"No one ever hears us coming, we move in the darkness like shadows."

I enjoyed reading this, between the instant attraction and forbidden romance vibes I was hooked. Ares and his brothers are the ghosts, calculating dark killers but their bond is unbreakable. I can't wait to read more about the brothers. It's a bloody mess with spicy love in the dark.

The Ghosts are insane and ruthless. I loved this storyline so so much. I loved Ares and Esha so much. I can’t wait to see what happens through the rest of the series.

Ares is cold with deep soul-less eyes, he's a love um and leave um type, he never catches feelings, never goes back twice, until her.
I absolutely love this man! He's cold and calculated with a knack for killing, it comes as easy as breathing. It's deliciously Dark and all-consuming, I couldn't get enough. Even though this is Ares' book, we get to meet his brothers as well and my god, I can't wait for this series to continue because I love them all and can't wait to see what they bring to the table.

This is a dark read and does have triggers

ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review

Ever since I finished Psycho Royals and Ruby mentioned the idea of writing a series about The Ghosts I've been waiting for the first book, and I have to say that Ruby Wolff gave me much more than I expected with Shadow of War: an extremely dark plot that I enjoyed since the prequel and that I need to know more about NOW! secondary characters that immediately stole my heart and a complex, real, raw, heartbreaking love story, with its little toxic overtones, but that absorbed me from the first chapter and that will most likely become one of my new obsessions.

I LOVED Esha! She's quite a complex character: with a difficult family situation that gets more complicated and twisted as the story progresses and with which Ruby did an excellent job for so many reasons (I can't say because spoiler), she's the typical good girl, obedient, who loves her family and follows their strict rules even when they keep her in constant isolation and don't let her be free, BUT she also has a strong, rebellious, determined and brave side that I didn't expect and I really enjoyed reading. I really liked her cute, funny and loyal friendship with Jay, how her best friend becomes her unconditional accomplice and supports her at all times, and I liked even more that when Ares, Nyx, Nitro & Tic burst into her life, join that support sistem that Esha needs, especially when the secrets begin to be discovered and her life takes a totally unexpected turn.

Ares is one of the most complex and dark characters I've ever read, and I honestly can't believe I'm saying this but, I LOVED HIM SO MUCH! he's a boy completely destroyed by his past, haunted by his demons and forced to experience unimaginable abuse, but throughout that hard road he always had his brothers by his side: Nyx, Nitro & Tic are the most important people in his life and for whom he is willing to do everything. Ares is cold, ruthless, distant and with an impenetrable barrier to the world, until Esha comes into his life, captivates him instantly and he makes his goal to infiltrate every aspect of his life, what he doesn't know is that she's going to infiltrate his life too, complicating his plan for revenge against the organization that harmed Wes, Ares and his brothers even more. One of the things I loved the most about Ares was that, despite the fact that his character evolves throughout the book, his personality, traumas, and way of calm his demons remain intact, although not in the same way.

I think Esha & Ares have one of the best and most complicated love stories I've ever read. I really liked reading their first meeting: the immediate sexual tension that arose between them, Ares' flirtation & sensuality and everything that is unleashed from that first kiss, but without a doubt what I loved the most was the subtle changes in Ares's attitude and manner towards Esha that are evident to her and the boys, I was surprised to read Ares being sweet, tender and careful with Esha, her facing her family and the way they both find their place in each other, even with all the situations they have to overcome to be together.

And the secondary characters, OMG! I absolutely LOVED Nyx, Nitro & Tic and I am the happiest knowing that everyone will have the opportunity to tell their stories, although I already have a favorite and I am looking forward to its story coming soon. I also really enjoyed reading Wes & Robert again and learning more about the bond the boys have with each other and with Wes.

Esha ME ENCANTÓ!

I wish I could give this book 10 stars. It is so well written with endearing characters who grip your heart. The anguish and trauma experienced by the brothers is beyond anything I could imagine. Their mission in life is to destroy those who broke them. Despite their pasts they have scruples and are decent men. This is proven by their actions toward Esha.

Ares finds what it means to be loved and give love. This is a foreign concept to him having never experienced emotional feelings for anyone beside his brothers. In turn, Esha heals him. She learns how sheltered she was by her family to cover up their heinous deeds.

