and Conor who we met in Spencer’s story. Gunner is an ex-Navy SEAL with Brick, Fletcher, Shaw, and Spencer. He left the Navy after his sister passed away, leaving him to raise her son Ben. Conor is a private investigator hired by Ben’s biological grandparents on his father’s side to try to get custody of Ben even though his biological father signed away his rights when Ben was born. When Conor learns that his clients lied to him to get him to find damaging information about Gunner, he changes sides and is committed to doing whatever he can to help Gunner keep Ben. This is another rich story, with great characters, intriguing plot lines, steamy scenes, and a very satisfying conclusion. I love this series and can’t wait for Jason and Gator’s story coming next!

Danger, betrayal and suspense in this well written and entertaining book
This is the 5th book is another enjoyable addition in the Fire Lake series, and one of my favorites so far! The story was rich with great, well-developed characters, and an intriguing plot. Gunner dropped everything to take care of his nephew upon his sister’s untimely death. The nephew’s father’s family hires a PI to locate Gunner and a custody battle ensues. What follows is so much more - - there is action, mystery, suspense, deception, excitement, truths, secrets, and some very steamy scenes that truly kept my interest to the end! I look forward to the next book in this well written series. And the found family in this series just keeps getting better and better! I was provided a copy of this book by the author, and am leaving this review that reflects my opinion of the book voluntarily.
Gunner and the team run through several missions while adding others to their close group. Conor is a private investigator, used by an evil couple to take away Gunners nephew Ben. He joins the group to retaliate against the court case and also helps them with other cases they are on. The characters just keep getting better and their exploits become roller coaster rides of action, emotions, steam, danger and trust. Loved the blending of the information and situations they are involved in, concluding in a terrific ending. Can not wait for the next book as the final chapter has me on edge waiting already. Well done series.

I still haven't read 1-3 yet but I'm definitely enjoying this series as these badass men find their partners. I just finished book 4 and I ate up book 5.
I was definitely interested in learning more about Conor after his intro in Spencer. I don't know if anyone else watched Wizards of Waverly Place when they were younger but the theme song fits perfectly for some of the love interests in the series. I liked how we learned more and more about Conor as if they were an onion and we were going through the layers. Even while we learned some more things about Gunner, they are definitely a cute couple to read about.

Excellent found family. Gunner's life was as a SEAL. He lived and breathed, SEAL. Then his sister died and he became the guardian of his nephew, Ben. Gunner's life was Ben! He would do anythign for Ben. Connor, was a PI hired by Ben's paternal Grand Parents who wanted custody. Connor, had a change of heart and decided to help Gunner and Ben. Then Gunner and Ben, saw each other. They each dragged a bit of baggage. In their case, it made them both better men. Connor's assimilation and Gunner's relaxing are intriguing. Will Ben get to stay with Gunner? Will Connor get to stay with Gunner? Good story. Well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Gunner and Conor have a few adventures as their relationship shifts from enemies to lovers. Conor was hired to find Ben, Gunner's nephew by his now dead sister who wanted him to have custody. Conor's had a change of heart to help Ben and Gunner, but the veteran doesn't trust him. Meanwhile there's a plot line where Conor makes a deal with a notorious Don to find Ben's biological father, and in exchange for that information, Conor (and the rest of the team) are assigned the case of taking down a crooked businessman.. The action is fast, the relationship is fast, and the plot is very very thin.
Fond memories of his grandmother and her cooking has Gunner making meals for his team sometimes. Being the best uncle for Ben is his main job. Conner has a bit of history (best if you read the books in the series to understand better). His personal vow to to make amends with Gunned and do all he can to help Ben stay with Gunner after Ben’s grandparents decide they want him.
There’s a lot going on in this book! Action, mafia, lots of bad guys, heat and finally sexy times between Gunned and Conor.
Great read!.

