Pride and Prejudice time travel story. A contemporary student switches places with original Elizabeth Darcy. Liz Bennet is a hard working, contemporary girl. Between her studies and work she has little time for romance. Her sister, Jane, convinces her to take a short break and spend a weekend with their friends in a country house. To Liz’s displeasure among the group there is William Darcy, a man she doesn’t hold in high regard. Darcy tries to ask her out, but she rejects him. The very next day, during her morning run, she gets hit by a car. She doesn’t regain her consciousness in a hospital as she expects to, but in the unfamiliar room, in the year 1813. She wakes up as a wife of a wealthy landlord, Master of Pemberley, Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy. Liz realizes that she somehow managed to travel back in time, taking place of William Darcy’s great grandmother. Will she manage to return to her own time?
I didn't particularly like this Elizabeth Bennet in the beginning of the book. Darcy shows interest in her and wants to date and her reply about the matter is similar to her reply about the Hunsford proposal in canon. Of course he does say a few things about how ridiculous some in her family act.
She is a smart young lady who is working her way to gain her degree through a scholarship while waitressing to pay for a dinky apartment, food, clothing, etc. (Bill Collins lives next door.) Jane is already engaged to Bingley and when that couple invites Lizzy to spend a weekend in Derbyshire as a needed R&R from her studies and her job, they don't inform her that where she is staying is Pemberley. When Darcy picks her up at the train station instead of Jane and Bingley, she questions why and then where are they going and does Lord Strathspey (the owner) rent out rooms to tourist. Darcy answers that he owns the estate.
After her lashing out at his request that they date they avoid each other's company and early one morning she goes for a run and is hit by a car. She wakes up 200 years in the past and is told that she injured her head when she fell off a horse which her husband, Fitzwilliam Darcy, had persuaded her to ride.
As weeks go by and she is sleeping (chastely) with him and warding off his amorous advances, she finally works up the nerve to reveal this "time travel" which she thinks has swapped bodies between his Elizabeth and herself. He asks many questions about the future and Lizzy gives him investment advice. She attempts to make herself faint in the hopes that she will wake up in her own time but is unsuccessful. She prays and studies how to be a good housewife in the times in which she seems doomed to live out her life. Eventually she wakes up back in her own time and learns that she and William are now "a couple". At this point, she decides to "go with it" and give him a chance to win her love as her experiences with his ancestor have given her second thoughts about his character...the two men just seem so similar.
I found this book, despite the need for editing, to be charming in how this premise played out. Like an element in the Outlander novels this author creates a way that the Fitzwilliam (and Elizabeth) of the 1800's find(s) a way to communicate through the ages with the woman who visited from the future and proved to be a dear friend. I even had tears as I read how that voice from the past let Liz know of his regard.
In 2010 while visiting Pemberley with Jane and Bingley, Elizabeth Bennet is involved in an accident which sends her back to 1813. Though I did finish the book I am not sure that I actually like either of the Darcys, or modern Elizabeth. I think I might have been more interested in reading about 1813 Elizabeth and her reaction to living in a modern time. So probably more of a 2.5 star rating
I’ve read all the books by this author and this is by far the best. I have been more often than not left disappointed to a certain degree by her stories, because sadly I’ve seen in most of them a tendency to leave many aspects of the plot unresolved, this is most definitely not the case with this novel. Everything was beautifully connected in the course of the book. I was initially unconvinced with the premise of the story, but I was pleasantly surprised by it. The novel could have used a few more pages at the end and more editing, but I can say it’s a book that I will be re-reading.
I have read many stories from Ola Wagner but this one is so good that I have read it many times over. I love the take on “time travel” which with P&P variations it’s difficult to accomplish in my honest opinion. I have read L L Diamond version of P&P time travel and it was very interesting and humorous. However, this story is full of surprises. Trust me you will love this book as much as I.
Mixture of regency and modern day times. Elizabeth Bennet (modern times) time travels to switch with Elizabeth Darcy. Humour in how Elizabeth had to learn to live in a time prior. She helps That Fitzwilliam Darcy for his future generations. Elizabeth Darcy helps to secure Will Darcy. When they return to normal life they realize how different they are.

I generally do not like modern P & P variations but I loved this one. Also, it is my favorite time travel story in this genre. I would highly recommend this one.
Modern Day Elizabeth Bennet goes back in time to meet the real Darcy - as her modern life reflects the P&P story. The modern Lizzie is stupid and ridiculous. She is lucky to be receiving attention from this man and then gets hit by a car, goes back in time, and messes up Fitzwilliam's and Lizzie's marriage. I hate it when characters are not true to the original and this modern day Lizzie just isn't even believable.
