This is a wonderful book of poetry with each section grouped and inspired by a tarot card. A handful of the major arcana are covered. Original drawings inspired by the cards are at the start of each section by an additional artist. Cunningham doesn't just reiterate common meanings in her poems but truly uses the symbolism and essence of each card as a jumping off point for her own creative response and creation, bringing both new understanding and depth to that card. One need not know the cards or symbols to enjoy the poetry; it stands on its own and is varied in tone and theme. This has served to inspire me in my own writing and tarot reflections.