Great story. I did receive my copy as an arc. I wasn’t sure about Conor when he appeared in the last book. After reading his and Gunner’s story I love his character. This was actioned packed and emotional. I really like hour the author writes children. A lot of authors write children unrealistically. Their story is complete. We learn a little more about the murder mystery from Aunt Sophia’s papers. Can’t wait to see what happens next with that. The book ends where Gator’s story is going to start. Low to patiently wait for that to come.
This book was okay. Not enjoyable as Spence's story with less interesting case. Did author forget about the priest and the murder case? That case would be more intriguing than Bower's problem.
Jason, Ben's father and Gator will be next MCs I guess, not Devon and Harris.
Jason got drunk with his best friend, Mandy, Gunner's sis and having (unprotected) sex (?) and made her pregnant with Jason's child. He stated that Mandy knew he was gay before he was ready to admit it meant Jason was in denial about his sexuality. I already have strong disliked about Jason.

Reading this Tasia story is like pulling a string. It begins with the welfare of a little boy. But as the string unravels, it takes you on a journey of twists and turns leading to government computer hacking and dirty politicians. It soon becomes a page turning race to the end for Gunner and Conor's HEA and the safety of the rest of the Fire Lake family. Sadly, the author leaves what is another loose thread to the next adventure in the series, which fans like myself will just have to (im)patiently await.
OK, we meet Connor at the end of Spencer’s story, and I wasn’t sure about him in that book. But he passes the vibe check in Gunner’s book. Gunner is an ex Navy SEAL who served with the guys, but he got out when his sister passed away. In her will she named him as taking responsibility of her five year old son, Ben. Connor is hired by Ben’s paternal grandparents to fight for custody of Ben. Once Connor knows about the lies, the grandparents have told him he switches to Gunner’s side and will do anything and everything to help him retain custody of him Ben. Will this be enough for them to move forward in their relationship? I can’t wait for the next book in the series!!
Gunner, one of the retired navy seal team members became the guardian of his five year old nephew Ben when his sister died and named him in her will. Conor is a P.I. that tracks Gunner down and serves him with court papers by his grandparents to take custody. Conor finds out later that they are despicable people and vows to help Gunner fight for custody of Ben. There is a lot of danger, betrayal and suspense in this well written entertaining book. There is also some tie in with book four and a beginning for the next book.
“They belonged together. He felt it with his whole being.”
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed meeting these men, watching them find their matches, and along the way make the world a safer place. Gunner, and the adorable Ben, could not have chosen anyone better than Conor. He’s a treasure and the more I learned about him, the more I adore him. I think my favorite part of their relationship is how they believe in the other and trust. I can’t want to until the next time we get to visit Fire Lake, and hope it’s a long stay.
Book 5 of the Fire Lake series. The former Navy SEAL raising his sister's son and the PI hired by her in-laws to investigate him to take custody from him.
The characters were very well written and developed and complex and complicated and perfectly steamy together. Plot was well developed and intense. World building continues to be exemplary. Another great addition to the series. Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend this series.

Fire Lake book 5 a real page turner, Gunner, a former Navy Seal leaves the Teams after his sister dies to take care of his nephew Ben. Conor a P.I. hired by Ben’s bio grandparent, to locate Gunner and Ben, because they want custody. Conor ends up giving up his case to help Gunner keep custody. Lots of drama and excitement. I definitely recommend this series.

Wow just wow - really loved this book, it was hard to put down as i just wanted to see what happened. Loved the characters and the storyline just had you more and more hooked each page read. As always lovely to have a HEA but finally chapter was for another character Jason's story and now I am avidly awaiting that book to see the outcome. Will definitely add this author to my favourites.

'Gunner' is a complete adrenaline rush. There are always about 5 things going on all the time. There are more conspiracies, more personal issues, more action. A few new characters have shown up. This book also adds a little paranormal to the mix. This series needs to be read in order, especially 'Gunner' and the next one 'Gator' because 'Gunner leaves us with one hell of a cliff hanger. I can't wait to get my hands on 'Gator'.
Gunner and Conor were so entertaining to watch fall in love. Gunner didnt want to fall for Conor but he couldn't help himself once he got to know him. Gunner had problems and Conor was determined to help with them. I was glad the team stepped in to help with Conor's favor that he promised in order to get the information Gunner needed to win the custody battle of his nephew. It was truly a great read.