Beaware this book is extremely dark with triggers of childhood abuse and violence.

This story is great! I love a tortured, bad boy and "princess" love story. Ares and his brothers have suffered so much trauma together and have been "taking care of things." Esha is such a strong fmc. I loved her. I definitely recommend this book, and I can’t wait to read Nitros' story in Carnage!

Shadow of War is book 1 in the Ghosts series
You got a small glimpse of the Ghosts at the end of Genesis of Shadow the prequel to this series that focuses on Detective Wesley Greyson who has spent the last 2 years with his partner Alex trying to bring down a group who kidnaps and tortured kids. in a twist it transpires these four boys that we meet at the end of the Prequel, were also taken by the same group and looking for their revenge - Wesley takes the boys in and here the Ghosts are born.

Ares story picks up with the ‘brothers’ as adults still seeking their revenge, but finding bits and pieces of who is responsible for their kidnapping and other kids deaths, following the trail leads them to a family that has a 22yo daughter Esha

Esha is kept in a gilded prison that is her home as the only daughter in her family with no freedom of her own. When Esha’s path crosses with Ares there is an instant attraction on her part, for Ares she’s just another ‘good time’ he doesn’t do ‘relationships’ but this books brings a lot of twists and fate brings these together in more ways than one.

A great start to the series, can’t wait for book 2 Shadow of Carnage ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

"No one ever hears us coming, we move in the darkness like shadows."

OMG! This was one hell of a dark, violent and twisted story and I loved every freaking moment of it. Nothing was off limits when it came to The Ghosts. Right from the very beginning we are thrown down a rabbit hole of darkness filled with depravity, bloodiness, gore, vengeance and sex. This story blasts out of the pages at 100 miles and doesn’t slow down one second. It is a wild and crazy rollercoaster ride.

These brothers, Ares, Tic, Nyx and Nitro, are ghosts that live and thrive in the shadows. They are killers with a bond that is utterly unbreakable and they will do anything and everything to make sure that bond stays in place.

When Ares gets one look at Esha, his world gets turned upside down, and he instantly knows that she will be his no matter what. Esha also feels an instant connection with Ares and she can’t keep herself away from him. They both crave the immediate lust and desire that they have for one another and will do whatever it takes to be with each other. Together they start to heal all of the demons that Ares battles every day. But not before they give into the desire that keeps pulling them together. It was HOT!!!

I devoured every deliciously dark and sexy moment of this story, and I never wanted it to end. It kept me riveted to my seat, gasping at every shocking moment and rubbing my legs together to ease the ache that Ares, Tic, Nyx and Nitro were doing to my poor lady parts.

I am now addicted to The Ghosts and I need more from these deliciously depraved men.

The first book in The Ghost Series and my first time reading this author.  Neither disappoints.

Ares and his three 'brothers' keep themselves to themselves and for good reason, by day they are tattoo artists and fix up bikes, but by night they spend their time trying to bring down a group of families who kidnap and torture children and by doing so, hope to bring down the very people who broke them.

Esha, is a 22 year old woman who is kept in a gilded cage/prison by her family, although she doesn't know why.  When Ares and Esha's paths cross, there is an instant attraction and although Ares 'doesn't do relationships', he seems to keep finding himself in her bedroom watching her sleep.  This well written book kept me second guessing throughout.  I would definitely recommend reading the trigger warnings as I had to close my kindle a few times, however, I was intrigued and then pleased that I continued reading.  Ares is not your usual dark H, he is troubled, tortured and damaged yet he captured my heart regardless and Esha, considering her sheltered upbringing, is a strong h and I loved how she stands up for what she believes in.

Shadow of War will drag you through so many emotions as the plot twists and turns through some heart-breaking chapters.  Ares and Esha's relationship isn't easy but can they find a way to compromise in order to both find 'their own, unique kind of hea'?

This is an excellent start to a new series and I am looking forward to reading book 2, Shadow of Carnage.

