Nothing But the Right Thing

Rate this book
Serena McDaniels is successful, sassy, and saved. Life is good. She has a loving husband and a new home. But there's one dream that remains just out of reach. When she left a high-profile advertising agency to pursue her dreams of having a family, Serena never imagined that the stress of her husband's pastorate and their desire to follow God's will might delay their dreams of becoming parents. And when a dear friend makes a life-altering decision to leave an abusive relationship, Serena knows she has to help. Will she have to postpone her dreams forever? Or will she hear God's still, small voice and realize his plan for her? Nothing But the Right Thing is a heartwarming novel that explores the journey of faith, friendship, and the power of prayer.

Tired of the physical abuse she leaves everything behind her fearing for her life. She's been separated from all those she would consider to be her friends except for the one person who stood by her through thick and thin. Knowing that her husband would stop at nothing to learn of her whereabouts she even keeps that information from her sister/friend. Life has had its downs but now it's time to look up.

This book was fantastic! I had the pleasure of meeting Stacy Hawkins Adams, the author of Nothing But The Right Thing, at the 2006 Faith-Based Literary Arts Weekend. She can sure write a story that will stay with me for a long time. Erika has been abused by her husband, Elliott, for the last four years. This is a story about her struggles in dealing with abuse.

Meanwhile, Serena, Ericka’s best friend, along with her husband Micah, are dealing with fertility issues.

The characters work through numerous, realistic struggles.

This story shows how we need to lean on God and trust in Him while dealing with our issues.

This is the first book I’ve ever read by Ms. Adams, but I do plan on reading more in the future.

I enjoyed this book. A better book than the first of the trilogy. I was quite touched by the story of Erika and also the story of Micah and his ministry. I actually wanted to know more of the people involved in Erika's experience and to hear more about Micah's message and mission. Perhaps those are explored in Book 3...we'll see! :)

The only "critique" I would give, is that the ending seems to wrap up too quickly. After a long lead up, it feels as if there was a sprint at the end, the last 12 months of the book's chronology happens in the same or less number of pages as the first 4 months.

"Nothing but the Right Thing" further develops the life stories of Serena, Micah, Erika and Elliot, from Adams' debut novel, "Speak to My Heart." Readers learn the often swept-under-the-table truth that church life can be cruel, vindictive, and faith-draining. More importantly, readers learn the oft forgotten truth that God works through imperfect people and through their spiritual friendships.
Readers of "Nothing but the Right Thing" and "Speak to My Heart," will also enjoy Adams' newest book, released in August 2007, "Watercolored Pearls."

Second book in the Spirit and Soul series.

Serena has a loving husband and a new home but she is missing what she wants most in the world, children.

God answers this request in only a way God can.

We also catch up with Erika and Tawana.

All awesome stories and seeing God work in all their lives should make you realize what an awesome God we serve and how He can turn anything to good if we will just let him.

Now, this author writes very well. Her style and delivery are phenomenal. This book should touch quite a few women who have been battered because she draws you from the very first line on the first page. Stacy Hawkins Adams, just know that I am a fan and will be picking up more of your books for my reading pleasure. Great work!

This book had some wonderful lessons.

I would rate it as 4.5, because within the chapters, the scene changed and I had to reread it just to follow long. It's not a bigger, but I would've like to see line space whenever a scene has changed within the same chapter.

Again great book!

This isn't very good. Everything resolves way too neatly and conveniently in the last two chapters.

I recommended this novel to my bible study group. So many churches are facing the same conflicts the church faces in this novel. It reall hit home for me.

I wasn't a huge fan of this book. The storyline was great, the ending was even better but the writing just didn't grab me and keep me interested.
