July brings sunshine and warm weather to the Isle of Man. It also brings Aunt Bessie and her friends another cold case to solve. This time, though, the police may know exactly what happened. It appears that Leo Jordan killed his wife and then himself, but the detective in charge of the case isn’t convinced.
While Bessie and the rest of the unit are trying to work out whether the murder-suicide case was actually two murders, Jasper Coventry has problems of his own at the Seaview Hotel.
When one former guest reports having his credit card information stolen while he’d been staying at the Seaview, Jasper is concerned. Days later, the complaints continue to pour in and Jasper is panicking. This sort of thing could seriously damage the luxury hotel’s reputation, and he turns to Bessie for help.
Can the cold case unit work out exactly what happened to Leo and Anna Jordan? Can they help Jasper discover which member of his staff has been stealing credit card information from guests? And can Bessie be polite to Dan Ross when it’s absolutely necessary?
Diana started self-publishing in 2013 and over a decade later she now has over a hundred books available for readers. Writing remains her passion and she has no plans to stop writing in the foreseeable future.
Diana grew up in Erie, Pennsylvania, and earned a history degree from Allegheny College. She met her husband, an Englishman, while living and working in Washington, DC. Following their marriage, she moved to Derbyshire. A short while later, the happy couple moved to the Isle of Man.
During their years on the island, Diana and her husband welcomed two children, and Diana completed a master’s degree in the history of the island. In 2008, the family made the decision to move to the US. Now empty-nesters, Diana and her husband are living in the suburbs of Buffalo, New York, and contemplating moving somewhere that doesn’t get snow.
Diana also writes mystery/thrillers set in the not-too-distant future as Diana X. Dunn and Young Adult fiction as D.X. Dunn.
From the beginning of this cold case there was doubt amongst the unit members that they could solve this possible double suicide/murder mystery. Which was it? After each member goes over the case files, their questions for the original detective are answered, and the back and forth discussions are concluded, the actual killer is revealed... and then confirmed in a tragic way. As the team contemplates this cold case there is a credit card thief among someone on the staff of the hotel/restaurant, the Seaview. Bessie and Andrew are mixed up in the resolution of this current case, which is solved. I like having the ends neatly tied together. I'm looking forward to the next cold case!
On July 5, 1996, the bodies of Leo and Anna Jordan of Cheyenne, Wyoming, were found in their bedroom. Based on a note at the scene, the police originally assumed that their deaths were the result of a murder-suicide pact.
But the investigating officer is not so sure, and a few years later, the Jordan case is being reviewed by the cold case unit which includes Elizabeth "Aunt Bessie" Cubbon.
In addition to the possible double murder, Bessie and her friends are also trying to figure out if one, or more, of the employees of the deluxe Seaview Hotel is stealing credit card information from their guests...
I love these cold case files as everyone is so different. Also, I love the various things going on in the background with Bessie's friends. I am waiting anxiously for good news from Elizabeth and Andy. It's the little bits of information that carry over book to book that make my day and make me smile. I sure wish we had a longer alphabet, by the way.
Another tedious re-introduction of all of the main characters to supply volume for the book. Also very typical is the inclusion of two stories, unsurprisingly indicating that one on its own is insufficient to maintain the self-imposed quota of fifteen stretched chapters. Adding further volume, is the standard gastronomical focus on food and its consumption. All extremely predictable.
Another win for the Cold Case team. It is so surprising that just one little question can turn the spotlight to a different area which had been unthought of. Jasper Coventry was having credit card theft trouble so he spoke to Andrew and Bessie. Who knew that with a few questions that one could be figured out also. Good stories.
I hope that Diana keeps writing stories with her as a character, she us a wonderful personality. Read the Aunt Bessie series before this one. I never get enough AuntBessie.
These books are absolutely fantastic the characters are really well written and the description of the places make you want to go and vist, I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys cosy mystery stories.