This one was okay…

I liked Rich Boy WAY more than this one. The jumping around from setting to setting made it REALLY hard to stay in the book and the grammar, yet again, was awful. I’m not trying to be mean at all, I STILL liked the book, I still finished it and was able to flesh out the story. It just jumped from scene to scene with zero transitions at times taking me out of the story when I’d have to pause and figure out how we got from standing at the bar to some sitting at the table and others talking to girls. So confusing. Then the grammar gave me pause as well. After getting over all that though, the storyline WAS dark and sad and so real life that it gave me shivers.
Ares was an okay H, not nearly as alpha as I’m used to. He was very passive aggressive and that’s always hard to swallow for me. I need a take charge leave no space to question me hero. Our h was weak at times but her quiet strength came through in the end.
All in all, so glad this wasn’t my 1st read by Ruby Wolff and was my 2nd else I wouldn’t be reading anymore. Again, this was okay, just not great. So now I get to read a 3rd one by her to be the tie breaker and I can’t wait to see what I read next! 😊

“Shadow of war” is the first book of “The Ghost series” by Ruby Wolff.

Ares is a broken man he’s tortured and he has many many demons he’s battling. He’s working with his small group of friends who has suffered the same amount of torture that he has suffered. Whilst they are working to take down the group of people who committed unspeakable crimes to Ares and his brothers among many others he crosses paths with Esha.

Esha lives with her wealthy family but not everything is as it seems. Edna’s wealthy life is nothing but a prison. When Esha meets Ares sparks fly their chemistry oozes off the pages.

Ruby Wolff has done an outstanding job with this story. I completely devoured Ares and Esha’s story and I did not want it to end. If you love dark romances with a tortured damaged hero then I would definitely recommend “Shadow Of War” I cannot wait to continue this series.

I would recommend that you read the prequel “Genesis of Shadow” which is free to download.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

This is my first book by Ruby Wolff, and I definitely will be reading her other books. I love the brotherhood between Ares, Nyx, Tic and Nitro. These four have been through so much, and they have come out stronger for it, even if they are still fighting their demons.

I loved learning about what Ares went through and how it shaped him into the man he is in this book. Ares and Esha have an connection when they lock eyes, however, Esha is closely guarded by her brothers and family and Ares is not interested in love. He just wants a new toy to break. Ares is the first person to stand up to Esha's brothers and not cower away which makes Esha want to continue to see him.

This book is dark and delicious. It is smutty, and the plot is amazing. Somethings I was able to guess would happen, and others were a surprise. I enjoyed every moment and I look forward to reading about the remaining three ghosts, and hopefully Jaya as well.

I don’t know what I was expecting, but this ticked all my boxes I was looking for!
Romance, Dark Thriller, had so much suspense and proved to me once again why I love the Villains in the stories!

It snagged my attention from the beginning and continued to keep it throughout.
Ares is such a possessive Alphahole that you want to smack across the face then hug and squeeze all your love into. Ugh! He made me so mad.
Esha is a strong girl that needs to given a chance to show just how strong she is, and Ares is just the man to help her find her way.

You are introduced to his brothers, who’s stories I am dying for, and all throughout their characters are snagging pieces of your heart.
This feels like the main part of the story will be told throughout each brothers story/book and I am here for them all!!!
I need more!!

I absolutely loved this book!! Shadow of war is dark and not for the faint hearted but I connected so well with the characters. Ares has a big heart but just so afraid to show it which quite rightly so after his and his brothers very heartbreaking past. I would highly recommend this book I was so hooked and literally could not put it down. Expect the unexpected this book will take you to hell and back but is a beautiful story at the same time how is this possible you ask? You have to read and find out for yourself. Book 2 here I come 😍😍

Ares and his brothers are known as the Ghosts. They're known for being cold, unfeeling and take care of business. That is, until Ares meets Esha. She makes him want to change, to want different things. But he still feels like he is no good for her because she is too sweet, too pure for the likes of him. He knows she's been protected and sheltered by her family, but as he gets to know her better, he also learns that she has a rebellious side. As her family situation starts to deteriorate, Ares and his brothers form an additional support system for her and it's interesting to see them show that side of themselves. The relationships are complicated, but they are nuanced and well-written and I cannot wait to read more of this series.

Dark, Twisted, Suspenseful, and Spicy are just a few ways to describe this one!!

Wow, the author wove an intense story with dark themes that pulls you straight into this insanely addictive read. It's dark with heartbreaking moments with the enemies-to-lovers vibes also. (This is book 1 of the series.)

