Bernie Siegel is an American writer and retired pediatric surgeon, who writes on the relationship between the patient and the healing process. He is known for his best-selling book Love, Medicine and Miracles.
The Beginner’s Guide to Humor and Healing: A Physician’s Prescription for the Healing Power of Laughter and Love by Bernie S. Siegel is best enjoyed in audiobook format. The reader is the author and he delivers his message well, which is basically that illness is not only physical. The power of the mind over the body is essential and laughter is often the best medicine. Bernie Siegel could have a second career as a stand-up comedian and every word is measured to emphasize the importance of being positive in the face of illness. The author, who founded Exceptional Cancer Patients, practices what he preaches and audiences have enjoyed and benefited from his experience. Highly recommended.
This wasn't a book exactly, more like a talk the author recorded live. I had my doubts but once the audiobook began I realised the format fit his words perfectly.
I was surprised by how amazing this book/talk was. I picked it simply because it was available and had expected something generic but there was great advice in here that made me think a lot. Maybe it was because I was listening to the author talk instead of a narrator but the humor was on point. I loved this book's message and I honestly think it deserves a second listening.
This Doctor is very funny. Wish there were more like him. Great insights and excellent sense of humor. It’s a talk and not really a book. Worth it for a quick read, maybe two.
