Sometimes, the crosshairs aren’t in a scope—they’re on your back. As Brady Hawk and the Magnum Group travels to extract a Russian general who's defecting, they learn of a plot by members of the FSB to assassinate a high-level U.S. official.
When they return home, they find that all their assumptions about who's behind the plot and why are wrong, sending the team chasing an assassin who is already two steps ahead.
And with the Russian assassin on the loose, no one is safe. No one. If you're a fan of authors like Brad Taylor, Vince Flynn, David Baldacci or Lee Child you will enjoy this series from award-winning and bestselling author R.J. Patterson. THE FIRST SIGNS that I might like writing -- and that I might be slightly competitive -- appeared when my year two (or first grade) teacher, Mrs. Holland, asked my class to write and illustrate our day. Mine read like this: “The Red team beat the Blue team, 1 to nil. And I won.” The next 47 entries covered my exploits on the soccer pitch while growing up in Ipswich, England.
In South Carolina as a teenager, my dad told me that I could get paid to watch sports provided I could write about it. Sounded easy enough and by the time I was 16, I landed a job at my town’s daily newspaper and had a column on Major League Baseball players from our area. I also covered my first riot there at a sporting event -- and it’s safe to say I was smitten with journalism.
After graduating from one of the best journalism schools in the country, I took a job as a sports editor in South Georgia and learned firsthand about the passion of high school sports in rural America. I thought I knew before, but I didn’t. This was another world.
I also had the opportunity to cover major sporting events like the Olympic Games, the World Series, the Super Bowl, and the Final Four. It was a thrill!
But nothing was as thrilling to me as uncovering the truth in investigative assignments. I once broke a story about a prominent southern football team’s NCAA violation -- and found out the violating coach had committed suicide only a few months earlier. The story won a national writing award and stoked my desire to write about these issues. It made me realize that the sports world was just another fantastic backdrop for drama.
After writing non-fiction books with athletes, for athletes, and ghost writing for many others, I decided to enter the world of fiction writing. It had been something I wanted to do but never found the time. So, I made the time--and had a blast in the process.
I’m not out to become the next Faulkner or Hemingway -- I’m just out to tell a good story. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them!
Excellent addition to the Phoenix Chronicles series. The Keystone Protocol, the eighth book in the Phoenix Chronicles may just be my favorite of the series. While Brady and Alex play a pivotal part in the story, Morgan, Mia, and Big Erv also have larger parts making for a fuller story. While these stories are normally action packed and filled with intrigue, The Keystone Protocol takes it to a higher level especially in the intrigue/misdirection. In fact, this story was filled with more close calls for not just the Phoenix Foundation crew, but several other characters leaving this reader to wonder if this might be the end of several folks.
The Magnum Group need to keep two steps ahead as no-one is safe.
The penultimate book in the Phoenix Chronicles series finds Brady and Alex Hawk, on the Kazakhstan border, about to assist a defecting Russian General; but it’s never as easy as Brady tries to reassure his wife!! Meanwhile, in parallel, back in the US, Morgan May has also found herself involved with Russians. The many twists and turns kept me engaged, often with my heart in my mouth, with the drama of the Phoenix Chronicles, before revealing the Magnum Group’s next challenge.
An excellent thriller with several plots that tie together to a climatic finish. Very well written with a realistic storyline and a cast of outstanding characters. Page turning read with plenty of action and several twists. Well-crafted series that I highly recommend. Bring on The Last Train to Beijing!
It's probably my fault, I usually like to begin a new series with the first book, I didn't! This was my first, hence the skipping back n forth amongst characters I didn't know (in each chapter) was somewhat confusing... overall I really enjoyed the characters and the storyline was indeed well crafted and stimulating! I'll now start from the beginning!
I got to say this book wasn't as good as the other Brady Hawk books it was hard to keep up with with the others you didn't know who was who and Bradley Hawk and his wife wasn't in it much! Hope the next one is better!
Once again Brady Hawk and the Magnum group have their work cut out for them. There’s a Russian Assassin that they have to find before it’s too late. Full of danger, intrigue and suspense. Twists and turns with every page Can’t wait for the next one.
This latest book from RJ Patterson had lots of twists, turns and switchbacks. It is an action packed thriller from beginning to end - just the way we like these kinds of books. You will not be disappointed with this book. Very well written.
Another excellent story in the phoenix chronicles series. Things were happening so fast it was hard to keep up with them . I can't wait to start the next book in the series.
I have two unresolved questions about this storyline. One is how were the pictures of Senator Nelson's meeting deleted from Morgan's phone? Two is Camille should have been in Secret Service custody. How was she not missed when she was kidnapped?