The organization is comprised of Ares and his brothers who are out to take down anyone who played a part in their traumas and heinous crimes. They are considered bad guys but take action for those who have been wronged in their own unique and unhinged ways to right the wrongs of many. This is definitely a dark romance with triggers so read responsibly. Get ready to devour insanely dark & suspenseful read.

Overall: 5/☆☆☆☆☆
Spice: 🌶🌶🌶

"No one ever hears us coming, we move in the darkness like shadows."

This book will have you in a chokehold from the start. It is dark and twisted, and seriously spicy. I love Ares and his brothers; what they stand for and the mission they have set out to complete. He is unapologetically unhinged and dedicated to their cause. I really loved that while Esha may have shown him love, he didn't turn into a softie. His darkness still reigned supreme.

I truly felt for Esha and what she went through. I'm glad she found a family with the Ghosts. I cannot wait to read the next installment.

Holy Freaking Dark Amazing-Work-of-Fiction!

This book is fantastic. Ares is such an interesting character, you'd think with his name the character would be dark, vicious, and uncaring but that's actually not fully true, trust me you'll melt for him.

Esha is so emotionally tuned into the men's feelings that it's not surprising a bond forms.

Be prepared for a book you won't want to put down. Be sure this chores are done before you start because you likely won't be putting this gem down til you get to the end.

My Thoughts: Ares and his four brothers are determined to find and take down everyone in the organization that destroyed them. Esha is the princess of her family and is carefully shadowed by her overly protective family. Esha is determined to have freedom. Esha and Ares are drawn to each other. Ares is the definition of War and loves the color red. He shouldn't want Esha, but he can't control his feelings. This book is a page-turner. It has spice, revenge, betrayal, and trigger warnings. I highly recommend this book for dark romance lovers.

I loved this book from start to finish, Ruby pulled me into this new world of The Ghosts and now I dont want to leave !!!
Ares is just so heartbreakingly damaged but at the same time he's soft and caring it was wonderful to see how having Esha in his life changed him, for the better !
I this book will drag you through every emotion , I laughed , cried, wanted to scream with frustration but by the end of this rollercoaster you find you just want to run back to the start and go again

This is a very dark read and has TW. Before reading keep in mind of triggers. This story is about Ares he is the darkness and has been triggering, violent. Esha is the princess that has no freedom and is guarded all the time and is the light for Ares. Once they encounter each other’s they make a run for it. The chemistry between these two is off the chart. The story is written phenomena and I love this read.. the ghost brothers are amazing.

This was such a hot story about a sheltered girl and a bad boy. If you like couples with an instant connection, this is a must read. Ares is a tattooed vigilante who only uses women for sex until he lays eyes on Esha. Esha becomes caught in the middle between ares, the man she was drawn to at first sight, and her family. Its full of steam, angst, tragedy, and a hea for the couple. It's a definite must read.

I have just added another series to my every growing TBR and I don’t regret it a bit. While I struggled in the begging by a few chapters I was hooked. I’m glad I stuck it out. This book does get a little dark and has triggers so beware of those. But I am looking forward to the next one in the series!

Ares does not have any interest in being in a relationship. Whole out with his brothers he sees “Esha.” He does something rare thinking he would not see her again. But then he does and they both become addicted to each other. This has knife Play and some other dark moments as well as suspense. But it is a good dark and sexy read.

Since it’s a dark romance book it’s no wonder the content is the way it is, nothing negative about it. Just that the grammar and some plot holes didn’t make sense so it kinda made it hard to read. Wanted to read the ending tho so that’s kinda the thing that kept me going. Didn’t think the mc would be so ‘compliant’ and very okay with everything but well well that’s dark romance haha

This is one intense and a very dark book. These characters had a very horrific childhood and now are very loyal and tight-knit and consider themselves brothers. They will do anything and everything for the other. They are going after anyone affiliated with the organization the group that kidnapped them as children. When Ares meets Esha his world is rocked. He is bound and determined to keep her at a distance but that is easier said then done. When they come face to face with the ones they have been hunting will the outcome destroy Esha and Ares relationship or make them stronger. I really enjoyed this book, I did have some cringe moments but I wanted to see the outcome and it was good. I'm excited for the next book to see where this author takes them next.
